Ute hire Sydney Airport

If you're visiting Sydney from interstate or overseas, you can arrange to pick up your ute directly at Sydney Airport. Skip the airport rental counter queues and choose a pick up location to suit you, either from the car park or a location close by. No need for public transport or expensive taxis. You can drive away from Sydney Airport in your ute rental.

Sydney hire ute types

On Turo, you'll find a range of modern vans, trucks and utes at competitive rates. Finding the right ute for you will come down to the task at hand and what you're trying to move. Are you transporting bulky items back from the shops to save the cost of delivery fees? Or are you carrying a commercial load and need to factor in roof racks or ladder racks? Whatever the job, Turo has the ute rental for you, with the ability to easily add on any handy extras you need.

Dual cab ute hire

Dual-cab utes have two rows of seating and can seat up to five passengers (including the driver). They're great for accommodating groups, families and cargo, but their load-carrying volume is compromised by the shorter length from the rear of the cab to the rear axle.

Single cab ute hire

Single cab utes are usually better for carrying bulkier items. Without the double rows of seats, these utes have more space for cargo (perfect for anyone moving houses or even camping in greater Sydney).

Tray utes

While most utes have tubs as their storage area, these vehicles have a wide tray. This makes them the perfect pick for loading bulky items, like double bed frames, since their lack of solid sides makes it easy to get things in and out.

4x4 ute hire

If you're hiring a ute in Sydney for an epic adventure, you might want to consider a 4WD. As the name suggests, they have a drivetrain that powers all four wheels, providing increased traction for rugged environments and unsealed roads, plus plenty of space for your kit and cargo. Expect all the perks of a 4x4 and ute, rolled into one.

Caged ute hire

Caged utes add security and safety for both domestic and commercial loads. Not only do their cages stop anyone from getting their hands on your cargo, but they can help you transport more by providing some added structure. This can be handy for loose items that need a bit more support.

Manual and automatic ute hire

Turo offers both manual and automatic ute rentals. Your choice will depend on your driving preferences and plans.

Sydney ute hire for any occasion

For those quick jobs where only a ute will do, like moving a mattress or transporting an overzealous IKEA shop home, hire a ute on Turo.

If you're moving house or are going on a camping trip around Sydney, rent a ute, car, truck or van for the entire weekend and give yourself plenty of time to get the job done. If you need it for even longer, Turo hosts offer long-term ute rentals for those who want a vehicle over a few weeks or months. Or perhaps you're considering buying one yourself and want to try it before you buy? Even better, planning ahead for a long-term hire will often score you a discounted rate.

What documents do I need to rent a ute in Sydney with Turo?

To book a ute on Turo in Sydney, you must create a Turo account, be 21 years old or older, have a valid driver’s licence, and get approved to drive on Turo. When you’re booking your first trip, you’ll go through a quick approval process by entering your driver’s licence and some other information. In most cases, you’ll get approved immediately, and you’ll be set for every future road trip, business trip, and family holiday!

Do I need my own insurance?

No, you don’t need personal insurance coverage to rent utes on Turo.

What protection plan options are available on Turo in Sydney?

When booking a ute in Australia, you’ll also choose between the Premier (if available), Standard, and Minimum protection plans. Each plan includes varying limits on financial responsibility for damage to a host’s vehicle. All trips include up to $20,000,000 (per event) in legal liability protection. Legal liability protection protects against damage to other people’s property and death or bodily injury (where the legal liability is not covered or capable of being covered by any statutory or compulsory scheme) as a result of an accident involving the vehicle. All protection is provided by Turo Travels Mutual.*

How do I get discounts on hire utes in Sydney?

On your Account page, make sure you’ve checked the box to receive email notifications, and enable push notifications from the Turo app in your phone settings — we’ll send you occasional promotions, discounts, and deals on ute hire in Sydney!

Additionally, frequent travellers on Turo can get rewarded with the loyalty bonus — earn a promo code for one bonus day when you take trips totalling 10 days in a 90-day period!**

Are there discounts on weekly or monthly trips?

Yes, many Turo hosts in Sydney offer discounted prices when you book trips lasting 3+, 7+, or 30+ days. Additionally, hosts can offer “early bird” discounts for Sydney trips booked a week or more in advance. So, if you are looking for cheap ute hire in Sydney, get the best car hire deals and lowest rates possible by booking longer trips, at least a week in advance.

How can I get unlimited kilometre ute hire during my trip in Sydney?

Some hosts offer ute hire in Sydney with unlimited KMs; others set a daily distance limit. On the vehicle pages, you’ll see the total kilometres you’re allowed to drive under the heading “Distance included.” You can find utes offering unlimited mileage with every trip by using the “Unlimited distance” filter.

What is the cancellation policy for guests on Turo?

You can cancel and get a full refund up to 24 hours before your trip starts. If you book a trip with less than 24 hours’ notice, you have one hour after booking to cancel free of charge. If you cancel after the free cancellation period ends, you will be charged a small cancellation fee.

What are the cleaning and safety policies on Turo?

Under the enhanced cleaning policy, hosts are required to clean and disinfect their vehicles thoroughly before every trip, so you can feel safe and comfortable behind the wheel. Turo hosts have access to training materials on enhanced safety measures and cleaning practices to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 or other viruses.

Is Turo a car rental company?

No. Unlike rental car companies, Turo is a peer-to-peer car sharing marketplace where you can book directly from trusted local car owners in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. Turo does not own any vehicles — Turo hosts share their own personal cars and set their own prices, discounts, vehicle availability, and delivery options.

Is there a fee to add additional drivers to my trip?

There is no fee or additional charge for adding a driver to your trip on Turo. Only the guest who booked the trip can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do it for you. We encourage you to request to add any additional drivers before your trip starts, though guests in Australia can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress.

To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s licence and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. You can request to add drivers via the “Trips” tab in the Turo app without additional driver charges or extra costs.

Can you hire a ute on your Ps in Sydney?

You can't rent a ute on your Ps in Sydney on Turo - you must have a valid full driver's license. No provisional or conditional licenses are accepted. This applies to ute rental, as well as cars, trucks and vans.

Do I need an international driving permit to drive in Sydney?

If you're a tourist or visiting from overseas, you're allowed to drive using your foreign licence for up to six months, as long as you meet these conditions:

- Maintain your status as a temporary overseas visitor.
- Hold a valid international licence.
- Have no history of driving disqualifications in NSW or any other location.
- Haven't faced licence suspension, cancellation, or withdrawal of driving privileges.

It's also advisable that you keep your foreign driver's or rider's licence on hand while driving in Sydney and greater New South Wales.
