Top tips for renting a truck in Charlotte

Tips for driving a truck in Charlotte

Make sure that you're used to driving a truck and any equipment that you'll use, such as bungee cords or straps, if you're moving or transporting boxes or furniture. Plan ahead for any truck supplies you'll need for your trip, and make sure you check any height limits or parking restrictions in advance, depending on the model you select.

How to choose the right type of truck for your Charlotte trip

The right truck for your Charlotte adventure depends on the number of passengers you expect to have, the nature of your visit, and how much cargo room you need. If you're just looking to have a great time with a stylish vehicle, then a truck with more leg room and tech features could be ideal. If you're looking to haul items or transport cargo, then you'll want to look for models with enough bed space or weight capacity for your equipment.

If you're using the truck for work purposes, be sure to disclose it's for professional use on the Turo app.

Loading a truck

When you load a truck rental in Charlotte, it's important to consider its load capacity. Plan your layout first, considering where you'll begin your trip and what items you'll need first when you get there. Put anything you'll want immediate access to in the cab.

Load heavier items on the bottom and toward the front of your truck rental to maintain its balance and enjoy a smoother ride. Wrap your delicate items in bubble wrap or blankets, and be sure to use bungee cords, straps, or non-damaging anchors to keep everything nice and secure during your drive.

Gas stations and EV chargers in Charlotte

Charlotte has a nice mixture of gas stations and EV chargers, so it's easy to refuel during your trip. Remember that many trucks take diesel, so you have to use the right fuel type. Check that the gas station you're planning on going to carries the right fuel type to avoid costly drives and risking an empty tank.

Look for larger fuel stations, like Costco and Pilots, which can be easier to navigate with a larger vehicle.

How does car rental insurance work on Turo?

No, you don’t need personal insurance coverage to rent a car on Turo.

In the US, any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host’s vehicle would kick in before your Turo protection plan. When booking a car in the US, you’ll choose between three protection plans — Premier (eligibility requirements apply), Standard, or Minimum — to get the level of protection that’s right for you. On each trip, you’re covered with third-party automobile liability insurance provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company.*

In New York state, you’ll also choose between Premier (if available), Standard, or Minimum. With each plan, you’re covered with liability insurance of $1,250,000.* Protection plans for New York trips also include access to roadside assistance, priority phone support, and 24/7 customer assistance.

Can other people drive the car that I rented?

Yes, multiple guests can drive the car you rent on Turo, as long as they are all approved to drive. The primary driver (whoever rented the car) can add additional drivers with no fees or additional charges. Only the primary driver can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do it for you. We encourage you to request to add additional drivers before your trip starts, though guests can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress.

To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. You can request to add drivers via the “Trips” tab in the Turo app without additional driver charges or extra costs.
