Honda rental in San Diego, CA

First, I contemplated leaving a 4 star review for a few reasons. However, the prompt response to the issue with the original vehicle reserved, partly due to luck that someone happened to be onsite with the car, and the flexibility with returning the vehicle without requiring washing and vacuuming is deserving of some grace. The price for 5 day/4 night rental was fantastic, around $150 total. I certainly didn't expect a car in pristine shape for the cost. This car is a part of a Turo "rental company" fleet. It seems like a company that buys cheap, used cars to rent out. There are 12-15 cars parked behind a strip mall 8-10ish minutes from the airport in an area I was glad we were picking up and dropping off midday rather than the evening. The hybrid we originally reserved had stained seats and a lot of cosmetic wear. One tire looked like it was on a spare wheel and didn't have a lot of life left, honestly. A lot of the roads in San Diego aren't exactly in great shape, I was concerned about getting a flat. When we turned the car on to leave we immediately got check engine lights and a "pull over immediately" message. Fortunately, someone with the "rental company" was on site and qas able to quickly switched cars for us. It wasn't a hybrid, though. We didn't plan on a lot of driving, but originally opted for a hybrid to save money since we had two days of freeway driving. We definitely spent more on gas then originally planned. If there wasn't someone available onsite to help, it could have been a much longer ordeal which is a terrible way to start a vacation. Communication day of pick up felt slow with the owner. I didn't think to look back to the 2 month old message about how to find the car. I received a message from Turo saying we'd be sent details the day before the trip. I never got that confirmation text or measage the day before or day of pick up from the actual rental owner. When I first reached out to the rental company through the turo app to find the car at pick up time, I didn't get a response. I finally found a way to text someone about 20 minutes later. We did get a pretty quick response that way, but it's frustrating to be in a random parking lot messaging through an app and not get a response. The Honda interior is definitely cleaner than the hybrid we reserved, but the exterior, not so much. Its been side swiped and has a lot of sun damage. The TPMS light was on the whole time, but the actual tire pressure was fine. There was also a rattle and grinding noise when accelerating from a stop or on a hill, but it didn't cause an issue. The car drives fine for a 14-15 year old car, it's just a little noisy and you feel all the bumps on the road. I understand with the cheaper cost of renting through Turo amd choosing a 12-15 year old car, I'm not getting a newer car like I would with a standard rental company or paying more for a newer car. That said, with my last few Turo rentals, it feels a lot of these Turo "rental companies" aren't checking their cars or doing much more than standard maintenance as frequently as they should when they have over 150,000 miles on them. The confirmation message also suggested the cars are kept in great shape. These cars were not in great shape by any stretch of the imagination. No one wants to be on vacation and have their car break down or even be worried that the car they're driving is gonna get a flat or break down.

This 2023 Honda Civic was a good car to drive! Nice place to pick up the car if you choose his home pick up address. The car was clean and smelled nice. On the road it was sturdy and felt very reliable. Host is very responsive. And allowed me to drop off the car earlier than my drop off time. Would definitely rent again.

So I didn't know what the hell i was doing. I never bothered to read the instructions on how to start the rental or pick up instructions or any of that non sense. I just looked for the address and assumed I would find the car i rented at that address with the keys locked inside the car. I figured the app would have a button to push to open the door and bam I'd be on my way. So when I showed up to the address and couldn't find the car I was kinda missed cuz I had to be in LA by 2pm and it was now 11:30am. So I hit the help button and it opened what I thought was a chat to the owner. "hey man your car ain't here and I gotta go? Where is it??" Eventually I found some beater up the road a little way and I start taking pictures cuz I think oh man I rented this piece of sh** hell no, owners gonna say I did all this damage, I just know he will. So as I'm documenting the damage and sending the pics thru the app I notice the license plate had the wrong letters and numbers and bout that time some poor innocent comes out and says please don't take my car I need it for work I promise I'll pay what I owe you guys tomorrow, Friday is payday. As bad as I wanted to play along and demand something, 20 bucks or a 6 pack or something, I said my bad. I thought you were Turo and this was the van I rented. I'm not taking it. meanwhile I already uploaded the images to turn so by now the owner of the van I'm looking for is probably tripping. Anyway, the guy that thought I was the repo man was smiling again and I told him your wrong man that was some racial profiling you just did on me. Why I gotta be the repo man for? Just cuz I'm the white guy with the yarmulke on and the only pale face as far as the eye can see? Dude hurt my feelings but he was smiling now. So then I finally get a call and its the dude im looking for. he's like you got the app? yeah why, I says Cuz I've been messaging you since yesterday to set this all up and then today I've replied to every message you sent demanding to know where the car is. I didn't get em I said. then he tells me where to get the keys at cuz the van is one street over just like the instructions said. Well I didn't see no instructions. I lied. I saw them but I never read em. so then I go over to the lock box and with my clumsy hands I put the code in wrong. "do this so that' he says. supposedly that resets the thing. "it ain't working bro, I gotta go bro I'm late" Without missing a beat he says "I'll be there ASAP. maybe 10 min tho" I'll be here a mumbled. like 7 long ass minutes later here he comes. " Let me see your phone". here man and I hand it over. "I got this same phone, if you can't see good unfold it that's what that big ass screen is for".. Yea i know I say so what. He hands me back my phone and says look. sure as I was standing there so were a bunch of messages all with clear step by step instructions on what I needed to do. The reason I told you all this is to demonstrate just what a bone head I was today and even tho dude had every reason to cancel the rental or at minimum talk smack to me, he didn't. instead he was patient and polite and helpful. dude walked me to the van and wished me a safe drive. then I brought the van back an hour late tonight but when he saw me he was once again helpful and kind. He had every reason to treat me like I was some J Cat wasting his time but he didn't. The truth is I had a lot going on. I was dealing with lots of stress including a tragedy with in my personal life and the owner of this van had the opportunity to rain on my day further or try to help me out. knowing nothing about what I was going thru he chose to be a blessing in my life today. Thank you Don's Oddesy rental, you were great and I appreciate you a lot.

Great experience with this Honda CR-V Hybrid. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, fuel-efficient, and drove smoothly throughout the trip. Accord was responsive and made the rental process easy. Would definitely rent again!

To be honest, this was the first time using Turo, and I was more than a little hesitant. They couldn’t drop the car off at the San Diego airport, as per Turo rules, so they would leave the address of car location the day before our trip. 😅 Buuuuttt, I have to say, even with my apprehension, this was the easiest car rental experience I have EVER had, hands down! While my brother in law waited in line for 45 min to get his rental, we were off creating adventures within minutes. Not to mention it was a fraction of the price of an ordinary rental car. The car was .8 miles from the airport in an easy to find, secure location. It literally took a couple minutes to snap photos of the car, get into key lockbox, and we were off. The host was incredibly helpful and super easy to work with. We will definitely be using Turo in the future and highly recommend this host if you are in the San Diego area.

The car was perfect! Very clean, excellent working condition and had every feature one could expect in a modern car (radar cruise control, lane keep assist, auto emergency braking, CarPlay etc). The host replied to any messages within 5 minutes or less, even with a late night/early morning pickup time. My only gripe is that Honda decided to use a CVT transmission on the new accords! Haha, can’t win em all I guess 💁‍♂️

This was a nice and easy process. Clean car and perfect for my family fit all our luggage with no problem. Would rent from smooth again.

Great van - perfect for our family of 7. They included car seats for a small fee. Worked out great!

We were very pleased with Larry's minivan. Larry was flexible and helpful during the car pickup. We have a large family and a lot of luggage, and we were unfamiliar with the area. We ended up on the wrong side of the tracks, which would have required a short walk with stairs to reach where he had initially parked. He was very understanding and drove to our location instead of the agreed-upon pickup spot. The car was well-maintained, had a full tank of gas, 8 seats, and a spacious trunk.

Pickup location was easily accessible, car was clean and ran with no issues. Pretty good on gas too. Host was very responsive. Would rent from them again.

I had a great experience renting this car. I did run into some issues on my end because I didn’t fully understand how to use the app at first, so I had to change the delivery times a couple of times — that was completely my mistake. Despite that, their customer service was amazing. They were always available, very responsive, and helped me every step of the way, explaining everything clearly and patiently no matter the time. If you’re planning to rent a car, I definitely recommend going with them. Don’t hesitate and rent whit them . Thank you 🙏🏽
