I can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed running this vehicle. We had one slight problem, which was no fault of the car owner. The airport where I picked the car up exit kiosk was not operating which caused a delay.. the owner of the car was gracious enough to allow me to keep the car for an additional two hours because of my inconvenience at the airport picking it up. The car it’s fun to drive and is exactly as pictured.. This is my first time using Turo, and I would not hesitate to rent from this owner again in the future.

Fun car! Got some compliments. Would rent again. This is key west so don't expect a new car feel. Elements are hard on everything. Thanks!

Would definitely rent again. He was very friendly and easy to work with!!

Great car! It took us a second to figure out how to get the top back in place, so it’s worth asking the owner to show you that before you pull away.

Pickup near or at Airports
Renting a car in Key West is the best way to keep your itinerary flexible, your luggage close, and your pace all your own. These handy tips will help you make the most of your rental car experience — from planning the perfect pickup to knowing how the streets run and where to stop for gas.
Driving in Key West tends to be relaxed, though it helps to keep a sharp eye on signage and pedestrians, especially in Old Town and along Duval Street, where foot traffic is high and speed limits hover between 20 to 30 mph. US-1 is the main artery running across the island, connecting the east and west coasts—and at times, it can bottleneck near Roosevelt Blvd, especially around sunset when visitors head west for those Mallory Square views.
Peak travel periods tend to fall between 8:00–10:00 AM and 3:00–6:00 PM on weekdays, particularly along North Roosevelt Blvd and Flagler Avenue. Cyclists and scooters are common, so it’s wise to drive cautiously and always pass on the right side where possible. While tropical sunshine is the norm, summer storms can roll in fast — slowing visibility and turning streets slick in minutes. Keep your headlights on during any rainfall, and stay clear of low-lying areas known to flood.
Parking in Key West can be a little tricky, especially near the waterfront and downtown core. Metered street parking is available throughout Old Town, but for easier access and peace of mind, head to the parking garage located at Key West Airport or the Old Town Garage near Simonton Street. These options are a short walk from most attractions and offer easier access for larger vehicles.
For beach days, you’ll find public lots near Smathers Beach and Higgs Beach, though they can fill up quickly on sunny weekends. Always check for residential signage before settling into a spot — towing is enforced regularly in marked zones.
There are no toll roads on the island of Key West itself. The nearest tolls are found further north on the Florida mainland, such as the Homestead Extension of Florida’s Turnpike.
You’ll find gas stations located along Truman Avenue, North Roosevelt Blvd, and at the entrance to Key West International Airport. Brands like Chevron, Shell, and Circle K are scattered across the city. EV drivers can recharge at stations located near the Keys Energy Building and at The Perry Hotel Marina. While not abundant, these charging stations make it feasible to rent an electric vehicle for shorter stays on the island.
If you want to see more than just your hotel lobby and the nearest beach, a car rental unlocks everything that Key West has to offer –– on your own terms. From early morning snorkelling at Fort Zachary Taylor to sunset strolls at Mallory Square, having a rental car lets you explore without the wait. With Turo, you can pick up at Key West International Airport and get behind the wheel in no time.
