Everything was excellent. I highly recommend this car (excellent gas mileage for a gas car and in excellent condition) and host (made everything easy for as a first time Turo user. Location at SFO much easier and cheaper than the car rental center.)
Location in the SFO international short term parking is a winner. No train to the rental cars, just walk out of customs and collect your car.
I had a great experience renting a car from Turo Rental Car in San Francisco. The price was very reasonable, and the owners were extremely attentive and professional. Whenever I had a question, they responded almost immediately, which made the entire process smooth and stress-free. That level of customer service is hard to find these days. The car ran well throughout my trip. It was an older vehicle, but for the price, it did exactly what I needed it to do and was reliable the entire time. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for an affordable and hassle-free rental experience in San Francisco. I will definitely use their service again the next time I visit!

Tim’s Honda Civic Type R was an amazing car to rent. Pickup was easy, car was clean
He is one of the most responsive and helpful host I have ever got a car rental from he checked on me several times to make sure everything is looking good and also he offered help when it is needed. Definitely will use his car next time comes to San Francisco. The car is immaculate very economical on gas and clean.

Great rental experience! The car was clean, exactly as described, and drove great throughout our trip. The host was friendly, responsive, and answered all of our questions quickly. Pickup and drop off were easy, and the whole process was smooth from start to finish. We’d definitely rent from them again. Highly recommend!

Car was clean and ran great. I drove approximately 200 miles and charging cost $25. Not bad considering CA gas prices. Owner was very responsive to questions.
Nice car with excellent fuel efficiency. Great option to navigate around the Bay Area with skyrocketed California gas prices. Hosts are great people, offered me tips for picking to save massive airport fees.

Ellen is friendly and helpful, the price is very convenient, the pickup address is conveniently close to public transportation. I recommend her car for those travelling to San Francisco

This was seriously one of the most seamless experiences I have had with any rental cars. The car was perfect for driving in and around San Francicso. Highly reccommend!! Rent this car :).
To control volume on media gently pull on knob a little and rotate slowely. Car has its quirks and personalities, but got us from a to b reliably with a great price.
We had a great experience renting Russ’s 2024 Mustang. The car was clean, well-maintained, and an absolute blast to drive throughout our trip. We did run into a small issue with a flat tire, but Russ was quick to respond to our messages and help coordinate a solution. AAA arrived promptly and got us back on the road with minimal disruption. Overall, the car was fantastic, communication was excellent, and we wouldn’t hesitate to rent from Russ again. Highly recommended!
Gary is great to work with, super reasonable, and very attentive. The car was fantastic and it made my trip much better than a regular rental car!
I had a great experience renting this Tesla. The full self-driving feature was really cool and made the trip even more enjoyable, but what really stood out was the host. He was extremely accommodating, helpful, and easy to work with. He checked in with me a few times during the trip to make sure everything was going well and to see if I had any questions about charging or using the car. I ended up returning the vehicle with less battery than I received it with, and he was very understanding about it. Overall, the car was excellent, the experience was smooth, and the host went above and beyond. I would definitely rent from him again and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a great Turo experience.

San Mateo offers several scenic driving routes that showcase California's natural beauty. The Pacific Coast Highway, accessible from San Mateo, provides breathtaking ocean views and coastal landscapes. Heading east, you can explore the rolling hills and vineyards of Napa Valley. For a serene forest experience, drive through the redwoods in nearby Santa Cruz Mountains. These routes offer diverse landscapes, from rugged coastlines to lush forests, perfect for enjoying in your rental car. Remember to check local weather conditions before embarking on your journey, as fog can sometimes affect visibility along coastal routes.
Preparing for San Mateo's weather conditions is crucial for a safe and enjoyable driving experience. In summer, the area experiences mild temperatures, ideal for convertible or luxury car rentals. Winter brings occasional rain, so consider renting an SUV or vehicle with good traction. Fog can occur year-round, especially near the coast, so familiarize yourself with fog light usage. Always check the weather forecast before your trip and adjust your driving accordingly. Pack layers of clothing for temperature changes, and keep sunglasses handy for bright California sun. Being prepared for various weather scenarios ensures a comfortable journey in your San Mateo rental car.
While San Mateo itself doesn't have specific environmental zones, it's part of the Bay Area, which has implemented various eco-friendly initiatives. Be aware of California's strict emissions standards when choosing your rental car. Many parking areas in San Mateo and surrounding cities offer preferential spots for electric and hybrid vehicles, making these options worth considering. Some nearby natural areas may have vehicle restrictions to protect sensitive ecosystems, so research your planned routes. Always follow posted signs regarding idling restrictions or sensitive habitat areas. By being mindful of these environmental considerations, you can enjoy San Mateo's beautiful surroundings responsibly in your chosen rental car.
Navigating San Mateo safely requires attention to local traffic patterns and road rules. Familiarize yourself with the grid system of San Mateo's streets for easier orientation. Be cautious of pedestrians and cyclists, especially in downtown areas and near schools. When driving on highways around San Mateo, stay alert for sudden slowdowns due to traffic. Use navigation apps to avoid congestion, particularly during rush hours. Pay attention to parking regulations, as they can vary by area. If renting an SUV or larger vehicle, be mindful of narrow streets in some residential areas. Always obey speed limits and traffic signs, and remember that right turns on red are generally allowed unless otherwise posted.
San Mateo and its surrounding areas offer numerous reliable gas stations to keep your rental car fueled. Major chains and local stations are conveniently located along main thoroughfares and near highway exits. El Camino Real, a major artery running through San Mateo, features several gas stations. The ideal rental car for exploring San Mateo and the Bay Area depends on your specific plans. For city driving and easy parking, a compact or midsize car is practical and fuel-efficient. If you're planning to venture into the nearby hills or beaches, an SUV offers versatility and comfort. Luxury cars are perfect for those seeking a premium experience while cruising along scenic routes. Electric vehicles are increasingly popular in the eco-conscious Bay Area, with charging stations widely available. For larger groups or families, minivans provide ample space and comfort. Consider your itinerary, the number of passengers, and luggage requirements when selecting your San Mateo rental car to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable exploration of the area.
When planning for tolls around San Mateo, it's important to be prepared. Many Bay Area bridges, including those you might use to reach San Francisco or Oakland from San Mateo, have tolls. Most tolls are now collected electronically, so consider renting a car equipped with a toll transponder for convenience. If your rental doesn't include this, you can usually pay tolls online after your trip. Keep track of which toll roads or bridges you use. Some highways, like Interstate 680, have express lanes that require tolls during peak hours. Before your trip, research the routes you plan to take and budget accordingly for potential toll expenses. This preparation ensures a smooth journey in your San Mateo rental car without unexpected costs.
Driving in San Mateo's city streets differs significantly from nearby rural areas. In the city, expect more traffic, especially during rush hours, and be prepared for frequent stops at intersections. City driving requires vigilance for pedestrians, cyclists, and sudden lane changes. Parking can be more challenging, so consider a compact car for easier maneuvering. In contrast, rural areas around San Mateo offer more open roads and scenic views. However, these routes may have fewer streetlights and require extra caution at night. Rural drives might involve winding roads, especially in hilly areas, so an SUV could provide more stability.
