This was my first Turo experience. A car similar to mine, I have the larger version the Atlas. I enjoyed the car, and it was in good shape. Derek was a wonderful host. He made some changes to accommodate my family. He was also very quick to respond to messages. I also enjoyed the extra amenities he leaves for the car such as chargers for Apple CarPlay, & a pair of sunglasses in case you forgot yours 😉

Frequently asked questions in Tivoli

Why choose an SUV for exploring Tivoli's outdoor attractions?

SUVs provide elevated seating that offers excellent views of Tivoli's scenic landscapes and historic sites. The spacious cargo area accommodates hiking gear, picnic supplies, and photography equipment for day trips around New York's Hudson Valley region. Higher ground clearance helps navigate unpaved parking areas at local attractions and trailheads.

How do you handle an SUV on winding mountain roads?

Reduce speed before entering curves and maintain steady acceleration through turns to manage the SUV's higher center of gravity. Use lower gears when descending steep grades to control speed naturally without overusing brakes. Keep both hands on the steering wheel and avoid sudden steering inputs on winding roads near Tivoli.

What makes SUVs ideal for winter driving conditions?

All-wheel drive systems in many SUVs provide better traction on snow and ice common in New York winters. The vehicle's weight distribution and stability control systems help maintain control during challenging weather conditions. Ground clearance allows SUVs to navigate through deeper snow that might challenge smaller rental SUVs.

Which destinations near Tivoli are perfect for SUV adventures?

The Catskill Mountains offer numerous hiking trails and scenic overlooks easily accessible with an SUV rental. Historic estates along the Hudson River feature gravel driveways and parking areas where SUV clearance proves beneficial. State parks throughout the region provide camping and recreational opportunities that suit SUV cargo capacity.

Are compact SUVs better for families or full-size models?

Compact SUVs work well for smaller families exploring Tivoli, offering easier parking in historic downtown areas while maintaining cargo space for luggage. Full-size SUVs accommodate larger groups and provide more comfort for longer drives throughout New York state. Consider your group size and planned activities when choosing between compact and full-size SUV rentals.

What SUV safety features should you know before driving?

Familiarize yourself with blind spot monitoring systems that alert you to vehicles in adjacent lanes during highway driving. Electronic stability control helps prevent rollovers by automatically applying brakes to individual wheels when needed. Backup cameras and parking sensors assist with maneuvering in tight spaces around Tivoli's historic districts and popular attractions.

Is there unlimited mileage car rental on Turo?

Some hosts offer unlimited distance for a trip; others set a daily distance limit — you'll need to check on each rental car individually to see if this service is provided. On the vehicle pages, you'll see the total miles or kilometers you're allowed to drive under the heading "Distance included." You can find cars offering unlimited mileage with every trip by using the "Unlimited distance" filter.

How does car rental insurance work on Turo?

No, you don't need personal insurance coverage to rent a car on Turo. In the US, any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host's vehicle would kick in before your Turo protection plan. When booking a car in the US, you'll choose between three protection plans — Premier (eligibility requirements apply), Standard, or Minimum — to get the level of protection that's right for you. On each trip, you're covered with third-party automobile liability insurance provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company.* In New York state, you'll also choose between Premier (if available), Standard, or Minimum. With each plan, you're covered with liability insurance of $1,250,000.* Protection plans for New York trips also include access to roadside assistance, priority phone support, and 24/7 customer assistance.

What documents and paperwork do I need to rent a car on Turo?

To rent a car on Turo, you must create a Turo account, have a valid driver's license, get approved to drive on Turo, and be 18 years old or older in the US, 21 years old or older in Australia, or 23 years old or older in Canada. In the UK, you must be 21 years old or older and have held a UK or EU license for at least one year, or another driver's license for at least two years. When you're booking your first trip, you'll go through a quick approval process by entering your driver's license and some other information. In most cases, you'll get approved immediately, and you'll be set for all future road trips, day trips, and business trips!
