Frequently asked questions

How does protection work?

You can rest easy knowing you’re protected with $20,000,000 in legal liability protection to pay for damage to third-party property for all host protection plans. Turo Travels Mutual will reimburse hosts for eligible claims for vehicle damage in excess of the deductible, subject to terms and exclusions, for the lesser of the cost of repair up to the actual cash value of the vehicle or A$200,000.⁵

What happens if my car is damaged while it’s being shared on Turo?

You're protected if something doesn’t go to plan and your car gets damaged. You can choose between three protection plans — each includes reimbursement from Turo for eligible physical damage costs in excess of your plan’s deductible for the Reservation Period*** only.

Protection plans are not insurance but an agreement between you and Turo about how to allocate financial responsibility, and the protection plan your guest chooses is entirely separate from yours.

The protection plan available through Turo is separate from your personal insurance.

***The Reservation Period is the period shown for a booked trip. It begins at the trip start time listed in the reservation and when the vehicle is in the custody or control of the guest. It ends the earlier of the trip end time or when the vehicle is returned to the host or the location designated in the reservation.

What is Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance? How do I make sure I’m following my state’s car sharing regulations?

Requirements for car registration and Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance vary by state.

CTP insurance is mandatory for all registered cars, and you must obtain CTP insurance when you renew your car’s registration. States and territories operate their own CTP schemes. Every Turo host must have active CTP insurance. CTP insurance covers injuries to third parties but doesn’t cover property damage, damage to other cars, or your car, nor does it cover theft.

You are responsible for meeting the legal requirements set forth by your state.

What is an “orientation course”, and why do I have to take it?

In order to ensure that all hosts are properly set up for success on Turo, we require all new hosts to go through a quick 20-minute digital orientation course. During this course, we help explain hosting best practices and pitfalls to avoid.

During this course, we help explain hosting best practices and pitfalls to avoid.

This 20-minute orientation course is mandatory for all new hosts in Australia, and you won’t be able to publish your car on the platform unless you complete it.

You must complete the course only once, regardless of the number of cars you’re listing on Turo.

Please note that you won’t be able to start listing a second car on Turo until you complete your host orientation course.

I still have questions about hosting on Turo. Who can I get in touch with?

Before completing your listing, you'll have a chance to complete an orientation course before your vehicle gets published, which will help with any questions you may have. If you have multiple cars and want to ask about building a business on Turo, please send any questions to australia-host@turo.com
