Mazda MX-5 Miata 2016

Had a totally fun time in this car. It drove great, handled great and the price was right. If you know ahead of time that there is a little bit of wear in and tear on the car, then it's a great value and great car. And honestly, considering the other reviews, I was expecting more wear and tear. The exterior scratches are barely noticeable The interior is in very good shape. The speakers are shot so the sound system is not very good. But again, once you know all that, this is a fantastic ride. I will definitely be renting it again later this summer.

Chevrolet Corvette 2022

Let’s just say first pics of this car dies not do it justice. This car is amazing!!!!! I have driven some nice cars including exotic but this one right here tops them. I had kids calling me Batman lol. Everywhere I went it took me at least 30 minutes to leave because someone was approaching me to ask questions or take pics. I WILL DEFINITELY BE RENTING THOSE CAR AGAIN IN THE NEAR FUTURE!!!! Oh and the gas mileage is amazing I had the car for 5 days and drove a lot and only put gas in it twice. Premium gas for both fill ups cost me about $150 to give you an idea of what it would cost and that’s at $5 a gallon.

If both of those garages are full, no stress - Turo also permits pickup and return at the ParkRDU Economy 3, Economy 4, or Express lots. Most pickups happen curbside, outside cafes, hotels, or popular landmarks like Moore Square or Fayetteville Street - just confirm the exact location ahead of time by checking the Turo app. Parking can get tight in peak hours, so if you're coordinating a handoff, opt for quieter side streets or public lots to avoid the rush.

North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

The area is walkable and surrounded by green space, making it easy to spot your host and get oriented. Top tips for renting a car in Raleigh

Whether you're road-tripping to the coast, heading out to Durham for dinner, or exploring Raleigh’s museums and greenways, having your own set of wheels makes it all easier. From navigating city traffic to knowing where to park or charge up, here are some quick tips to make your Raleigh rental car experience smooth and flexible.

What are the road rules and driving conditions in Raleigh?

Driving in Raleigh is generally smooth, but like any growing city, it pays to know the rules of the road. Locals are used to getting around by car, so expect a car-heavy culture with minimal public transit. Always wear your seatbelt - North Carolina law requires it for both front and backseat passengers. Speed limits vary, so keep an eye on posted signs: most residential streets sit around 25–35 mph, while major roads like I-440 and I-40 can reach up to 70 mph.

Raleigh drivers can be a bit hurried, especially during rush hour or around construction zones, so give plenty of space and stay alert. Using your phone while driving (without hands-free tech) is also a no-go, especially if you're under 18. With solid road maintenance and decent signage, it's an easy city to drive in once you get your bearings - just keep things safe, respectful, and rule-abiding.

What is parking like in Raleigh?

Parking in Raleigh is generally easy to navigate, with a mix of metered street parking, city-run garages, and private lots. Most public parking areas accept payment through the Passport mobile app, which covers metered spots, two city-owned lots, and several garages. If you're heading downtown or to the Convention Center, you’ll find well-marked parking decks nearby - just check signage for pricing, which usually varies by the hour or event. On weekends and evenings, some spots offer free or reduced rates, making it a little friendlier on your wallet.

Are there toll roads in Raleigh?

Yes, Raleigh has a major toll road called the Triangle Expressway, North Carolina’s first modern toll route. It stretches nearly 37 miles between Wake and Durham counties and uses a fully electronic tolling system (no booths).

Are there gas stations and EV chargers in Raleigh?

You’ll have no trouble fueling up in Raleigh, whether you’re driving gas or electric. For traditional fill-ups, Sheetz on Corporate Center Drive, Shell on West Peace Street, and Shell on South Saunders Street are popular and easy to access. If you’re in an EV, you’ve got solid coverage too - check out the EVgo Charging Station on Wade Avenue, the Tesla Supercharger on North Hills Avenue, or EVgo on Arrow Drive. Most are conveniently located near major roads and shopping areas, so you can plug in while grabbing a coffee or groceries.

Do I need to rent a car in Raleigh?

Renting a car in Raleigh is highly recommended if you want to make the most of your time in the city. While there is public transportation, Raleigh is a car-centric city - most destinations, especially outside the downtown core, are easiest to reach with your own set of wheels. Whether you're heading to museums, local parks, or exploring nearby towns, having a rental car offers the flexibility and convenience that public transit and rideshares often can’t match.

Frequently asked questions about Raleigh car rentals

Learner’s permit/instruction permits are not accepted.

How does car rental insurance work on Turo?

No, you don’t need personal insurance coverage to rent a car on Turo.

In the US, any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host’s vehicle would kick in before your Turo protection plan. When booking a car in the US, you’ll choose between three protection plans — Premier (eligibility requirements apply), Standard, or Minimum — to get the level of protection that’s right for you. On each trip, you’re covered with third-party automobile liability insurance provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company.*

In New York state, you’ll also choose between Premier (if available), Standard, or Minimum. With each plan, you’re covered with liability insurance of $1,250,000.* Protection plans for New York trips also include access to roadside assistance, priority phone support, and 24/7 customer assistance.

Can other people drive the car that I rented?

Yes, multiple guests can drive the car you rent on Turo, as long as they are all approved to drive. The primary driver (whoever rented the car) can add additional drivers with no fees or additional charges. Only the primary driver can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do it for you. We encourage you to request to add additional drivers before your trip starts, though guests can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress.

To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. You can request to add drivers via the “Trips” tab in the Turo app without additional driver charges or extra costs.

The policy does not provide coverage for damage to a host’s vehicle.

For questions or information about the third party liability insurance that is included in protection plans, consumers in Maryland and the licensed states listed here may contact Turo Insurance Agency at (415) 508-0283 or claims@turo.agency.
