Lowest drag in the industry

Tesla refines the SUV with the Model X, iterating on its design for maximum aerodynamics. The Tesla Model X's drag coefficient of 0.24 Cd makes it the lowest-drag SUV on the market. Combine that with new wheels and better handling, and you have a rental car steeped in elegance wherever the road takes you.

Creature comforts

The future is nothing without comfort. Rent a Tesla Model X, and that's exactly what you'll get. A heated steering wheel keeps you toasty on last-minute winter trips, while the climate control AC keeps you cool in the heat of summer. The telescoping steering wheel gives you the perfect position to steer, no matter how you like it.

Expand your viewpoint

Tesla's exacting design standards don't just lend the Model X aerodynamic goodness; they impact every element of this vehicle, from the steering wheel to your windshield. A combo windshield/roof opens up more visibility than the competition so that you can experience the night sky, gorgeous sunsets, and dramatic rainstorms better than ever before.

Take electricity for a spin with the Tesla Model X

The Model X is far from the only electric SUV, but with more power and acceleration than others in its class, it's an electric car worth renting. Take advantage of the Tesla Supercharger network in your rental location, and your battery will take you as far as you need to go.

Supercharged electric vehicle

Tesla grants you access to more than 60,000 Tesla Superchargers en route to many popular destinations around the United States. Rent a Tesla Model X, and you can charge it more than halfway with just 15 minutes on a supercharger to get back on the road faster than ever. Whether it's a client meeting or a car rental for your next family vacation, you'll have a network that'll help you get there.

Range and power, together

The Model X will always deliver an impressive driving range, no matter the configuration, but the electric car company still gives you choices. Go for the base all-wheel drive model on your Tesla rental for a range of 329 miles, more than enough to get from Manhattan to Boston on a single charge. Take the Plaid trim for a spin from your rental location to get a whopping 1,020 horsepower at your disposal, sacrificing just a few miles for a range of 314 miles per charge.

Yoke-style steering

Gone is the steering wheel of old. The Tesla Model X offers a rectangular, yoke-style steering column in place of the standard wheel. Live out your drag race or fighter pilot dreams with the stylish controls and the Model X's power. If you prefer, the traditional wheel is still available and you'll find it in some cars on Turo, letting you choose your own adventure.

Absolutely great experience with Mykyta's Tesla. He helped me in a horrible situation dealing a late reservation request and allowed me to extend my reservation while I was working in town. I'd recommend him 100000% and will definitely be using him again.

Tesla Model X 2016

The car was clean inside and out. I did hear a lot of screeching noise as if new breaks needed or a lot of dust build up. The mileage I got wasn’t that great as I would drive from LA to Palmdale and lose about 50-60% of the charge. I didn’t end up going down to San Diego with it as planned, but definitely gave my son the experience he wanted on a Tesla. Host was very nice and responsive. Thanks!

Top tips and things to know before renting a Model X

Get ready for a futuristic drive

With an unusual, yoke-style steering wheel and surprising power from all-electric motors, the Model X throws you into the future of automobiles. The future brings change, though, and you'll likely need to adjust to these futuristic features. Here are some tips for getting around in your Tesla car rental.

Tesla Model X driving tips

- The yoke-style steering wheel may evoke dogfights and drag races, but there's more to it. Take advantage of the larger field of vision the shorter wheel gives you for maximum safety.

- Try out the convenient one-pedal driving mode. In this mode, you don't need to touch the brakes unless there's an emergency; instead, the Model X takes the kinetic energy you'd use to brake and reroutes it into the battery for added mileage. Take care - it takes some getting used to because you decelerate as soon as you take your foot off the pedal, but it can make for a smoother drive.

- The folding rear seat provides extra space for luggage, groceries, and other cargo. Plus, the Falcon Wing doors open straight up for easier entry and loading.

How much does it cost to rent a Tesla Model X?

The cost of a Tesla Model X car rental can vary depending on the model variant, booking length, extras, and delivery. For a cheap Model X rental, look out for potential discounts on longer-duration bookings and early bookings.

What kind of license do I need to rent a car on Turo?

Turo accepts valid licenses (not expired, suspended, or revoked) that allow for full driving privileges; this includes driver’s licenses issued outside of the US. Licenses that Turo doesn’t accept in the US include any that have expired, have been altered, are conditional, probational, provisional, or restricted. Learner’s permit/instruction permits are not accepted.

How does car rental insurance work on Turo?

No, you don’t need personal insurance coverage to rent a car on Turo.

In the US, any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host’s vehicle would kick in before your Turo protection plan. When booking a car in the US, you’ll choose between three protection plans — Premier (eligibility requirements apply), Standard, or Minimum — to get the level of protection that’s right for you. On each trip, you’re covered with third-party automobile liability insurance provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company.*

In New York state, you’ll also choose between Premier (if available), Standard, or Minimum. With each plan, you’re covered with liability insurance of $1,250,000.* Protection plans for New York trips also include access to roadside assistance, priority phone support, and 24/7 customer assistance.

On the vehicle pages, you’ll see the total miles or kilometres you’re allowed to drive under the heading “Distance included.” You can find cars offering unlimited mileage with every trip by using the “Unlimited distance” filter.

Can other people drive the car that I rented?

Yes, multiple guests can drive the car you rent on Turo, as long as they are all approved to drive. The primary driver (whoever rented the car) can add additional drivers with no fees or additional charges. Only the primary driver can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do it for you. We encourage you to request to add additional drivers before your trip starts, though guests can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress.

To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. You can request to add drivers via the “Trips” tab in the Turo app without additional driver charges or extra costs.

  1. * Any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host’s vehicle would kick in before your protection plan, except in limited situations for trips booked in Maryland, but this protects your own wallet. In the US, liability insurance is provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company. Terms, conditions, and exclusions apply. The policy does not provide coverage for damage to a host’s vehicle.

  2. For questions or information about the third party liability insurance for trips in the US, consumers in Maryland and the licensed states listed here may contact Turo Insurance Agency at (415) 508-0283 or claims@turo.agency. For questions about how damage to a host’s vehicle is handled, visit the Turo Support site. When a trip is booked in the state of Washington, physical damage to the host’s vehicle is covered by insurance purchased by Turo, but the Turo insurance does not change the contractual responsibilities of hosts or guests with respect to physical damage to a host’s vehicle.
