Renting a Jeep from Patrick to travel around Big Island was a great idea . I booked very last minute and he was able to drop off the vehicle at my hotel parking lot by the time I needed it . I also had to extend my trip and he was able to help me with that . I would definitely rent from Patrick again when I’m on big Island and I highly recommend renting a jeep for driving on the terrain here .

Exploring Big Island attractions from Hilo International Airport

From General Lyman Field, you'll discover an incredible array of natural wonders and cultural sites that showcase the Big Island's diverse beauty. Drive to Rainbow Falls, explore the fascinating lava tubes at Kazumura Cave, or venture to the renowned Hawaii Volcanoes National Park for an unforgettable geological adventure. Your rental SUV ensures comfortable transportation across varied terrain while providing ample space for gear, snorkeling equipment, and souvenirs. The elevated seating position offers excellent visibility for spotting wildlife and enjoying panoramic views of this volcanic paradise.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park adventures

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park stands as one of the world's most active volcanic regions, offering visitors the rare opportunity to witness ongoing geological processes. The park features the massive Kilauea crater, ancient lava flows, and unique ecosystems that have evolved in this volcanic environment. Your rental SUV provides reliable access to various park entrances and viewpoints, while the spacious interior accommodates hiking gear and camera equipment. The park's diverse elevation changes and sometimes challenging road conditions make this destination particularly well-suited for SUV exploration, ensuring you can safely reach remote viewing areas and trailheads.

Rainbow Falls natural beauty

Rainbow Falls creates a spectacular 80-foot cascade that produces brilliant rainbows in the morning mist, making it one of Hilo's most photographed landmarks. The waterfall flows over a natural lava cave, creating an impressive backdrop for photography and peaceful contemplation. Convenient parking areas near the falls make this attraction easily accessible, though the short hiking trail benefits from sturdy footwear. The surrounding tropical vegetation and scenic drive through residential Hilo neighborhoods provide additional photo opportunities along your journey to this natural wonder.

Mauna Kea summit stargazing experience

Mauna Kea towers as the world's tallest mountain when measured from its oceanic base, offering unparalleled stargazing opportunities at its summit observatories. The mountain's elevation creates some of the clearest skies on Earth, making it a premier destination for astronomy enthusiasts and casual stargazers alike. The winding mountain road requires careful navigation, particularly during evening ascents for sunset and stargazing sessions. Your rental SUV handles the elevation changes and varying road conditions with confidence, while providing warm shelter during cool mountain temperatures. The journey itself offers breathtaking views across the Big Island's diverse landscapes.

Akaka Falls scenic drive

Akaka Falls plunges 442 feet through lush tropical vegetation, creating one of Hawaii's most dramatic waterfall displays. The scenic route to Akaka Falls State Park winds through charming upcountry communities and offers glimpses of traditional Hawaiian ranch lands. A well-maintained loop trail provides access to both Akaka Falls and the smaller Kahuna Falls, surrounded by giant ferns, bamboo groves, and native Hawaiian plants. The park's elevated location provides cooler temperatures and refreshing trade winds, making it an ideal escape from Hilo's coastal humidity.

Laupahoehoe Point historical significance

Laupahoehoe Point serves as both a scenic coastal destination and a poignant memorial to the 1946 tsunami that dramatically shaped Big Island history. The dramatic black lava rock formations create tide pools perfect for marine life observation, while the powerful surf demonstrates the ocean's raw energy. This location offers excellent picnic facilities and restroom amenities, making it ideal for extended visits. The coastal drive to Laupahoehoe Point showcases the Big Island's rugged northern coastline, with your rental SUV providing comfortable transportation along the scenic Hamakua Coast highway. The point's exposed location can experience strong trade winds, adding to its dramatic natural appeal.
