Hilo, located on Hawaii's Big Island, is a tropical paradise known for its lush rainforests, stunning waterfalls, and black sand beaches. This charming town offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and laid-back Hawaiian culture. Renting a convertible in Hilo allows you to fully immerse yourself in the island's breathtaking scenery, feeling the warm breeze as you cruise along coastal roads and through verdant landscapes. It's the ideal way to explore the Big Island's diverse attractions, from volcanic wonders to picturesque beaches.

Everything went perfectly. They made it very very convenient and easy for us to pick up and return the vehicle. Definitely would rent from them again.

Fantastic Jeep for Big Island. Dustin was also super helpful when our departing flight was delayed and we needed to extend our rental. Highly recommend.
Awesome vehicle to rent. Easy Pickup and Drop Off. Very Reliable.
Pick up and drop off was super easy! I received very clear instructions. Car was in great condition. Host was super awesome, giving us all kinds of recommendations for our trip. Will go with them everytime we come to Hilo!
Julie’s car was in pristine condition when I picked it up. The car drove well with no issues at all. I would rent from her again next time I visit the island.
Great host, clean car, flexible on supporting my check in during hurricane and weather uncertainty. Would rent from again!
Wow!! We cannot say enough good things about Keri and Dustin!! What could have been a difficult trip turned into an amazing experience. This was our first Turo booking. We had two vehicles reserved from Dustin and Keri via Turo for our trip of 10 people. One of the vehicles was in an accident prior but expected to be repaired before our arrival. We were notified 4-5 days before our arrival that the car would not be repaired in time and the Turo reservation was cancelled. We were a bit frantic as all car rentals (except 2) were sold out due to the anticipated eruption of Kīlauea. The 2 we could find were thousands more and did not fit our crew. We were on the phone with Turo multiple times and after hours and days of back and forth, did not get any resolution. As a last ditch effort, we messaged Dustin and Keri to see if they had any potential extra vehicles that may be available for even a shortened duration. What happened next blew our minds. Keri texted and called and made mountains move to help us! She and Dustin coordinated pickup at the airport, hauled our ridiculous amount of luggage to our hotel and became our unofficial tour guide. They delivered multiple vehicles to us as the had available and even helped us bring everything back to the airport when we departed. It was a WOW experience!! The jeep was in excellent condition, had Apple car play, and we thoroughly enjoyed driving it around! They went so far above and beyond and we left Big Island with some wonderful new friends. Needless to say, anytime you rent from Dustin and Keri, you are in excellent hands!!
Dustin’s jeep was PERFECT! The vehicle was well kept in terms of cleanliness and maintenance. Hilo is definitely the wet island. I had no concerns when I saw the BIG daddy tires!!! Gripping the wet road on Volcano Road was no problem. Thank you Dustin’s Jeep for this lasting experience. I will definitely look into your fleet next time in Hawaii.

Excellent service. The whole process was very quick and easy. Great nice and clean vehicle.

Very kind people, i appreciate working with you. If we ever come back we will book this again!

Jeep was clean, comfortable, and drives super smooth. 10/10 would recommend and book again!

The jeep was a perfect big island cruiser. No issues at all with pick up and drop offs

Awesome car, perfect commuter for the big island. Owners are the best, will definitely rent again!
Elf’s jeep is made our trip memorable! 😊 The extra big tires made navigating rough terrain easy. Even though there was an occasional dash light that came on, I would definitely rent it again if I visit the island again!

I had an excellent experience renting this vehicle. Everything was perfect from start to finish: the car was very clean, in great condition, and exactly as described. Communication was fast, friendly, and clear the entire time, which made the whole process easy and comfortable. I would definitely rent from this host again. Thank you so much for everything!
Great car, worked well for us and fun for exploring the big island. Had a 4 day rental and did not experience any issues mechanical or otherwise. The car is small as noted in the images/description, but we were only traveling with two carryons and one of those was a large backpack so it was fine. If you had two hard shells or a checked bag you might want to be careful, but the airport is only 10 minutes from town if you just squeeze anything else on the passenger seat.

Car was amazing for the price. Lots of available power and ride was smooth.

Time your drive to reach the Visitor Information Station just before sunset for a spectacular view above the clouds. Pack warm clothes for the higher altitudes, and consider joining a stargazing program at the summit for a magical end to your evening.
When renting a convertible in Hilo, book early to secure your preferred model, especially during peak tourist seasons. Check the weather forecast, as occasional rain showers are common in Hilo. Choose a vehicle with both style and practicality — a compact convertible is ideal for navigating Hilo's streets, while a larger model might be better for longer drives. Be prepared for varied driving conditions, from smooth highways to narrow mountain roads. Always have sunscreen and a light jacket on hand to adapt to changing weather conditions throughout your drive.
Hilo offers several convenient pickup locations for convertible rentals. Many hosts on Turo provide delivery options to popular spots like downtown Hilo or the Hilo International Airport. Once you've secured your rental convertible, embark on scenic drives that showcase Hawaii's beauty. The Hamakua Coast drive north of Hilo offers breathtaking ocean views and lush valleys. For a tropical adventure, head to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, where you can cruise through rainforests and witness volcanic landscapes. The Puna Coast drive south of Hilo reveals black sand beaches and coastal cliffs. Remember to follow all traffic laws and respect the natural environment while enjoying your convertible rental. Booking a convertible on Turo allows you to experience Hilo's diverse landscapes in style, with the freedom to explore at your own pace.
Hilo offers stunning scenic routes perfect for convertible enthusiasts. The Hamakua Coast drive north of Hilo presents breathtaking ocean views and lush landscapes. Cruise along the winding road with the top down, feeling the warm Hawaiian breeze. Another picturesque journey is the route to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, where you can experience diverse ecosystems and volcanic terrain. For a more tropical adventure, take your rental convertible through the Puna district, exploring hidden beaches and lava-formed coastlines. Remember to pack sunscreen and a light jacket, as weather can change quickly in Hawaii's diverse microclimates.
Navigating Hilo's urban environment in a convertible requires extra caution. Be mindful of the car's lower profile when approaching speed bumps or entering parking lots with steep inclines. Take turns slowly to maintain control, especially on Hilo's occasionally wet roads. When parking, choose well-lit areas and, if possible, park facing outward for better visibility when leaving. Stay alert for pedestrians and cyclists, as they may be less visible from a convertible. In downtown Hilo, watch for overhanging trees or signs that could potentially scrape the top when raised. By staying aware and driving defensively, you can safely enjoy your convertible rental experience in Hilo's charming urban setting.
Hilo's tropical climate requires some forethought when renting a convertible. Be prepared for sudden rain showers, which are common in this lush part of Hawaii. Keep the top up when parked to avoid unexpected interior soaking. Sunny days can be intense, so apply sunscreen generously and wear protective clothing. The convertible's open top allows for excellent ventilation, perfect for Hilo's humid weather. However, at higher elevations like Mauna Kea, temperatures can drop significantly, so pack a warm layer. Always check the weather forecast before setting out, and be ready to adjust your plans or put the top up quickly if needed. Embracing Hilo's dynamic weather is part of the convertible rental adventure!
When packing for your Hilo adventure in a convertible rental, think compact and versatile. Opt for soft-sided luggage or duffel bags that can be easily squeezed into the trunk. Pack lightweight, quick-drying clothes that can be layered for Hilo's variable weather. Consider using packing cubes to organize and compress your belongings. Don't forget essentials like sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses for open-top driving. If you plan on beach visits, bring compact towels and collapsible beach gear. For any souvenirs, leave some space or pack a foldable tote. Remember, in a convertible, less is more — focus on experiences rather than excessive luggage. With smart packing, you'll have everything you need for an unforgettable Hilo trip in your stylish rental convertible.
Protecting yourself from sun exposure is crucial when enjoying convertible drives around Hilo and the Big Island. Always apply a high-SPF, water-resistant sunscreen to exposed skin, reapplying every two hours or after swimming. Wear a wide-brimmed hat to shield your face, neck, and ears. UV-blocking sunglasses are essential to protect your eyes and the delicate skin around them. Consider wearing lightweight, long-sleeved shirts and pants made from UV-protective fabrics for extended drives. Stay hydrated by keeping a reusable water bottle in the car. If possible, plan longer drives during early morning or late afternoon to avoid peak sun hours. Remember, even on cloudy days, UV rays can be strong, so maintain sun protection habits throughout your Hilo convertible rental adventure.
When selecting a convertible rental for your Hilo adventure, consider the vehicle's size and comfort for long drives along scenic routes. Look for a model with good fuel efficiency to save on gas costs during island explorations. Assess the convertible top mechanism — some are easier to operate than others, which can be crucial for Hilo's changeable weather. Think about trunk space if you plan on beach trips or hiking excursions. A convertible with good ground clearance might be beneficial for some of Hilo's less-developed roads. If you're planning to visit higher elevations, ensure the car has enough power to handle steep inclines. Lastly, choose a convertible that matches your driving comfort level, as Hilo's winding roads can be challenging for some drivers.
Daytime convertible drives around Hilo offer stunning visual feasts of lush rainforests, cascading waterfalls, and panoramic ocean views. The warm sun and tropical breezes enhance the sensory experience. Nighttime drives, however, present a different kind of magic. With the top down, you can stargaze at Hawaii's incredibly clear night sky, especially on moonlit nights. The cooler evening air is refreshing, and you might catch the glow of Kilauea volcano in the distance. Be extra cautious at night, as some rural roads around Hilo may have limited lighting. Wildlife is more active after dark, so drive slowly and stay alert. Both day and night convertible experiences in Hilo are unique, offering contrasting but equally memorable adventures.
When operating your convertible rental's roof in Hilo, always ensure the vehicle is stationary and on level ground. For soft tops, check for any debris on the fabric before lowering to prevent damage. In Hilo's humid climate, allow the top to dry completely before closing to avoid mold growth. For hardtops, ensure the trunk is empty and the partition is in place before operating. Be mindful of overhead clearance when raising the roof, especially under low-hanging tropical foliage. In case of sudden rain, familiarize yourself with the quick-close procedure. Regularly clean and maintain the roof mechanism to prevent issues caused by Hilo's damp environment. Lastly, always secure loose items in the car before opening the top to enjoy Hilo's beautiful scenery safely.
