This was my first real trip with Turo and I have to be honest. I was a little reluctant. But this process was seamless. The transit vehicle I use work perfectly and ran smooth. The host was very, very accommodating as I’m sure I was probably annoying because I had so many questions as a new users but he was patient.. Thank you! Make

Top tips for renting a van in San Antonio

San Antonio is a city where history, food, and fun collide — and renting a van makes it easier to take it all in without leaving half your group (or half your luggage) behind. A few practical tips will help you navigate Alamo City with confidence, whether you’re in a minivan rental or a full-sized passenger van.

Tips for driving a van in San Antonio

Driving a van in San Antonio isn’t difficult, but it does call for a little extra attention. Larger vehicles like a Ford Transit or cargo van need more space when turning and stopping, so give yourself plenty of room. Keep an eye out for low-clearance garages near downtown, and be mindful of traffic around busy attractions like the River Walk.

What is parking a van like in San Antonio?

Parking in San Antonio can be a mixed bag. Downtown garages are plentiful but may have height restrictions that don’t suit taller vans. For passenger van rentals, open lots or surface parking near the River Walk and Alamo often work better than squeezing into tight garage spots.

How to choose the right type of van for your San Antonio trip

Think about your trip before making a reservation. Passenger vans are ideal for group outings to SeaWorld or Six Flags Fiesta Texas, while minivans strike the perfect balance for family vacations with kids. Cargo vans and moving trucks are best for moving day jobs or hauling bulky purchases without sacrificing cargo space.

Loading a cargo van

Cargo vans are built for heavy lifting, but loading them smartly makes all the difference. Place heavy items on the bottom, use straps to keep things in place, and stack lighter belongings on top. Always leave room near the doors for things you’ll need mid-trip, like snacks, maps, or camping gear.

Gas stations and EV chargers in San Antonio

Fuel stops are easy to find along major roads, highways, and near SAT airport. Many larger vans run on diesel, so double-check the pump before you fill up. EV chargers are becoming more common in downtown San Antonio and surrounding towns, though electric vans are still less common than traditional rentals.

On each trip, you’re covered with third-party automobile liability insurance provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company.*

Yes, multiple guests can drive the car you rent on Turo, as long as they are all approved to drive. The primary driver (whoever rented the car) can add additional drivers with no fees or additional charges. Only the primary driver can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do it for you. We encourage you to request to add additional drivers before your trip starts, though guests can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress.

To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. You can request to add drivers via the “Trips” tab in the Turo app without additional driver charges or extra costs.

The policy does not provide coverage for damage to a host’s vehicle.
