Peugeot BOXER 2023

Chicago offers world-class attractions easily accessible by rental car, from the magnificent Millennium Park to the vibrant Navy Pier entertainment complex. You can explore the historic Magnificent Mile shopping district, visit the renowned Art Institute, or drive along the scenic Lake Michigan shoreline. Having a cargo van rental provides flexibility to transport purchases from local markets, move equipment for events, or access venues across the city's 77 distinct neighborhoods without relying on public transportation schedules.

The Loop downtown business district

The Loop serves as Chicago's central business hub, featuring towering skyscrapers, corporate headquarters, and the famous Chicago Theatre district. You'll find convenient loading zones and parking structures throughout the area, making cargo van access manageable for business deliveries. The district connects easily to major highways, allowing efficient travel to other Chicago neighborhoods and suburban areas.

Lincoln Park neighborhood charm

Lincoln Park combines residential streets with the expansive lakefront park of the same name, offering tree-lined avenues and the popular Lincoln Park Zoo. The neighborhood features accessible parking areas and wide streets suitable for cargo van navigation. You can easily reach this area from downtown Chicago while enjoying views of Lake Michigan along the scenic Lake Shore Drive.

Navy Pier entertainment destination

Navy Pier extends into Lake Michigan as Chicago's premier entertainment venue, hosting festivals, exhibitions, and cultural events year-round. Top tips for renting a cargo van in Chicago

Book your cargo van rental early on Turo to secure the best vehicle for your Chicago business needs, especially during peak moving seasons or major city events. Look for essential features like backup cameras for navigating tight urban spaces, all-wheel drive for winter weather conditions, and keyless entry for convenient loading and unloading. Consider cargo van rentals with additional equipment like moving blankets or tie-down straps to protect your items during transport through Chicago's bustling streets.

Frequently asked questions in Chicago

What cargo van size works best for Chicago moves?

Standard cargo van rentals with 250-350 cubic feet of space handle most Chicago residential moves effectively. These vehicles navigate the city's narrow streets and tight parking spaces while providing ample room for furniture and boxes. Larger cargo van rentals work best for multi-bedroom apartments, while smaller vans suit studio and one-bedroom relocations in Chicago neighborhoods.

How to pack efficiently in a cargo van?

Load heavy items like appliances and furniture first against the van's front wall, then stack lighter boxes on top to maximize space. Use moving blankets to protect surfaces and prevent cargo from shifting during Chicago's stop-and-go traffic. Fill gaps with soft items like pillows and clothing to create a secure, stable load in your rental vehicle.

How to drive cargo van rentals in Chicago traffic?

Allow extra following distance since cargo van rentals require more stopping time than regular cars, especially on busy streets like Lake Shore Drive. Check your mirrors frequently and take wider turns to account for the vehicle's increased length and reduced visibility. Plan your route to avoid low-clearance areas and narrow residential streets where possible in Chicago.

How to safely move heavy furniture with cargo van rentals?

Use a dolly or furniture straps to lift heavy pieces into the cargo van rental, keeping your back straight and lifting with your legs. Secure all furniture with tie-down straps or rope to prevent movement during transport through Chicago's varied terrain. Position heavy items against the van's walls and use padding to prevent damage during your rental period.

How to secure items in cargo van rentals?

Install cargo nets or use ratchet straps to anchor boxes and furniture to the van's tie-down points along the walls and floor. Layer items strategically with heavier pieces on bottom and fragile items wrapped in blankets or bubble wrap. Double-check all restraints before driving, as Chicago's frequent stops and turns can cause unsecured cargo to shift dangerously.

What are cargo van rental weight limits?

Most standard cargo van rentals support 3,000-4,000 pounds of payload, including passengers and fuel weight. Check your specific rental vehicle's documentation for exact limits, as exceeding capacity affects braking and handling on Chicago streets. Distribute weight evenly throughout the van's cargo area to maintain proper balance and avoid overloading the rear axle during your move.

In most cases, you'll get approved immediately, and you'll be set for all future road trips, day trips, and business trips!

How does car rental insurance work on Turo?

On each trip, you're covered with third-party automobile liability insurance provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company.* In New York state, you'll also choose between Premier (if available), Standard, or Minimum.
