Best experience I’ve had with the TURO car rental process. Communication was 5 star. Paul is a true professional. I had no problems with the car throughout the week. I was confident that if anything went wrong, he would be available with a list of trouble shooting instructions. Great price, great car, great communication.

I like that it recommends all the different angles when it gets dropped off and when you turn it in, that way the renters doesn't get dinged for scratches or whatever. Kinda pricey, but beats NOT requiring a $500 deposit! (I'm looking at you, Enterprise...) Car was in good condition, no noticeable defects or issues. This was my first time using Turo, and Angela was good help. Will definitely use Turo again, car rental companies can get bent.

Excellent host. Car was in exactly as described condition (his cars are higher mileage, so if you want “like new” condition pay more somewhere else — he is very upfront about this). I encountered a small problem during my trip, hard rains washed a lot of debris on the roads and I ended up with multiple flat tires, which he quickly addressed and had me back on the road with new tires in less than 2.5 hours from time of reporting to leaving the tire shop, which quite frankly was amazing considering tire shops were quoting 4 hours wait time for them to even look at the tires (lots of people had flats after the storm). I think the best thing I could say to praise his service is as follows: After renting a car from him for four weeks, I immediately reserved another of his rentals. Highly recommend and will be referring him to friends and family who are looking to rent a car.

Johnny was extremely friendly, professional, and accommodating. He went above and beyond to help us with our late arrival at nearly 2:00 a.m. He also offered to pick up the Prius at the San Antonio airport because we had a very early flight back to California. The car was reliable and perfect for our trip. Johnny provided outstanding service, and I would gladly rent from him again. Highly recommended!

This was my first time visiting San Antonio as I am here for my brothers BMT graduation. Also my my first time using Turo, and everything went smoothly. Top tips for renting a car in San Antonio

San Antonio's wide roads and open layout make it a great city to explore on wheels. Keep an eye out for one-way streets in downtown and changing speed limits from downtown to the more scenic routes. Here are some helpful San Antonio travel FAQs to keep in mind while visiting.

What are the road rules and driving conditions in San Antonio?

San Antonio follows standard Texas road rules. Speed limits can change often, especially on highways like I-10 or I-35, so keep an eye on the signs. Freeways and frontage roads can get busy at rush hour, but they're well-marked and easy to follow once you find your rhythm.

What is parking like in San Antonio?

Downtown offers metered street parking and plenty of garages near the River Walk, the Alamo, and the Convention Center. Neighborhoods like Pearl and Alamo Heights have a mix of car lots and street parking, but make sure to check each area's posted hours and limits, as they can vary across the neighborhoods. For game days or events, it's worth planning a garage in advance to avoid circling the block.

Are there toll roads in San Antonio?

Most roads in San Antonio, TX are toll-free. If you're heading toward Austin or beyond, toll roads in the Austin area use electronic billing, so look up the rates ahead of time if you're planning to head that direction.

Are there gas stations and EV chargers in San Antonio?

Gas stations are easy to find across the city. EV drivers will find level 2 and DC fast chargers at several San Antonio locations, such as shopping centers, downtown garages, and along major highways. Use PlugShare or ChargePoint to map charging near the Pearl, the Rim/La Cantera area, and the airport.

Do I need to rent a car in San Antonio?

You can explore downtown San Antonio on foot or by rideshare, but if your plans include day trips or you like to have more freedom to explore beyond the tourist destinations, a rental car can make all the difference.

What kind of license do I need to rent a car on Turo?

Turo accepts valid licenses (not expired, suspended, or revoked) that allow for full driving privileges; this includes driver’s licenses issued outside of the US. How does car rental insurance work on Turo?

No, you don’t need personal insurance coverage to rent a car on Turo.

In the US, any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host’s vehicle would kick in before your Turo protection plan. When booking a car in the US, you’ll choose between three protection plans — Premier (eligibility requirements apply), Standard, or Minimum — to get the level of protection that’s right for you. On each trip, you’re covered with third-party automobile liability insurance provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company.*

In New York state, you’ll also choose between Premier (if available), Standard, or Minimum. With each plan, you’re covered with liability insurance of $1,250,000.* Protection plans for New York trips also include access to roadside assistance, priority phone support, and 24/7 customer assistance.

Yes, multiple guests can drive the car you rent on Turo, as long as they are all approved to drive. The primary driver (whoever rented the car) can add additional drivers with no fees or additional charges. Only the primary driver can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do it for you. We encourage you to request to add additional drivers before your trip starts, though guests can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress.

To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. You can request to add drivers via the “Trips” tab in the Turo app without additional driver charges or extra costs.

The policy does not provide coverage for damage to a host’s vehicle.

For questions or information about the third party liability insurance that is included in protection plans, consumers in Maryland and the licensed states listed here may contact Turo Insurance Agency at (415) 508-0283 or claims@turo.agency.
