First off I would love to thank our host William (Jose). He was very communicative a week prior and gave us a run down on how well maintained the vehicle wa, as well answered all my questions. He advise me how the unit was taken care of with new tires and a recent oil change prior to the trip. The vehicle was in great condition and got us to our destination safely and gas efficient. Through out the journey he was very responsive and helpful with any information I needed. I can say if I need another unit from his fleet I would no doubt go for his rentals. Also he is willing to help with pick up or anything else just ask prior and trust me you won't regret renting. If your using locally he will give you a welcome to El Paso run down and places to try that a local would. Thank you again!!

Top tips for renting a car in El Paso

Getting around El Paso is easier when you know the ins and outs. From navigating the twisting roads of Scenic Drive to finding convenient parking, these tips will help you explore the city with confidence and ease.

What are the road rules and driving conditions in El Paso?

Driving in El Paso follows Texas state laws, which means drivers must obey standard traffic regulations — always buckle up, stay off your phone, and yield properly at intersections. In most neighborhoods, speed limits are 25–30 mph. Main roads usually range from 45–55 mph, and highways like I-10 go up to 70–75 mph. And a reminder to watch for school zones and construction areas where you'll need to slow your speed.

Heads up: El Paso’s busiest roads include I-10, US-54, and the Spaghetti Bowl interchange downtown. These spots can get backed up quickly during morning and evening rush hours, so give yourself extra time or plan a different route if possible.

El Paso’s sunny weather usually makes for smooth driving, but it can change quickly. In summer, heavy storms can cause flash floods — especially on streets that sit lower than surrounding areas, like underpasses or dips in the road. Dust storms can roll in fast and cut visibility on open highways. And while rare, icy spots can form in winter, especially on bridges and overpasses. When the weather looks rough, it’s always smart to check local road conditions before heading out.

What is parking like in El Paso?

You shouldn’t face a problem finding parking in El Paso. Most public parking in El Paso is concentrated in the downtown area, near popular spots like the El Paso Convention Center, Union Plaza, San Jacinto Plaza, or the Museum of Art. You'll find metered street parking Mon-Sat, which is also free overnight and on Sundays.

Also, several public parking garages are available, such as the Mills Parking Garage and the Convention Center Garage, all within walking distance of restaurants, shops, and cultural attractions. Otherwise, outside of downtown in the Cincinnati Uptown District, more metered parking can also be found.

Are there toll roads in El Paso?

No, there are no toll roads in El Paso.

Are there gas stations and EV chargers in El Paso?

Gas stations in El Paso are conveniently located throughout the city, with clusters of gas stations along major roads for anyone heading in and out of the city. This includes Zaragoza Road (East Side), Gateway Boulevard (North Side), Desert Boulevard (West Side), and Mesa Street (Central).

Along the same key roads and commercial zones, you can also find EV chargers strategically located. These roads and commercial zones offer the most accessible EV charging points. For your convenience, this is especially true around shopping centers, transit stations, and major travel routes.

Do I need to rent a car in El Paso?

Exploring is best done at your own pace — and nothing beats the freedom a rental car provides. From the surreal beauty of White Sands to the rugged peaks of the Franklin Mountains, these iconic spots are waiting to be discovered. Without a car rental in El Paso, you’d be missing out on some of the city’s greatest treasures. Also, on Turo, you have a hassle-free way to rent a vehicle from a local host with flexible pick-up locations — whether right by the airport terminal or wherever’s most convenient for you. Simplify your trip, seize the adventure, and make every moment count.

On each trip, you’re covered with third-party automobile liability insurance provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company.*

The primary driver (whoever rented the car) can add additional drivers with no fees or additional charges. Only the primary driver can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do it for you.
