Toyota Corolla 2015

I will break my car rental experience (November, 2025) into 3 parts: Turo, car provider and vehicle. Turo. First time to use this app. Overall, simple and intuitive to use. It is a good option when compared to the traditional car rental companies. It was really nice not having to wait at the service rental counter. Car provider. Once you finish with the Turo process, you finalize all the details with the car owner. Daniel was exceptional to work with. He was timely and thorough with his responses to all my inquiries. Our flight arrived earlier than scheduled. I contacted Daniel and he had the car immediately available for my use. He was honest and trustworthy. At the end of the trip, I identified what I thought was a new chip in the paint. He reported it was present before the rental and not an issue. There is comfort in knowing there was no hidden agenda. Vehicle, Toyota Corolla, 2015. Don't let the age or size of the car deter you. The car was clean, dependable and satisfied all of my needs for 2 people. Hawaii may be dramatic with its natural wonders, but it is stingy with the parking spaces and roads (think road to Hana and Haleakala Volcano). We were happy to be driving this car instead of the SUVs and Jeeps that populated the parking lots and narrow, twisting roads. Overall, I would recommend Turo and HIGHLY recommend Daniel and his Toyota Corolla for your car rental needs in Maui.

We had an amazing experience renting this car in Maui! The vehicle was clean, reliable, and exactly as described. It was perfect for exploring the island, from the Road to Hana to the beautiful beaches around Maui. The owner was friendly, responsive, and made the pickup and drop-off process incredibly easy. Communication was excellent throughout the entire rental. I would absolutely rent this car again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Maui. Mahalo for helping make our trip so enjoyable!

Great car with no problems. Great communication with the owners. The spot for the car pickup was a bit unclear; we had a bit of a hard time finding the location with the address given using Google Maps (maybe some photos or coordinates for the location would help), but due to the quick communication, we were able to find it quickly. Given the good price compared to other options in the area, would definitely recommend this and even rent it myself again.

Beautiful car for a magical vacation! Our tour guide had it right: Maui is meant to be spent cruising the island with the top down and the sun shining! The car was clean, easy to find, and the owners responded quickly to any questions I had. My only glitch was not knowing how to properly connect the windows. They sent this video, which I highly recommend. It solved all issues we were having. https://youtu.be/5xB6vHZ19Jw?si=YfdlNuoHRkZGtRAE In short: we loved the car and would definitely rent again on our next Maui getaway!

This was one of our best experiences with Turo. Pickup / drop off was a breeze. The car was great! It was perfect for our trip, including a trip to Road to Hana and up to Haleakala National Park. The gas mileage was amazing! And Diana was super friendly and easy to communicate with. Book this one!

Honda Civic 2023

If you see the automatic review below saying the host cancelled the trip, I want to explain what actually happened. I made a mistake with my booking, and Jin cancelled the reservation so I could get my refund and rebook the car correctly. She absolutely didn’t have to do that. She could have kept the non-refundable payment and moved on, but instead she went out of her way to help me fix the situation, even though it resulted in the automatic cancellation message below. That kind of integrity is rare and exactly the type of person I want to do business with. The car itself was great, everything worked perfectly, and the trip went smoothly. But more importantly, Jin is spectacular and someone I recommend renting from.

It was so easy to pick up the car and drop it off at the airport unlike when you rent a car from those car rental places. It got great gas mileage. Lisa was very clear in her instructions. Would rent from her again!

Toyota Camry 2013

Great experience with this Turo rental. It was parked right outside of the baggage claim area in the parking lot, and we only had to pay $15 for parking. The parking fee (max $24) is mentioned in all of the previous reviews and the pick up instructions, so it shouldn't be a surprise. Sure the vehicle is 13 years old and definitely shows some age with the interior and exterior, but honestly it helped us feel more at ease because it didn't stick out like "a rental" when having car windows broken into is a thing in Maui. It was super great for any small roads and tight corners, and was enough room for our family of 5 (two adults and three kids) and our beach gear. It has an USB AUX cord for charging phones and streaming music, but no modern "extras" like built in GPS / CarPlay. Biggest bonus: the MPGs! Hybrid cars are 100% the way to go on an island. We drove the car daily for a week and only had to put maybe $40 in gas, and that INCLUDED a drive to the summit of Haleakalā. It was incredible. If you're a budget-conscious traveler that wants to save $$$ on a rental cost and gas, who just needs something to go from A to B on vacation, and don't care about appearances or that new car smell, this is the car for you.

Mazda MX-5 Miata 2024

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We rented this Mazda MX-5 for our Maui adventure, and it exceeded our expectations. Driving a convertible through Maui is an experience in itself, and the MX-5 made every mile enjoyable. We drove the entire Road to Hana, tackling the winding curves, narrow bridges, and changing weather conditions with ease. The car was responsive, comfortable, and incredibly fun to drive on some of the most scenic roads in Hawaii. We also used it for the Shaka Guide West Maui self-guided tour, cruising along the coastline and stopping at countless scenic overlooks, beaches, and local spots. With the top down, it felt like the perfect island car. As passengers arriving on the NCL Spirit, the rental location was a short and easy walk from the cruise pier, which was incredibly convenient. It even helped us get a few extra steps in for the day before hitting the road! The fuel economy was excellent, parking was a breeze, and the car added an extra level of fun to our Maui experience. Overall, this Mazda MX-5 helped make our cruise stop unforgettable. We would absolutely rent it again and highly recommend it to anyone looking to explore Maui in style. Mahalo for helping make our day in Maui so memorable! -

Pickup & return areas at OGG

Once you exit baggage claim at Kahului Airport, follow the signs to the rental car center tram walkway. Hop on the tram and exit at the first stop, then cross the pedestrian path to reach the West Parking Lot (Rows A–D) — the official Turo pickup zone. Check the Turo app for the exact pickup and return location of your vehicle for a smooth start (and end!) to your trip.

Communicate with your host

Every detail you need, from where to find your car to how to return it, is available right in the Turo app. Hosts and guests connect exclusively via Turo's in-app messaging, so you can quickly check pickup instructions, send updates, or confirm location changes without any back-and-forth outside the platform.

Parking & airport fees

OGG charges a fee to allow Turo to deliver cars directly to the airport. Turo doesn't set this fee, mark it up or retain any portion of it. If your host requires you to pay for parking at the airport, this will be clearly stated on the vehicle listing so you know exactly what charges apply before you book.

Kahului anchors the northern shore of Maui Island, where cargo ships unload, trade winds stir, and every road promises a different kind of magic. A rental car opens up the full experience –– from misty valley hikes to oceanfront plate lunches –– without relying on the same amount of crowded, inflexible transport the tourists take.

Top tips for renting a car in Kahului

Kahului is made for exploring by car — think sunrise at Haleakalā, a lazy coast along the Road to Hāna, or beach hopping between coves. Booking a rental car at Kahului Airport means you can skip the crowds and get straight to the good part. Here's what to know before your wheels hit the road.

How does airport pickup work at Kahului Airport?

Once you exit baggage claim, follow the signs to the tram station and take the short journey to the West Parking Lot. From there, walk to the West Parking Lot (Rows A–D) where your rental vehicle will be waiting. Your host will share details via the Turo app, including where to find the car at the terminal parking — no need to navigate lines at traditional car rental companies.

How does drop-off work at Kahului Airport?

When your trip wraps, return the car to the same West Parking Lot and park in an approved space. Simply drive back to the airport, park the car and shoot your host a quick message via the Turo app to confirm exactly where the vehicle is parked. Then, stroll over the terminal to catch your departing flight.

How far is Kahului Airport from Downtown Kahului?

Kahului Airport is just a 10-minute drive from the city center. With no return lane delays or shuttle service chaos, you can get from the driver’s seat to your gate quickly — and maybe even squeeze in one last lei shop on the way.

What are the road rules and driving conditions in Kahului?

Driving in Kahului is straightforward, but preparation is key. Traffic builds along Hana Highway, Dairy Road, and Puunene Avenue during the morning and late afternoon peaks. Speed limits typically range from 25–35 mph in town and up to 55 mph on highways like Route 311 and Hāna Highway. Be alert for changing speed zones near school zones and residential areas.

Weather can shift quickly on Maui, especially during the wet season from November to March. Flash rain showers and slick roads are common around higher elevations and coastal curves. If you're planning to explore scenic routes like the Road to Hana, daylight hours offer the best visibility and safest conditions.

Standard SUVs are a practical choice for navigating the island’s mix of paved highways and winding rural roads. As always, stay within posted limits, obey local signage, and avoid distractions behind the wheel. Drivers are expected to yield at unmarked intersections and come to a full stop at all stop signs.

What is parking like in Kahului?

Parking in Kahului is generally straightforward, especially around key hubs like Queen Kaʻahumanu Center, Kahului Shopping Center, and the surrounding industrial areas. You’ll find a mix of street parking and surface lots throughout the town, with ample spaces near shopping strips, eateries, and larger retailers. While metered parking is limited, many locations offer free or low-cost options depending on the time of day.

If you’re heading toward more scenic or residential parts of Maui Island — like Kanaha Beach Park or the roads leading out toward Upcountry — expect limited designated lots. Early arrival helps, especially on weekends. For overnight parking, confirm local signage, as restrictions can vary by zone.

Are there toll roads in Kahului?

There are no toll roads in Kahului or anywhere on Maui, making it easy to explore without tracking road fees.

Where can I find gas stations and EV chargers in Kahului?

You’ll find plenty of gas stations along Dairy Road, Hana Highway, and Puʻunēnē Avenue — including Shell, Aloha, and Hele. For EV drivers, there’s a growing network of charging stations across Kahului.

Plug in your electric luxury sedan near Target, the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center, or the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College. Most are located within the same facility as shopping or civic centers, making it convenient to recharge while running errands or grabbing a bite.

Do I need to rent a car in Kahului?

Absolutely. Maui Island’s sprawling layout and limited public transportation make a rental car essential for discovering the island's true character. A rental car gives you the freedom to set your own schedule, drive routes like the Road to Hāna, and reach remote beaches, hiking trails, or farms with ease — no group tour, no fixed rental period, just full flexibility.

From breezy coastal roads to mountain switchbacks, book a car that suits the rhythm of your trip. Here are some of the most popular car rental options available on Turo:
