Super easy pick up and drop off. Much more convenient than traditional rental companies. Mahalo!

We had an amazing experience renting Sean's Jeep. The vehicle was clean, reliable, and perfect for exploring everything the island has to offer. Sean was friendly, responsive, and made the entire rental process smooth and hassle-free. The Jeep handled all of our adventures with ease and made our trip even more memorable. We would absolutely rent from Sean again and highly recommend him to anyone visiting the Big Island. Mahalo, Sean!

Michael’s car was absolutely beautiful and made our family’s trip to Kona an experience we’ll never forget. We did run into a small hiccup during our stay, but as soon as I let Michael know, he immediately found a solution instead of making excuses, allowing us to continue enjoying our vacation without stress. Outstanding host and excellent service. I would highly recommend Michael to anyone looking for a great Turo experience!
Amazing trip! The jeep was perfect and the hosts were phenomenal - . fast and friendly communication and they were able to provide a ton of local resources and ideas. We’d absolutely rent again and highly recommend. Mahalo for helping make our trip unforgettable!
The trip was absolutely phenomenal and the Jeep was amazing. Highly recommend renting it.

Amazing experience, beautiful car, great host and great communication. Will definitely rent again!
Ben was a great host, all instructions were clear, even to me as a first-time Turo renter. The car was in good enough condition to be a fun drive, but used enough to be an economical choice for a convertible.
Great communication. Easy pick up and nice vehicle. I’d love to rent from Eddie again.

Herbert was very nice and informative. Vehicle is well kept and nice to ride. If I return to the island would rent again. ALOHA
The car was in great condition and drove really well. The hosts were excellent communicators. Thanks for a fab trip!

Great experience!! The car was clean, perfect condition and fun to drive. The host made this experience as easy as possible. Communication with our host was great. Pickup at the airport was very easy as was the drop off. This sure beats a rental car. I highly recommend this car and host!! Thank you!

This BMW 2 Series Convertible is literally the best car to rent if you plan on doing a little driving around the island. Rent it for the experience. It’s a sick looking car and it drives beautifully. Very comfortable for 2 people. Car was in perfect shape and gave me no problems. Very fun car to drive around the mountains. I was considering something a little more fuel efficient like a Prius, but this absolutely makes the trip a blast. You’re not going to spend much on gas regardless. Treat yourself, you’ll thank me later. Host was extremely accommodating. Never left me hanging for a second whenever we had to communicate. Will book again when I’m back.
Great jeep. These type of tires have road noise. Great value. I would rent again. Not my wife's cup of tea, lifted so harder for some people.to get in and out. 4 cyl turbo.t tops.

Great car! Super clean, super cool, the convertible too was a must in Hawaii!
Car quality host responsiveness and communication excellent! Made our trip extra pleasant! Highly recommend.

Great to work with Michael, he was flexible and solved issues. Would rent again from him! Thanks
Peters Jeep was great. No issues at all. Vehicle ran well. We were all over the island, 800 miles was just the right amount for our trip. Would highly recommend
The Big Island beckons with incredible diversity, from black sand beaches to snow-capped peaks and everything in between. Your rental car opens doors to Kailua-Kona's historic sites, the famous Kona coffee farms nestled in volcanic slopes, and the mesmerizing Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. A convertible transforms each journey into an unforgettable experience, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the island's tropical atmosphere while discovering hidden gems along winding coastal roads and scenic mountain drives.
This sacred bay holds deep cultural significance as the place where Captain James Cook first landed in Hawaii. The crystal-clear waters offer some of the island's best snorkeling, with vibrant coral reefs teeming with tropical fish. Your convertible ride to this historic location takes you through charming upcountry roads lined with macadamia nut trees and coffee plantations. Parking is available near the bay, though spaces fill quickly during peak hours. The scenic drive itself becomes part of the adventure, with panoramic ocean views unfolding as you descend toward this protected marine sanctuary.
Known as the Place of Refuge, this ancient sanctuary protected those who broke sacred laws in old Hawaii. The park preserves authentic Hawaiian structures, including the impressive Hale o Keawe temple, surrounded by towering palm trees and black lava rock walls. The coastal drive to reach this cultural treasure winds through rural landscapes where time seems to stand still. Ample parking accommodates visitors exploring the self-guided trails that reveal centuries of Hawaiian history and tradition along the dramatic shoreline.
Rising over 13,000 feet above sea level, Mauna Kea offers otherworldly landscapes and world-renowned stargazing opportunities. The visitor center provides educational programs and acclimatization stops before venturing higher. Your journey up this sacred mountain takes you through multiple climate zones, from tropical coastline to alpine desert. The winding road rewards drivers with spectacular views at every turn, though the elevation gain requires careful preparation. Parking at the visitor center is well-maintained, and the experience of driving through clouds to reach this astronomical wonderland creates memories that last a lifetime with your convertible adventure.
This striking beach showcases the Big Island's volcanic origins with its jet-black sand created by ancient lava flows meeting the ocean. Hawaiian green sea turtles frequently bask on the warm sand, creating magical wildlife viewing opportunities. The drive south from Kona takes you through diverse landscapes of hardened lava fields and lush tropical vegetation. Parking areas provide easy beach access, though the unique sand can get quite hot under the tropical sun, making timing your visit important for comfort.
This spectacular 442-foot waterfall plunges through a lush tropical rainforest canyon, creating one of Hawaii's most photographed natural wonders. The paved loop trail winds through dense vegetation filled with wild orchids, bamboo groves, and towering ferns. Your scenic drive to reach Akaka Falls takes you through the charming town of Hilo and up into the verdant Hamakua Coast. The park offers adequate parking facilities, and the short hike to multiple viewpoints rewards visitors with breathtaking perspectives of this thundering cascade. The convertible journey through changing landscapes adds excitement to discovering this natural masterpiece.

No, you don't need personal insurance coverage to rent a car on Turo. In the US, any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host's vehicle would kick in before your Turo protection plan. When booking a car in the US, you'll choose between three protection plans — Premier (eligibility requirements apply), Standard, or Minimum — to get the level of protection that's right for you. On each trip, you're covered with third-party automobile liability insurance provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company.* In New York state, you'll also choose between Premier (if available), Standard, or Minimum. With each plan, you're covered with liability insurance of $1,250,000.* Protection plans for New York trips also include access to roadside assistance, priority phone support, and 24/7 customer assistance.
Renting a convertible at Kona International Airport lets you experience Hawaii's tropical climate and stunning Big Island scenery with the wind in your hair. A Ford Mustang convertible or similar vehicle enhances your Kailua-Kona adventure by providing open-air views of volcanic landscapes, ocean vistas, and lush tropical vegetation. The year-round warm weather in Kona makes convertible driving ideal for exploring the island's diverse attractions.
Yes there is — whether you want to rent a car for three days, three months, or even longer, you can on Turo. You'll find discounted prices on bookings lasting 3+, 7+, or 30+ days, so you can get the best deals and lowest rates possible by booking longer trips.
Take Queen Kaahumanu Highway (Highway 19) south from Kona airport for a straightforward route to Kailua-Kona's downtown area. The drive features clear signage and well-maintained roads leading directly into the heart of Kailua's historic district. Your rental car journey takes you past lava fields and coastal views before reaching the bustling shops, restaurants, and waterfront of downtown Kona.
No toll roads exist on the Big Island, making your rental car journey from Kona airport completely free of additional charges. Hawaii's road system operates without tolls, allowing you to explore Kailua-Kona and surrounding areas without worrying about toll fees. This makes budgeting for your island adventure straightforward when planning your convertible car rental experience.
Several gas stations are conveniently located along Queen Kaahumanu Highway between Kona International Airport and Kailua-Kona town. You'll find multiple fuel options in the Kailua area and throughout the Big Island's main corridors. Fill up your rental car before heading to remote areas, as gas stations become less frequent in rural parts of the island.
The scenic drive south to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park offers breathtaking volcanic landscapes and unique geological formations perfect for convertible exploration. Head north along the Kohala Coast to discover pristine beaches, luxury resorts, and historic sites throughout the Big Island. The loop around the entire island provides diverse scenery from tropical rainforests to black sand beaches, making your Kona rental car adventure unforgettable.
Some hosts offer unlimited distance for a trip; others set a daily distance limit — you'll need to check on each rental car individually to see if this service is provided. On the vehicle pages, you'll see the total miles or kilometers you're allowed to drive under the heading "Distance included." You can find cars offering unlimited mileage with every trip by using the "Unlimited distance" filter.
Hawaii follows standard US traffic laws with right-hand driving and speed limits typically ranging from 25-55 mph on most Big Island roads. Always yield to pedestrians at crosswalks, especially in busy areas like Kailua-Kona town center. Seat belts are mandatory for all passengers, and using handheld devices while driving is prohibited throughout the island.
