Sasha was so accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed for our trip. I accidentally put our rental time for AM instead of PM and did not show up for the reserved pick-up time. She moved the car in a parking garage so I could still pick up the car, even though it was a very inconvenient situation for her. The car was clean and ran great.

Great rental for our family! The car ran smoothly the entire trip and was surprisingly great on gas - we drove all over NJ and NYC and only filled up once. It easily fit our two car seats, and the trunk had plenty of room for a pack-and-play, luggage, backpacks, and more. The backup camera was helpful, and while there’s no Apple CarPlay, we were able to connect our phones to play music, which was a lifesaver with two kids. Just know this is an older, city-driven car with nearly 200k miles, so it has some cosmetic damage. Make sure to take photos before your trip. Also, the passenger window only works from the driver’s controls. None of this affected our trip, and the car was mechanically sound and handled city driving and parking with no problems. The hosts were communicative and easy to work with. One thing to plan for is airport pickup and return - you’ll need to take the rental car shuttle and meet on a nearby side street, so it’s not a curbside airport pickup. Overall, this was a great value and exactly what we needed. We’d definitely rent it again for getting around the city. Thanks!

The car was very clean on the inside. It drove well. It felt safe. It was an easy pickup in the terminal parking lot. There were a number of scratches on the car but they weren't substantial and didn't impact my trip.

For my first trip with Turo, Jay was great and very communicative. Vehicle was clean, handled well., but did have a few chips and scratches on the vehicle at pickup. Jay was great with the upfront documentation needed, but I was a little bummed about the navigation/bluetooth connectivity options being put behind an add-on package to the trip, as that is now standard in modern vehicles from other rental chains. The self driving add-on made sense due to the extra price the owner would take on to get that software for the vehicle through Tesla.

Traffic moves at a steadier pace in Middle Village, unlike the stop-and-go nature of busier NYC areas. However, be prepared for more pedestrians and cyclists in the city center. Middle Village has fewer one-way streets and complex intersections than Manhattan, simplifying navigation. When transitioning to busier parts of NYC, be ready for more aggressive drivers, increased honking, and the need for quicker decision-making. Always stay alert for sudden stops and lane changes in high-traffic areas.

Are there any toll roads or bridges to be aware of when driving around Middle Village and greater New York?

While Middle Village itself doesn't have toll roads, driving in the greater New York area often involves tolls. Be prepared for tolls when using major bridges and tunnels to Manhattan or other boroughs. The Triborough Bridge and Queens Midtown Tunnel are common toll routes near Middle Village. Many New York toll facilities use electronic tolling systems, so consider getting an E-ZPass for convenience and potential discounts. If you don't have an E-ZPass, tolls can be paid by mail or online using your rental car's license plate number. When planning trips, factor in potential toll costs and have a payment method ready. Some GPS apps can help you find toll-free routes, but these may take longer. Always check current toll rates before your journey, as they can change periodically.

What are some best practices for driving safely in unfamiliar areas around Middle Village and New York State?

When exploring unfamiliar areas around Middle Village and New York State, prioritize safety and preparedness. Familiarize yourself with local traffic laws and signs, as they may differ from what you're used to. Use a reliable GPS or navigation app, but don't rely on it exclusively - always be aware of your surroundings. In urban areas, watch for pedestrians, cyclists, and sudden stops. On highways, maintain a safe following distance and be prepared for varying speed limits. In rural areas, be cautious of wildlife, especially at dawn and dusk. Always have a physical map as a backup and inform someone of your travel plans. Stay focused on the road and avoid distractions. If you need to check directions or make a call, pull over safely. Lastly, trust your instincts - if an area feels unsafe, it's best to move on.
