I had an excellent experience renting through Turo. The vehicle was clean, well-maintained, and exactly as described in the listing. The host was professional, responsive, and made both pickup and drop-off simple and convenient. The entire process was smooth from start to finish, and the car drove perfectly throughout my trip. I appreciated the clear communication and attention to detail, which made the rental stress-free. I would definitely rent from this host again and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable and enjoyable rental experience.

The drop off/pick up service is awesome. There was no need to pay for a car service in order to pickup/drop off the Turo rental. Car arrived on time. I was able to extend the duration of my trip. Car drove well. It is comfortable. It was surprisingly pretty good on gas as well. I would recommend this host.

If u traveling, this is a great pick. This is the the first car I rented that came with some thought for the customer. The last couple times I hit like 6 to 8 tolls heading there and back all together at 4.50 a piece on my trip. And I think it adds an hour to avoid tolls. If only you could see the smile after confusion on my face as they told me ( your good have nice day) when I noticed an ezpass on the windshield that moved this host to top of my list. This the first rental to help me save money. I will definitely be using again. This guy is a great and smart host. Thank you

Last minute rental after my planned host had to cancel. Pickup location and directions were incredibly easy, not far from main campus. I had to drive to Cleveland and back the vehicle performed well for its age. Gas mileage was bonus, great fuel economy. The host is incredibly easy to communicate with. I'd definitely rent again.

Top tips for renting a car in Columbus

Renting a car in Columbus is pretty straightforward, but knowing a few local basics makes the experience much smoother. From freeway driving to parking downtown, a little preparation helps you get around with confidence.

What are the road rules and driving conditions in Columbus?

Columbus is an easy city to drive in, with wide roads and well-connected freeways like I-70, I-71, and I-270 linking the city and surrounding suburbs. Drivers stay on the right-hand side, and speed limits are posted in miles per hour. Downtown traffic can get busy during weekday rush hours, especially around the Short North and Ohio State University areas, so allow extra time if you’re driving during peak periods. Winter can also bring snow and icy roads, so checking conditions ahead of time is important if you’re visiting in colder months.

What is parking like in Columbus?

Parking in Columbus is generally easier than in larger US cities, though it can get busy in popular areas like the Short North, Downtown, and around Ohio State University during events or game days. Street parking is available in many neighborhoods, with plenty of metered spots and public garages offering reasonable daily rates. Areas like the Arena District and German Village also have nearby parking lots, but weekends and evenings can fill up quickly, so arriving a little earlier helps. Outside the city center, parking is usually simple and often free.

Are there toll roads in Columbus?

There are no major toll roads within Columbus itself, so most everyday driving around the city is toll-free. If you’re heading further across Ohio or planning a longer road trip, you may come across the Ohio Turnpike in the northern part of the state, which is a toll road commonly used for travel toward places like Cleveland or Toledo. Around Columbus, though, you generally won’t need to worry about toll charges.

Are there gas stations and EV chargers in Columbus?

Yes, both are easy to find throughout Columbus. Standard gas stations like UDF Gas Station, Shell, and BP are spread across downtown, the university area, and major freeway routes, with many open late or 24 hours depending on location.

If you’re driving an EV, Columbus has strong charging coverage, too. PlugShare reports more than 1,300 public charging stations in the city, including over 200 DC fast chargers. Fast-charging options include EVgo Charging Station downtown, Tesla Supercharger in Grandview, and additional chargers around places like Easton Town Center and the Polaris area. The Ohio State University also has multiple Level 2 charging stations on campus, so whether you’re driving a gas vehicle or electric, refueling is pretty straightforward.

Do I need to rent a car in Columbus?

Yes, renting a car in Columbus is the easiest way to make the most of your trip — and with Turo's marketplace, there are plenty of rental locations available for pick up. While some central areas like Downtown and the Short North are walkable, most of the city’s best attractions, shopping areas, and neighborhoods are spread out and much easier to reach by car. Public transportation is limited compared to bigger cities, so having your own vehicle gives you far more flexibility — whether you’re heading to the Columbus Zoo, exploring beyond the city, or fitting more into a short stay.

How does car rental insurance work on Turo?

No, you don’t need personal insurance coverage to rent a car on Turo.

In the US, any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host’s vehicle would kick in before your Turo protection plan. When booking a car in the US, you’ll choose between three protection plans — Premier (eligibility requirements apply), Standard, or Minimum — to get the level of protection that’s right for you. On each trip, you’re covered with third-party automobile liability insurance provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company.*

In New York state, you’ll also choose between Premier (if available), Standard, or Minimum. With each plan, you’re covered with liability insurance of $1,250,000.* Protection plans for New York trips also include access to roadside assistance, priority phone support, and 24/7 customer assistance.

Can other people drive the car that I rented?

Yes, multiple guests can drive the car you rent on Turo, as long as they are all approved to drive. The primary driver (whoever rented the car) can add additional drivers with no fees or additional charges. Only the primary driver can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do it for you. We encourage you to request to add additional drivers before your trip starts, though guests can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress.

To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. You can request to add drivers via the “Trips” tab in the Turo app without additional driver charges or extra costs.

* Any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host’s vehicle would kick in before your protection plan, except in limited situations for trips booked in Maryland, but this protects your own wallet. In the US, liability insurance is provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company. Terms, conditions, and exclusions apply. The policy does not provide coverage for damage to a host’s vehicle.

For questions or information about the third party liability insurance that is included in protection plans, consumers in Maryland and the licensed states listed here may contact Turo Insurance Agency at (415) 508-0283 or claims@turo.agency. For questions about how damage to a host’s vehicle is handled, visit the Turo Support site.
