If you’re picking up a car at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), the airport charges a fee for vehicle deliveries, which Turo collects and sends directly to LAX without marking it up or keeping any part of it. Your host might also require you to cover parking fees for entering or exiting the airport, but they’re required to disclose this in their listing. Since these fees aren’t included in your Turo rental, it’s a good idea to confirm any additional costs with your host before booking.

Los Angeles International Airport is about 18 miles from Downtown Los Angeles, which translates to a drive that could take anywhere between 30 minutes to over an hour, depending on traffic. From LAX airport, you can easily access popular spots like the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Universal Studios, or Santa Monica, making your rental car essential for enjoying the best of LA.
Driving in Los Angeles requires attention to local laws. Always drive on the right side of the road, and keep in mind speed limits, typically 25-35 miles per hour (mph) in city areas and up to 65 mph on freeways. Rush hour traffic can be heavy, particularly on major highways like I-10 and I-405, so be sure to plan your travel times accordingly.
Only authorized drivers listed on your Turo reservation can operate the rental vehicle. Ensure all drivers have valid licenses and are approved on your booking.
Parking in Los Angeles varies by neighborhood. You’ll find metered street parking and parking garages in most areas, with options like the Hollywood & Highland Center parking garage offering convenient access to the city’s attractions.
For cultural excursions, parking is available at the Getty Center and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Be cautious of restricted zones, especially in busy areas like Santa Monica or Venice Beach. Most parking garages and street parking accept major credit cards and debit cards.
Los Angeles has toll roads, especially around the 110 and 91 Freeways, to help bypass traffic. While most of LA’s city limits don't have tolls, you may encounter them on express lanes and bridges.
To pay, you’ll need a FasTrak transponder, but some toll roads accept debit cards too. Make sure you're prepared with the proper toll payment method before entering express lanes or toll routes.
Gas stations are abundant in Los Angeles, especially along major streets like Sunset Blvd and Wilshire Blvd.
For electric vehicle drivers, LA offers numerous charging stations, including at LAX airport, Downtown, and popular spots like the Grove or Santa Monica. Many public garages and shopping centers also provide convenient charging options for EVs.
Renting a car is a must for anyone visiting LA. While LA has public transportation options, including buses and the Metro, it’s much more practical to have your own transportation for the ultimate flexibility. LA’s sprawling layout and lack of reliable coverage in certain areas make public transit inconvenient for getting to popular spots like the Getty Center, Griffith Park, or Santa Monica Pier. Having a rental car ensures you can see everything at your own pace.
