The truck was exactly what we needed for our trip. It reliably got us to all the places we wanted to visit, and it was especially convenient for transporting the bicycle for the Ironman race. Communication throughout the rental process was excellent—clear, prompt, and easy to follow. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended.

Frequently asked questions in Lane Cove

Why rent a ute in Lane Cove?

Lane Cove's proximity to Sydney Harbour and the North Shore makes a rental ute perfect for transporting outdoor gear to waterfront locations and camping equipment for weekend getaways. The dual cab design provides comfortable seating for passengers while offering excellent cargo space for sporting equipment, furniture purchases, or DIY project materials. With Lane Cove's access to major arterial roads, a hired ute gives you the versatility to handle both urban driving and ventures into the Blue Mountains or Central Coast regions.

What's different about driving a ute versus a regular car?

Utes sit higher than standard vehicles, providing better visibility of traffic conditions and road hazards ahead, though you'll need to adjust mirrors carefully for the longer vehicle length. The rear tray affects weight distribution, so acceleration and braking feel different compared to traditional cars, especially when the truck bed is loaded with cargo. Modern dual cab utes offer excellent handling on sealed roads, with many Toyota models featuring advanced stability systems that make the transition from car driving quite manageable.

How do you park a large ute safely?

Always reverse into parking spaces when possible, as the higher seating position in trucks provides better visibility when exiting forward, and use your mirrors to judge the ute's length relative to parking bay boundaries. Many modern utes feature rear parking sensors and cameras that assist with spatial awareness, particularly useful in Lane Cove's shopping centres and street parking areas. Practise parallel parking in quiet areas first, as the dual cab design requires more space than regular vehicles, and always leave extra room between your rental ute and other cars.

How do you manage weight in your ute properly?

Distribute heavy items evenly across the truck tray and secure all cargo with tie-downs or cargo nets to prevent shifting during cornering and braking. Check your ute hire documentation for payload limits, as exceeding weight capacity affects handling, fuel consumption, and tyre wear on your hired ute. Position heavier items toward the front of the tray near the cab, which helps maintain proper weight distribution and prevents the rear from becoming unstable during highway driving.

What safety features do modern utes offer?

Contemporary utes include electronic stability control, multiple airbags throughout the dual cab, and advanced braking systems that help maintain control during emergency manoeuvres. Many Toyota truck models feature collision avoidance technology, lane departure warnings, and blind spot monitoring that enhance safety during highway driving and urban navigation. The elevated driving position provides excellent visibility of surrounding traffic, while robust construction and crumple zones offer superior protection compared to smaller vehicles.

Where are the best ute road trip destinations from Lane Cove?

The Hunter Valley wine region offers scenic drives perfect for utes, with plenty of space for transporting wine purchases and picnic equipment in your truck's cargo area. The Central Coast beaches provide excellent destinations where your dual cab ute can carry surfboards, fishing gear, and camping equipment for extended stays. Head west to the Blue Mountains where your ute rental gives you access to lookouts and national parks, with the truck's capability handling mountain roads and carrying hiking supplies with ease.

Is there unlimited kilometre car rental on Turo?

Some hosts offer unlimited distance for a trip; others set a daily distance limit — you'll need to check on each rental car individually to see if this service is provided. On the vehicle pages, you'll see the total miles or kilometres you're allowed to drive under the heading "Distance included." You can find cars offering unlimited mileage with every trip by using the "Unlimited distance" filter.

What documents and paperwork do you need to rent a car on Turo?

To book a car on Turo in Australia, you must create a Turo account, be 21 years old or older, have a valid driver's licence, and get approved to drive on Turo. When you're booking your first trip, you'll go through a quick approval process by entering your driver's licence and some other information. In most cases, you'll get approved immediately, and you'll be set for every future road trip, business trip, and family holiday!

What protection plan options does Turo offer?

When booking a car in Australia, you'll choose between the Premier (if available), Standard, and Minimum protection plans. Each plan includes varying limits on financial responsibility for damage to a host's vehicle. All trips include up to $20,000,000 (per event) in legal liability protection. All protection is provided by Turo Travels Mutual.*

Is there long term car rental on Turo?
