You'll find the parking spot location on the Turo app. Once you land, simply exit baggage claim, head to the parking area, and find your car. Inside, you’ll find a ticket to exit the lot and you’re good to go. For in-person handoffs, meet your host in the Surface Lot and use Location Sharing on the app to save time.
When returning your car rental, head back to the airport parking lot no earlier than four hours before your trip ends, or as allowed by the permit.
Leave the parking ticket in the vehicle and message your host via the app with the location, including the section and stall numbers. Be sure to lock the car and place the keys in the lockbox.
If you're dropping off your car rental in person, head to the Surface Lot, stay with your car until your host arrives, hand over the keys, and you're all set.
Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is about 6 miles south of downtown, making it a quick 10-minute drive.
In Milwaukee, always buckle up, have your driver’s license handy, and follow the usual US traffic light rules.
Keep an eye out for high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes marked with a white diamond sign. Some will have a number like HOV4, which indicates how many people need to be in the car to use the lane.
When driving, always yield to pedestrians at crosswalks, cyclists in bike lanes, and cars that arrive at a four-way stop before you. If you get there at the same time as another car, give way to the one on your right.
Leave 20 feet of space for school buses that are loading or unloading, or when their lights are flashing. And if driving past a public or private school, slow down to 15 mph.
A few more speed limits to note:
- Within city limits: 35 mph
- Highways outside city limits: 55 mph
- Interstates, freeways, and expressways: 65 mph
Parking in Milwaukee is easy to navigate, with metered street parking, parking garages, and some free options available, making renting a car hassle-free. Street parking is usually metered from 6 AM to 9 PM, while parking lots are available in certain areas. Be sure to check posted signs for time restrictions.

None — so there is no need to pay tolls electronically unless heading beyond Wisconsin.
Milwaukee has plenty of gas stations in convenient locations throughout the city. Local fuel prices fluctuate, so keep an eye out for competing prices once you're on the road. With over 100 EV charging ports, many of which are free, these are also easy to come by.
A few spots to park and charge your electric rental car include:
- ChargePoint at Schlitz Park – 1555 N River Center Dr
- ChargePoint at 833 E Michigan St – Downtown Milwaukee
Milwaukee’s downtown is walkable and well-covered by The Hop streetcar and local buses, but if you're planning to bounce between beaches, parks, and neighborhoods, public transport can fall short. Renting a car gives you the freedom to cruise at your own pace, carry your personal belongings with ease — especially handy for families — and make the most of every stop along the way.
