Fort Worth, TX

Rodeo and Stockyards

Nothing captures the soul of Fort Worth quite like the weekly rodeo events and Stockyards. Start the day by watching the cattle drive, which takes place twice daily at 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Then munch on smoky, slow-cooked brisket in a traditional BBQ restaurant. Spend the afternoon exploring the area, browsing the boutique stores, and picking up souvenirs. You can't beat the good food and great atmosphere! As evening approaches, head over to the Cowtown Coliseum to catch an exciting Friday or Saturday night rodeo at 7:30 p.m. These exciting events are a nod to old Texas and the cowboy days.

The Cultural District

Fort Worth's cultural district is home to five extraordinary museums, all within walking distance. If museums are on your itinerary, consider renting a hotel right across the street from the museums. Then park your van and make it a "museum day." Start with the stunning glass-and-concrete Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, where even the architecture is art. Then walk over to the Kimball Museum, which houses an international collection. Continue to the Amon Carter Museum of Art, which celebrates American art. Additional museums in the area you won't want to miss include the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and the National Cowgirl Museum & Hall of Fame.

Fort Worth Zoo

On vacation with the kids? Consider spending a day at one of Fort Worth's crown jewels: the zoo. Here, you'll get to see up to 7,000 native and exotic animals. And with 500+ species, it's one of the few museums where you can see all four great ape species. On summer weekends, the little ones can splash around in the Safari Splash, a 14,000 square foot splash area. For an adventure that keeps going, the zoo has an overnight option, where you can spend the night and explore the zoo after dark.

Top tips for renting a van in Fort Worth

Surprisingly, rental vans are in high demand in Fort Worth due to the spring events at the historic Fort Worth Stockyards as well as the steady stream of new residents arriving from Dallas. When renting a van, think about the size and height you'll need and what you'll be transporting. Public garages and underpasses have specific heights, and not every van can squeeze through. Here are some tips to think about.

What is parking a van like in Fort Worth?

Many downtown Fort Worth garages have clearance limits (usually 6.6 - 7 inches), making them too low for many cargo vans. Check the height of your van before choosing a parking garage. To make things easier, do some online research and plan ahead before heading out. The area around Sundance Square has a few open-air lots, so this may be the best parking option. In addition, since cargo and passenger vans need lots of room around them, avoid squeezing the van into tight spaces.

How to choose the right type of van for your Fort Worth trip

Decide if you need a passenger van or a cargo van. Passenger vans are ideal if you're traveling with family or a large group. You can find compact vans that sit 9 people or larger vans that sit 12-15 people. If you're transporting equipment or furniture, you'll need a cargo van. These vans come with large empty spaces with tie-downs to secure your equipment.

Loading a cargo van

Before you start loading your cargo van rental, check its maximum load capacity. Load heavier items first and secure them with straps or tie-downs. Distribute the weight evenly to reduce shifting or load tipping. Protect all your fragile items with bubble wrap, blankets, or towels. Finally, leave an access path so you can get items you'll need during the trip, and pack those items last so they're easy to reach.

Gas stations and EV chargers in Fort Worth

There are plenty of gas stations along the 183 and the I-30, such as Shell and Texaco. Just remember that many vans take diesel, not regular gas, so be sure to use the correct fuel type. EV vans can charge up at the EVgo charging station, which can be found at three different Walgreens. A Blink charging station is located at the WestBend parking garage.

When booking a car in the US, you’ll choose between three protection plans — Premier (eligibility requirements apply), Standard, or Minimum — to get the level of protection that’s right for you. On each trip, you’re covered with third-party automobile liability insurance provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company.*

In New York state, you’ll also choose between Premier (if available), Standard, or Minimum. With each plan, you’re covered with liability insurance of $1,250,000.* Protection plans for New York trips also include access to roadside assistance, priority phone support, and 24/7 customer assistance.

Yes, multiple guests can drive the car you rent on Turo, as long as they are all approved to drive. The primary driver (whoever rented the car) can add additional drivers with no fees or additional charges. Only the primary driver can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do it for you. We encourage you to request to add additional drivers before your trip starts, though guests can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress.

To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. You can request to add drivers via the “Trips” tab in the Turo app without additional driver charges or extra costs.

* Any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host’s vehicle would kick in before your protection plan, except in limited situations for trips booked in Maryland, but this protects your own wallet.
