Absolutely amazing experience from start to finish! The car was spotless, well-maintained, and drove perfectly the entire trip. Communication was excellent—every question was answered promptly, and the whole rental process was smooth and stress-free. There were no issues at all, which made the experience even better. I also love supporting women-owned businesses, especially women of color who are building and succeeding in their industries. It was a pleasure renting from Bria, and I would definitely book again. Highly recommend!

The host was nice, the car was smaller than expected but got us to and from our destination. The host was responsive and addressed any issues that were had. He made sure to address any concerns to assure we were satisfied.

Friendly, fun, and filled with things to do, Charlotte is a prime spot for a laid-back vacation or a fuss-free weekend getaway. It's quite the sporting hub, with games year-round and a love of NASCAR that fuels excitement amongst locals and tourists alike. You've also got ample parks, restaurants, hikes, and museums to discover, both in Queen City itself and in other parts of beautiful North Carolina.
Rent the perfect car
No trip to Charlotte is complete without attending at least one sporting game. Home to three major league sports teams — the NFL's Carolina Panthers, the MBA's Charlotte Hornets, and the MLS's Charlotte FC — there's never a shortage of sports to watch, whether you take in the action up close or keep things chill at a local sports bar.
Outdoorsy types will revel in the lineup of activities available at the U.S. National Whitewater Center, one of Charlotte's crowning tourism jewels. The Center features man-made rapids where you can learn to whitewater raft or brush up on your existing skills, as well as hiking and running trails, and opportunities to rock climb, kayak, canoe, rappel, ice skate, and mountain bike. The U.S. National Whitewater Center is located in western Charlotte, just a 10-minute drive from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT).
If you love the sound of screeching tires, slamming brakes, and revving engines, you won't want to miss the NASCAR Hall of Fame on your trip to Charlotte. This sport has become the city's unofficial pastime, and rightly so — it's home to the Charlotte Motor Speedway, where NASCAR races are held regularly. At the Hall of Fame, you can explore seasonal exhibits dedicated to the sport and its drivers, pore over NASCAR "artifacts", and even try your hand at racing in a NASCAR simulator.
While Charlotte still has a small-town feel, it's actually quite a large city — the 16th most populous in the US, according to recent reports. Having a reliable rental car will give you the freedom to zip around the city as much as you like, and avoid bustling public transit when you're in a rush. With these top Charlotte car rental tips in mind, you'll be ready to hit the roads of Charlotte with confidence.
Retrieving rental cars at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) is simple when you use Turo. Instead of waiting around at the rental counter or signing complex rental contracts, chat with your host before landing in Charlotte to confirm your pick-up location from one of the following parking garages: Long Term Parking Lots 1 and 2, the Daily Parking Decks, the Hourly Parking Deck, or Express Deck Self-Parking.
Follow airport signs to the shuttle bus service, which leaves every 10 to 15 minutes from outside the Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) baggage claim area. The shuttle bus services the Express Deck Self-Parking and Long-Term Parking Lots 1 and 2. The Daily Parking Decks and the Hourly Parking Deck are located within walking distance of the terminal.
Exit the parking garage using the ticket provided by your Turo host, and you'll be on your way to exploring the Queen City on four wheels.
Before you fly out, check the Turo app to confirm the drop-off location for your rental car.
If you're parking the car at the Express Deck Self-Parking, you'll have to book a spot in advance online. Once you arrive at the entrance, wait a few seconds and the scanner will read your license plate before opening the boom gate.
Otherwise, simply return the vehicle to one of the approved parking locations at Charlotte Douglas International Airport and take a ticket when you enter the parking garage. Leave your ticket inside the car so your host can safely exit. Don't forget to use Turo messaging to inform your host of your return.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) is located roughly 10 miles west of Charlotte's city center, known as Uptown because it's slightly elevated compared to surrounding suburbs. In peak traffic, the drive from Charlotte Airport to Uptown may take close to 40 minutes, but when things are quieter, it's a quick 15-minute cruise into all the action.
Charlotte has a reputation for being one of the friendliest cities in the US, so it's no wonder it's enjoyable and relatively relaxed driving here. Of course, you must still adhere to the state's road rules, such as wearing a seat belt at all times, following road signage, carrying a valid driver's license, only using a cellphone on hands-free mode, and adhering to speed limits.
In Charlotte, speed limits range from 20 to 35 miles per hour (mph) in residential areas, to 70 mph on rural freeways.
Like most states in the US, North Carolina has a handful of unique driving rules. For example, when two vehicles approach an intersection, the right-hand vehicle has the right of way. You may make a right turn at a red light unless there's a sign that prohibits this — just ensure you come to a complete stop first. In Charlotte, it's also mandatory to use your headlights when visibility is 400 feet or less.
Weather in Charlotte is mild most of the year, and snowfall for more than a day or two is rare, so you won't need snow tires — just exercise caution while driving in slippery or icy conditions.
Parking in Charlotte, North Carolina is luckily very abundant, so you shouldn't find it hard to source a spot to leave your car rental. There are over 1,200 metered street parking spots spread across city center neighborhoods Uptown and South End.
Charlotte also has a collection of garages conveniently located throughout the city and its outer suburbs. These provide a great option for longer-term parking. In Uptown Charlotte, you'll find a ton of parking garages along major streets like College St, Church St, and Tryon St.
There are two toll roads in the Charlotte, North Carolina area — one on the Monroe Expressway, and the other on the I-77 express lanes. Both tollways are cashless and do not accept payments via major credit cards so they must be paid using a transponder like the NC Quick Pass or via the Bill by Mail system, where drivers receive an invoice for toll charges in the mail.
Filling up your tank or giving your electric vehicle a quick charge is an easy feat in Charlotte. Although your rental car will come ready to drive, there are several convenient gas stations located along West Blvd, a main thoroughfare from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) to the city center and back.
In Uptown Charlotte, gas station options are more limited, however, you shouldn't have a problem finding a Shell, 7-11, Mobil, or Exxon if you venture a mile or two away from the heart of the city.
Electric vehicle charging stations are quickly becoming more prevalent in Charlotte. There's one EV charging station located inside the Charlotte Douglas International Airport at the Daily Parking Deck, as well as a few options on Andrew Jackson Hwy and West Blvd headed Uptown.
Once you leave Charlotte Airport and reach the city proper, you'll find ChargePoint and Blink charging stations on busy streets, including West 3rd St and S Tryon St, N College St and E 6th St, and W 1st St and S Church St by The Mint Museum.
While Charlotte has bus and rail services, the city's public transit network is still growing — so if you're looking to explore without limits, your best bet is a convenient rental car from Turo. For peace of mind throughout your trip to North Carolina, organize your transportation ahead of time with car rental at Charlotte Douglas Airport.
Everyone's driving preferences are different, but we've got reliable vehicles to suit all tastes on Turo. Go big with an electric luxury SUV or a full-size luxury SUV, cruise from A to B in a full-size luxury sedan or premium luxury sedan, experience the fuel-free life in an electric luxury sedan or even a midsize sport luxury sedan, or cart around the whole family in a people mover or even a limo van.
