Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 2020

The car was a bit bumpy/shaky with some of the roads but gets the job done and was great to have on roads down to beaches and bays! We had the check engine light come on, but Michelle was very prompt in letting us know the situation, and it didn’t hinder our trip. We did find it hard to find a place for our phone with our limited reach of the media charger but not a big deal. Just limited room up front besides the cup holders. All-in-all had a great trip and Michelle and Grant’s vehicle was great for what we needed and had plenty of room in the trunk for our luggage and the kids to sit in the second row! Thanks again for the great communication and easy trip!

Exploring Big Island attractions from Kona International Airport

The Big Island beckons with incredible diversity, from black sand beaches to snow-capped peaks and everything in between. Your rental car opens doors to Kailua-Kona's historic sites, the famous Kona coffee farms nestled in volcanic slopes, and the mesmerizing Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. A convertible transforms each journey into an unforgettable experience, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the island's tropical atmosphere while discovering hidden gems along winding coastal roads and scenic mountain drives.

Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park

This sacred bay holds deep cultural significance as the place where Captain James Cook first landed in Hawaii. The crystal-clear waters offer some of the island's best snorkeling, with vibrant coral reefs teeming with tropical fish. Your convertible ride to this historic location takes you through charming upcountry roads lined with macadamia nut trees and coffee plantations. Parking is available near the bay, though spaces fill quickly during peak hours. The scenic drive itself becomes part of the adventure, with panoramic ocean views unfolding as you descend toward this protected marine sanctuary.

Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park

Known as the Place of Refuge, this ancient sanctuary protected those who broke sacred laws in old Hawaii. The park preserves authentic Hawaiian structures, including the impressive Hale o Keawe temple, surrounded by towering palm trees and black lava rock walls. The coastal drive to reach this cultural treasure winds through rural landscapes where time seems to stand still. Ample parking accommodates visitors exploring the self-guided trails that reveal centuries of Hawaiian history and tradition along the dramatic shoreline.

Mauna Kea Summit and Visitor Center

Rising over 13,000 feet above sea level, Mauna Kea offers otherworldly landscapes and world-renowned stargazing opportunities. The visitor center provides educational programs and acclimatization stops before venturing higher. Your journey up this sacred mountain takes you through multiple climate zones, from tropical coastline to alpine desert. The winding road rewards drivers with spectacular views at every turn, though the elevation gain requires careful preparation. Parking at the visitor center is well-maintained, and the experience of driving through clouds to reach this astronomical wonderland creates memories that last a lifetime with your convertible adventure.

Punalu'u Black Sand Beach

This striking beach showcases the Big Island's volcanic origins with its jet-black sand created by ancient lava flows meeting the ocean. Hawaiian green sea turtles frequently bask on the warm sand, creating magical wildlife viewing opportunities. The drive south from Kona takes you through diverse landscapes of hardened lava fields and lush tropical vegetation. Parking areas provide easy beach access, though the unique sand can get quite hot under the tropical sun, making timing your visit important for comfort.

Akaka Falls State Park

This spectacular 442-foot waterfall plunges through a lush tropical rainforest canyon, creating one of Hawaii's most photographed natural wonders. The paved loop trail winds through dense vegetation filled with wild orchids, bamboo groves, and towering ferns. Your scenic drive to reach Akaka Falls takes you through the charming town of Hilo and up into the verdant Hamakua Coast. The park offers adequate parking facilities, and the short hike to multiple viewpoints rewards visitors with breathtaking perspectives of this thundering cascade. The convertible journey through changing landscapes adds excitement to discovering this natural masterpiece.
