Ford Transit 2015

I could not have found a cooler vehicle to rent for our family vacation. The NASA alien van was a big hit everywhere we went. The kids loved it. The family loved it. Random people loved it. The pickup process was extremely easy and convenient. Uber from the airport a few minutes away to the secure parking lot to pickup the van. Drive the van back to pickup my family and luggage. The drop off process was the same in reverse. I cannot recommend this van rental enough (or any of their other themed vehicles). They all looked fun! Thank you for a smooth transaction and making our trip so memorable! Everyone will remember this trip with the alien van!

Top tips for renting a van in Orlando

Orlando is the kind of city where everyone seems to arrive with an entourage, half a suitcase, and grand plans for Florida’s theme parks. Renting a van here makes sense, but there are quirks to watch out for. From busy highways to parking garages with height limits, these tips will help keep your trip convenient, comfortable, and stress-free.

Tips for driving a van in Orlando

Driving a van in Orlando isn’t tricky, but it does take a little adjustment. Larger vehicles like a Ford Transit or passenger van need wider turns, longer stopping distances, and careful attention to low-clearance underpasses. Plan ahead when merging into heavy traffic near the parks, and give yourself extra time — Orlando traffic has a personality all its own.

What is parking a van like in Orlando?

Parking a van in Orlando can feel like its own adventure. Theme parks usually have designated spots for oversized vehicles, though additional fees may apply. In downtown Orlando, look for open-air lots that don’t have strict height restrictions — squeezing a sprinter van into a compact garage is a headache you don’t need on vacation.

How to choose the right type of van for your Orlando trip

The best van for your trip depends on your group and your plans. Minivan rentals are perfect for a small family heading to Disney, while passenger vans keep larger groups together without juggling multiple cars. Cargo vans are the smart choice for moving day or hauling bigger purchases, giving you space without paying for seats you don’t need.

Loading a cargo van

Loading a cargo van is an art worth mastering. Place the heaviest items on the bottom, secure everything with straps or blankets, and keep fragile items protected. Always leave easy access to the things you’ll need during the drive (snacks, luggage, or theme park gear) and double-check the maximum load before you set off.

Gas stations and EV chargers in Orlando

Fueling up is simple in Orlando, with plenty of gas stations near International Drive, the airport, and along major highways. Just remember that many vans, including sprinter vans and larger passenger vans, run on diesel — so don’t grab the wrong nozzle in a hurry. EV chargers are available downtown and near popular parks, but electric vans are still less common than gas or diesel options.

On each trip, you’re covered with third-party automobile liability insurance provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company.*

We encourage you to request to add additional drivers before your trip starts, though guests can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress.

To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. You can request to add drivers via the “Trips” tab in the Turo app without additional driver charges or extra costs.

Orlando offers a wide variety of rental vans to fit every kind of trip. Need space for the whole family and their theme park gear? Passenger van rentals and 12-seater options keep everyone comfortable without sacrificing luggage room. For smaller groups, a minivan rental is a smart choice, balancing affordability with plenty of seats and modern safety features.

If your plans involve moving day or transporting oversized purchases, cargo vans like a Chevrolet Express give you the muscle to haul it all. And for those looking for something a little roomier, a Ford Transit or Sprinter is ideal for group travel across Florida or a road trip to nearby cities like Atlanta.

* Any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host’s vehicle would kick in before your protection plan, except in limited situations for trips booked in Maryland, but this protects your own wallet. In the US, liability insurance is provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company. Terms, conditions, and exclusions apply. The policy does not provide coverage for damage to a host’s vehicle.

For questions or information about the third party liability insurance that is included in protection plans, consumers in Maryland and the licensed states listed here may contact Turo Insurance Agency at (415) 508-0283 or claims@turo.agency.
