Real big problem, if this is how new and nice a van will be, then every other Turo rental will suck! I rented Nov/25 and this thing had like 5000 miles on it. Amazing condition. Super easy to pickup and drop off. The family loved it.

Top tips for renting a van in Phoenix

Phoenix is built for the open road, but navigating the city in a larger vehicle takes some finesse. Whether you’ve booked a minivan for family convenience or a passenger van for a weekend with friends, these tips will help you handle the metro area like a pro.

Tips for driving a van in Phoenix

Vans handle differently than smaller cars, so give yourself a little time to adjust. Passenger vans and cargo vans often have more height — keep an eye out for low-clearance garages and underpasses. On highways around Phoenix AZ, allow extra stopping distance and be mindful when merging into heavy traffic.

What is parking a van like in Phoenix?

Parking a van in Phoenix can be surprisingly straightforward thanks to the city’s wide streets and sprawling lots. That said, downtown garages and certain residential areas may have height restrictions. For larger vans or cargo vehicles, stick to surface lots or designated oversized parking to avoid additional fees or awkward squeezes.

How to choose the right type of van for your Phoenix trip

Choosing the right vehicle depends on your plans. Passenger vans are perfect for hauling the whole family to the Desert Botanical Garden or on a road trip to Las Vegas. Cargo vans shine on moving day, offering ample cargo space without unnecessary seats. For budget-friendly flexibility, a minivan balances room, convenience, and cost.

Loading a cargo van

Loading a cargo van requires a little strategy. Place heavy items on the bottom, use straps to secure them, and stack lighter belongings on top. Keep essentials like snacks, bags, or tools near the sliding doors so they’re easy to grab along the way, and always check the van’s maximum load capacity before setting off.

Gas stations and EV chargers in Phoenix

Gas stations are plentiful across the Phoenix metro area, especially along main highways and near PHX Airport. If your van runs on diesel (common for some larger passenger vans and cargo vans), make sure you’re using the correct pump. EV chargers are growing in number around downtown Phoenix and Scottsdale, though electric van options are still less common in the fleet compared to traditional models.

On each trip, you’re covered with third-party automobile liability insurance provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company.*

In New York state, you’ll also choose between Premier (if available), Standard, or Minimum. With each plan, you’re covered with liability insurance of $1,250,000.* Protection plans for New York trips also include access to roadside assistance, priority phone support, and 24/7 customer assistance.

Can other people drive the car that I rented?

Yes, multiple guests can drive the car you rent on Turo, as long as they are all approved to drive. The primary driver (whoever rented the car) can add additional drivers with no fees or additional charges. Only the primary driver can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do it for you. We encourage you to request to add additional drivers before your trip starts, though guests can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress.

To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. You can request to add drivers via the “Trips” tab in the Turo app without additional driver charges or extra costs.

Cargo vans offer durability and room for moving day or logistics, while the city’s wide selection ensures there’s always a vehicle to match your journey.

The policy does not provide coverage for damage to a host’s vehicle.
