A van rental in Sydney tends to become very important the moment you realise how much stuff you actually own. Whether you’re moving house, transporting equipment for a small business, or organising a group trip that requires more seats and less compromise, booking a van rental in Sydney keeps things refreshingly straightforward. You can sort your booking online, skip the rental counter, and get on with your plans instead of spending half the day comparing hidden costs and waiting for paperwork.

Sydney is one of those cities that manages to feel both energetic and laid-back at the same time. One minute you’re weaving through the CBD with a coffee in hand, the next you’re watching the ocean roll in somewhere along the coast. A van gives you the freedom to explore properly, especially if your plans involve groups, gear, or need a little extra space to spread out.

Bondi remains a Sydney classic for good reason. The beach itself is beautiful, the coastal walk is genuinely worth doing, and there’s always something happening nearby. Having a van makes the day much easier if you’re travelling with surfboards, beach gear, or a group that collectively refuses to pack light. Be sure to arrive early if you want easier parking.
A road trip to the Blue Mountains is one of the best ways to escape the city without needing a full itinerary. The scenery shifts quickly from busy streets to forested lookouts, walking trails, and small mountain towns that encourage slower afternoons. A rental van gives you more room for hiking gear and picnic supplies. It’s an easy day trip, though staying overnight is well worth it too.
Circular Quay is one of the easiest places to start exploring Sydney, with ferries, harbour views, and major landmarks all within walking distance. Park nearby and wander around the waterfront, grab lunch, or hop on a ferry if you feel like seeing the city from the water. It’s busy, but in a way that still feels exciting.

Great Van!!! Was ideal for moving furniture thanks to the Van being lined. Great to drive and easy to book.
Andre was awesome, very understanding and went out of his way to make my trip successful!

Rental as described. Thanks a lot to the owner. Well kept vehicle. A . Cheers!
Amazing host, had some issues with the van key cause it was dead. Alan came out and met me and fixed the issue quickly, even bought me a coffee! Awesome guy
Van was great, could’ve perhaps been cleaner upon pickup but was more than okay for purpose. Pickup was relatively easy, could be simplified a bit or there could be more communication regarding pickup process and vehicle location.

Easy process - car parked on the street with easy instructions for pick up/drop off back on the street. No contact in person and smooth process. Will rent again.
A great option for moving larger items. Good price and communication. Thanks Alan.
I'm from Hong Kong. This is my first time renting this 12-seater car in Sydney through this website. I rented it for eight days. The location was very convenient, the price was very reasonable, and the pickup and return process was extremely simple — I was very pleasantly surprised. Whenever I had questions, they communicated with me through the chat function on the Turo app. For a first-time user of this app, it's easy to get confused, but luckily there was a staff member to explain things during pickup. The car was exactly as described in the photos. I hope they can add more pickup locations in the future.
Providing patient and effective assistance. The vehicle is kept clean and fully functional.

Good location. Easy to pick up. Easy to drive, heaps of room for whatever job and in great condition for the miles and age. Just be aware it could be bit tricky to find a spot to return it, but it’s doable!!
Excellent service, No matter the time the host always responded and addressed all my concerns. Thanks

A little planning goes a long way when hiring a van in Sydney, especially if you’re driving a larger vehicle for the first time. Think about parking, fuel costs, passenger space, and how much room you realistically need before booking. Choosing the right van early can make the whole trip feel considerably easier.
Driving a van around Sydney is fairly straightforward once you adjust to the vehicle’s size and turning space. Take your time in tighter streets, especially around the Sydney CBD, and use features like reverse cameras whenever possible. Traffic can build quickly during peak periods and public holidays, so planning routes ahead helps. The good news is that most major roads are well signposted once you settle into the drive.
Parking a van in Sydney requires a little more patience than parking a standard car. Many underground car parks have height restrictions, so open-air parking areas are often the safer option for larger vehicles. Arriving earlier in busy areas like the CBD or beach suburbs also makes life easier.
The best vehicle depends entirely on what you need it for. Small van hire works well for quick city moves or business deliveries, while larger vans are better suited to moving house, group travel, or extended rental periods. Passenger vans like the Kia Carnival are ideal for families or airport transfers, while practical cargo options such as the Toyota HiAce offer plenty of storage space. Matching the van to the task saves time, money, and unnecessary frustration later.
Load heavier items first and position them lower in the vehicle to help keep things stable while driving. Secure loose items properly so they don’t shift during turns or sudden braking. If you’re moving furniture or larger equipment, give yourself more time than you think you’ll need. It somehow always takes longer than expected.
Fuel stations are easy to find throughout Sydney and along major roads across New South Wales. If your rental van uses diesel, double-check before filling up because correcting that mistake is not how anyone wants to spend their afternoon. EV chargers are also becoming more common across the city, particularly around shopping centres and major travel routes.

To rent a car on Turo in Australia, you must create a Turo account, have a valid driver’s license, get approved to drive on Turo, and be 21 years old or older.
When you’re booking your first trip, you’ll go through a quick approval process by entering your driver’s license and some other information. In most cases, you’ll get approved immediately, and you’ll be set for all future road trips, day trips, and business trips!
Near Sydney Airport: Picking up your van near Sydney Airport makes arriving and getting moving feel significantly less painful. You can avoid the airport rental counter shuffle, collect your vehicle nearby, and head straight toward your accommodation or next stop without unnecessary delays. This is particularly handy if you’re travelling with a group.
Sydney CBD: Van hire in the Sydney CBD is ideal if you’re already staying centrally or planning to move around the city before heading elsewhere. It’s convenient for small business use, moving apartments, or group trips that start right in the middle of the action. Just keep an eye on parking and peak traffic times because Sydney traffic occasionally enjoys testing everyone’s patience equally.
North Sydney: North Sydney offers an easy pickup location if you’re heading north out of the city or staying around the harbour suburbs. It’s particularly convenient for longer road trips, family travel, or transporting larger items without needing to navigate the busiest parts of the CBD first. A smoother start all around.
- Moving house van rental: Moving house in Sydney is already enough of a logistical event without trying to squeeze everything into multiple cars. A moving van gives you the space to transport furniture, boxes, and everything else in far fewer trips. Less time driving back and forth, more time wondering why you own three separate drawers full of cables.
- Group travel van rental: Travelling with friends or family becomes much easier when everyone fits into one vehicle comfortably. Passenger vans are ideal for airport runs, weekend escapes, or longer road trips around New South Wales. It also dramatically reduces the number of “where are you parked?” text messages.
- Small business and delivery van rental: For business owners, event setups, or larger deliveries, van hire offers flexible transport without committing to a permanent fleet vehicle. Cargo vans provide practical storage space while remaining manageable to drive around the city. A hassle-free option when business needs suddenly become bigger than your boot space.
You must have a valid, full, active, permanent licence to book a car in Australia. A valid licence is one that’s not expired, suspended, or revoked.
If you have a licence issued by a country outside of Australia, Turo requires you to have a valid permanent licence issued by your home country. If your home country's licence is not written in English, you must also have an International Driving Permit or an official English translation of your home country's licence.
The minimum age to rent a vehicle on Turo in Australia is 21 years of age, with all drivers under 25 years old being subjected to an extra cost of $15/day (a.k.a the Young Driver Surcharge). Plus, if you're looking to hire certain vehicle classes, you must be 25 or older to book a Deluxe Class vehicle, and 30 or older to book a Super Deluxe Class vehicle.
You don’t need personal insurance coverage to rent a car on Turo. When renting a car in Australia, you’ll choose between the Premier (if available), Standard, and Minimum protection plans. Each plan includes varying limits on financial responsibility for damage to a host’s vehicle. All trips include up to $20,000,000 (per event) in legal liability protection. Some hosts offer unlimited distance for a trip; others set a daily distance limit — you’ll need to check on each rental car individually to see if this service is provided. On the vehicle pages, you’ll see the total miles or kilometres you’re allowed to drive under the heading “Distance included.” You can find cars offering unlimited mileage with every trip by using the “Unlimited distance” filter.
Yes, multiple guests can drive the car you rent on Turo, as long as they are all approved to drive. The primary driver (whoever rented the car) can add additional drivers with no fees or additional charges. Only the primary driver can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do it for you. We encourage you to request to add additional drivers before your trip starts, though guests can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress.
To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. Van rental options in Sydney include everything from compact cargo vans to larger passenger vehicles designed for group travel and moving bigger loads. Popular options include practical workhorses like the Toyota HiAce and spacious people movers such as the Kia Carnival.
