Wanted to give a great review on our experience with Turo! Had a late flight scheduled into Hagerstown airport. The big companies have cars there but not one single one would let you get a car after 5. So this was our first time using Turo. Download the app, found a car, and it was great after that. We we able to get the host to drop off and pickup the car right at the airport. Host communicated well and guided us through the whole process. Car was a good fit and we had no issues. Turo is a great system and the host was perfect. Will definitely use again!!!!!

Top tips for renting a car in Hagerstown

If you'll be visiting Hagerstown to soak up history, do some shopping or attend a business conference, having a reliable rental car at your disposal will allow you to discover the city on your own terms and at your own pace. Here are some rental car tips that could help you make the most of your time in one of Maryland's most beautiful cities.

What are the road rules and driving conditions in Hagerstown?

Hagerstown is a major transportation hub, so you could find yourself sitting in traffic if you use major roads like Interstate 70 or Interstate 81 during the morning or evening rush hours. Traffic can also be heavy inside the city during festivals and other events. You may be able to avoid traffic delays if you dial 511 on your mobile phone or visit the Maryland 511 website before you set out. This will connect you with the Maryland Department of Transportation's Coordinated Highways Action Response Team (CHART) and give you access to information about traffic conditions, road closures and weather-related events.

What is parking like in Hagerstown?

You will have no problem finding a place to park your rental car when you explore Hagerstown. There are parking meters on most streets in the downtown area, and the city operates three spacious parking garages. Parking at a meter for 15 minutes will cost you 25 cents, but parking is free after 5 p.m. and on weekends. You will also be able to park free if you leave your rental car in one of the city's garages between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday. At other times, parking in a garage will cost you $2 per hour. The garages are located on North Potomac Street, 25 Renaissance Way and West Antietam Street, and they are open 24 hours a day.

Are there toll roads in Hagerstown?

There are no toll roads within Hagerstown, but you may pay tolls if you use Interstate 95 or the Fort McHenry Tunnel to reach the city or visit nearby attractions. The cost of using the Express Toll Lanes on Interstate 95 will be based on traffic conditions, and you will be asked to pay $3 to use the Fort McHenry Tunnel if you have an E-ZPass. Drivers who don't have an E-ZPass pay $12 to use the tunnel.

Are there gas stations and EV chargers in Hagerstown?

There are more than a dozen large gas stations in Hagerstown, and many of them are open 24 hours a day. You will be able to find places to fill your rental car's tank on Dual Highway, U.S. Route 11, Interstate 81 and Interstate 70. If you rent an electric vehicle to explore Hagerstown, you won't have to drive far to charge its batteries. There is a Tesla Supercharger station on Venture Drive, an EVgo charging station on Wesel Boulevard and an Electrify America charging station on Walmart Drive. The City of Hagerstown also operates an EV charging station with three Level 3 fast chargers on North Potomac Street.

Do I need to rent a car in Hagerstown?

You'll be able to explore Hagerstown's vibrant and historic downtown area on foot, but you'll have to do some traveling if you want to visit the city's shopping malls and nearby attractions. You could rely on buses to get around, but having a rental car will allow you to set your own schedule and make your visit far less stressful. With a rental car, you'll be able to travel in comfort and arrive and leave when you please.
