This was hands down the best car rental experience I’ve ever had! The car was exceptionally clean and in excellent condition. The customer service was phenomenal, and she even provided snacks and drinks, which was such a thoughtful touch. Everything was smooth from start to finish. I highly recommend renting from her…you won’t be disappointed!

I had a very good experience with this car rental. The vehicle was exceptionally clean, both inside and out, which I highly appreciated. The rental agent was also incredibly attentive, polite, and helpful throughout the process. The only area for improvement would be the pickup and drop-off instructions; a bit more detailed information would have made finding and returning the car in the parking lot much smoother. Overall, a great service that I would recommend!

Nissan Altima 2017

I had an excellent experience renting this 2017 Nissan Altima. Everything about the trip went smoothly, and the vehicle was exactly what I needed. The owner was outstanding when it came to communication and was always quick to respond whenever I had questions, which made the entire process stress-free and enjoyable. With gas prices being higher these days, one thing I truly appreciated was the Altima’s great fuel mileage. It was perfect for my trip and helped me travel comfortably without constantly worrying about fuel costs. Overall, this was a great rental experience from start to finish, and I would definitely rent from this owner again. Highly recommended!

Great car and easy pickup. The only issue was the front right tire was low on air at pickup, so I had to fill it during my trip. Otherwise, everything was smooth and I enjoyed the rental.

I had a great experience renting this car! It was clean, drove smoothly, and was very spacious—more than enough room for my two suitcases. The pickup and drop-off instructions were clear and easy to follow, making the entire process stress-free. The owners were incredibly accommodating and responsive. My flight arrived an hour early, and they were kind enough to allow me to pick up the car ahead of schedule without any hassle. Top tips for renting a car in Houston

Houston stretches across more than 600 square miles of freeway, bayou and Texas-sized ambition. A few local pointers keep your rental car experience smooth from the moment you step off the plane at Houston George Bush Intercontinental to the moment you hand the keys back.

How does airport pickup work at Houston Airport?

After landing at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), grab your bags at baggage claim and head to the ground transportation area on level 1. From there, board the shuttle bus to the approved Turo parking facility on Kennedy Blvd. Look for the white buses marked for the facility and let the driver know you're a Turo guest. You'll find the exact vehicle location in the Turo app before you land. For in-person handoffs, international passengers and domestic arrivals alike can meet at Terminal A's Ride App pickup zone at Door A-114 for a quick curbside exchange.

How does drop-off work at Houston Airport?

Returning your rental car at Houston Airport is just as straightforward. Drive back to the approved parking facility, follow signs to the designated return area, and park the vehicle. Pull a new parking ticket and leave it in the car with the keys, then lock up and message in the Turo app with the final location. The shuttle service runs back to the terminal so you can head straight to your gate.

How far is Houston Airport from Downtown Houston?

George Bush Intercontinental Airport sits about 23 miles north of downtown Houston, roughly 25 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. The Hardy Toll Road is the quickest route in, while I-45 South is the most direct. Either way, having your own car means you pick up and go without waiting for an airport shuttle or navigating public transportation schedules.

What are the road rules and driving conditions in Houston?

Speed limits on Houston's city streets generally sit at 30 mph, rising to 60 to 70 mph on freeways and up to 75 mph on some stretches of I-10 heading west. Texas law requires all occupants to wear seatbelts, handheld phone use is restricted in school zones, and right turns on red are permitted unless posted otherwise. The city's freeway network is extensive, so follow signs carefully and stay in the right lane for your exit.

Houston's traffic is among the most intense in the country. The I-610 Loop, I-45, US-290 and the Katy Freeway (I-10 West) all build heavy congestion between 6:30 and 9:00 am and again from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. The interchange where I-45 meets I-610 is notoriously slow during rush hour. If you're heading to or from Houston Airport during peak times, budget an extra 20 to 30 minutes and consider the Hardy Toll Road as a faster alternative. Pickup trucks are everywhere on Houston roads, so keep your mirrors clear and give larger vehicles extra space.

Summer in Houston brings heat, humidity and afternoon thunderstorms that can flood low-lying underpasses in minutes. Flash flooding is a genuine hazard, and the local rule is simple: turn around, don't drown. Keep headlights on in the rain, avoid standing water on the road, and check Houston TranStar for real-time conditions before longer drives. The cheapest month to rent a car in Houston tends to fall in January or February, when visitor numbers dip and the weather is mild.

What is parking like in Houston?

Downtown Houston has a strong network of parking garages, with ParkHouston managing meters and several multi-level structures across the city center. The Theater District Parking Garage and the Market Square Garage are popular choices near major attractions. Midtown and the Museum District also have garages and metered street parking, though spots can fill quickly during events.

Outside downtown, parking is generally easier. Shopping centers, restaurants and suburban attractions tend to have dedicated lots with plenty of room. If you rent a car through Turo, use the app to confirm any residential parking restrictions that may apply.

Are there toll roads in Houston?

Houston has several tolled highways, including the Sam Houston Tollway (Beltway 8), the Hardy Toll Road, the Westpark Tollway, the Fort Bend Tollway and the Grand Parkway (SH 99). All are electronically tolled with no cash booths, so you'll need a toll pass or EZ TAG. Check the Turo app to see how tolls are handled for your vehicle.

Where can I find gas stations and EV chargers in Houston?

Gas stations are everywhere in Houston. Shell, Chevron, Valero and Buc-ee's locations line every major highway, with clusters along I-45, I-10, US-290 and the feeder roads surrounding Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). You'll never struggle to find fuel in this city.

If you rent a car through Turo that runs on electricity, Houston's EV charging network is expanding fast. Tesla Superchargers sit at locations including the Galleria area, Katy Mills and near the Energy Corridor. Electrify America and ChargePoint stations are spread through shopping centers and hotel parking garages across the metro. For an electric luxury SUV or any EV, plan your stops using PlugShare before heading out, especially for longer drives outside the city.

Do I need to rent a car in Houston?

Houston's public transportation covers some inner-city routes, but this is a city built for driving. The Johnson Space Center, Galveston's Gulf Coast beaches, the San Jacinto Battleground and the sprawling suburbs where some of the best barbecue and Tex-Mex joints hide are all well beyond the reach of the METRORail. Shuttles depart from George Bush Intercontinental to a handful of hotels, but beyond that you're on your own. Rent a car through Turo at Houston Airport and you control the schedule, the route and how far the adventure stretches. From the Museum District to Kemah Boardwalk to a weekend road trip across the Hill Country, your own wheels turn Houston from a stopover into a destination.

What rental car types can I find on Turo in Houston?

Houston's wide-open freeways, sprawling suburbs and Gulf Coast road trips call for a car that fits the scale of this city. Choose from the following vehicle classes on Turo, including, but not limited to:

- SUV rental: The most popular car class in Texas for good reason. A Chevy Tahoe or Toyota 4Runner handles the beach run to Galveston and Houston's freeway network with room to spare.

- Luxury car rental: Arrive at a River Oaks dinner or Galleria event in a full size luxury sedan like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, polished against Houston's glittering skyline.

- Performance sport car rental: A Ford Mustang GT or Dodge Challenger turns heads on Westheimer Road and sounds even better echoing through the downtown tunnels.

- Electric car rental: An electric luxury sedan like the Tesla Model S or an electric luxury SUV like the Model X makes the Energy Corridor commute seamless with HOV access and Superchargers across the metro.

- Truck rental: This is Texas. A Ford F-150 fits right in and handles everything from a Hill Country weekend to hauling gear. Full size cars and trucks dominate the road here.

- Van rental: Groups heading to NRG Stadium, brewery tours or airport transfers will appreciate the space of a van. Room for everyone, no second trips.

How much does it cost to rent a car in Houston?

The cost of car rental in Houston can vary depending on car type, booking length, extras, and delivery. For cheap car rentals in Houston, look out for discounts on longer-duration bookings and early bookings.
