The whole process of renting a car from Turo is new.All went well from receiving the car to returning the car.Thank you Gerald for the loan of your vehicle.

Vehicle was in very good condition, drove very smoothly, was perfect for the national parks and Custer.

Host was friendly and attentive and came out to me to replace the car battery when it caused a problem! I was even able to extend my trip one day while waiting on their insurance to cover car rental after an accident!

Overall great experience. The Santa Fe was comfortable, had all-wheel drive and virtually spotless. Plus, he provided interior wipes for easy cleanup, a phone charger, window scraper and offered to bring the car to the airport for convenience. Great car for our short trip to Rapid City. Jerry was also very accommodating when I asked to adjust the dates of our reservation. He responded quickly and didn’t make it any more complicated than it needed to be! Will be reaching out to Jerry again with any future trips to the area. Thanks Jerry!

Car was in excellent condition, delivered and picked up at the times requested. Host was very friendly and I would definitely request him in the future.
Great car, excellent customer service from owner!! Will rent again for sure. Kimberly Pentico

The host was amazing. It was the people that I were working for who were awful. This trip has already been canceled and I’m still getting alerts. TURO got to do better thank you again Mike.

Car was great. Exactly what we needed. Room for our family of five and our luggage. Cold AC, great gas mileage. The host brought it right to the curb at the airport and handed us the keys. We hope to rent it again next time we’re in rapid city.
The owner made it really easy for me to rent for the weekend. Would recommend

Jerry was amazing! Probably the best experience renting a car ever! We will rent from him every time we can! So amazing. Car was clean and reliable!
Opting for an SUV rental in Rapid City opens up a world of possibilities for your Black Hills adventure. These versatile vehicles offer ample cargo space for luggage and outdoor gear, comfortable seating for family or friends, and the capability to handle varied road conditions. The Needles Highway, a 14-mile stretch through Custer State Park, is a must-drive route for SUV renters in Rapid City. This scenic byway winds through towering granite spires and offers breathtaking views of the Black Hills. An SUV rental's higher ground clearance and stable handling make navigating the road's sharp turns and narrow tunnels a breeze. Don't miss the chance to spot wildlife like bison and bighorn sheep along the way. Remember to take it slow and enjoy the journey, especially during peak summer months when traffic can be heavy.
Badlands National Park, just east of Rapid City, showcases an otherworldly landscape of eroded buttes, pinnacles, and spires. An SUV rental is perfect for exploring the park's 31-mile Badlands Loop Road, offering superior views from its elevated seating position. The vehicle's spacious interior allows you to comfortably carry hiking gear, picnic supplies, and camera equipment for capturing the park's stunning vistas. Be sure to stop at the numerous overlooks and consider taking a short hike to fully immerse yourself in this unique environment.
Winter transforms the Black Hills region around Rapid City into a snowy playground, and an SUV rental becomes invaluable during this season. The all-wheel drive capability of many SUV rentals provides excellent traction on snow-covered roads, essential for reaching popular winter destinations like Terry Peak Ski Area. Heated seats and a robust climate control system ensure comfort on chilly days. When driving in winter conditions, maintain a safe following distance, reduce your speed, and be prepared for sudden weather changes. Always check road conditions before setting out on your winter adventure.
When booking an SUV rental in Rapid City, consider your specific needs. For couples or small families, a compact SUV rental might suffice, while larger groups may prefer a full-size model with third-row seating. If you plan to explore remote areas, opt for a vehicle with all-wheel drive. During peak tourist seasons, especially summer, book your rental well in advance to ensure availability. Familiarize yourself with the vehicle's features, particularly the four-wheel drive system if equipped, before embarking on your Black Hills adventure.

The Badlands Loop State Scenic Byway offers breathtaking views of unique rock formations and prairie grasslands. For a forested drive, the Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway winds through the Black Hills, featuring granite spires and tunnels carved into mountainsides. Navigating a large SUV rental in downtown Rapid City requires some planning, particularly during peak tourist times. Familiarize yourself with the city's layout before your trip, focusing on main thoroughfares like Mount Rushmore Road and St. Joseph Street. Utilize parking garages when possible, as they often accommodate larger vehicles more easily than street parking. Be mindful of pedestrians and cyclists, especially around popular areas like Main Street Square. Practice careful turning and be aware of your vehicle's dimensions when maneuvering through narrower streets. Consider using your SUV rental's backup camera and parking sensors to assist with tight spots. Remember, patience is key when driving a larger vehicle in busy urban areas.
When choosing an SUV rental for exploring the Black Hills near Rapid City, consider models that offer a balance of comfort, performance, and fuel efficiency. Mid-size SUV rentals like the Ford Explorer or Jeep Grand Cherokee provide ample space for passengers and gear while maintaining good maneuverability on winding mountain roads. For those seeking luxury, a Range Rover or Mercedes-Benz GLE offers premium features and smooth handling. If you're planning more adventurous drives, a Jeep Wrangler or Toyota 4Runner might be ideal, with their robust suspension systems and higher ground clearance. Regardless of the model, ensure your SUV rental has good visibility and responsive steering for navigating the scenic byways of the Black Hills.
When renting an SUV for winter driving in Rapid City, prioritize safety features that enhance traction and stability. Look for SUV rentals equipped with all-wheel drive or four-wheel drive systems, which provide better control on snowy or icy roads. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) and electronic stability control are crucial for maintaining vehicle stability in slippery conditions. Traction control helps prevent wheel spin during acceleration. Consider SUV rentals with hill descent control for navigating steep, snow-covered slopes safely. Advanced driver assistance systems like forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking can provide an extra layer of safety. Don't forget to check that your rental SUV is fitted with all-season or winter tires suitable for South Dakota's cold weather conditions.
Luxury SUV rentals offer enhanced comfort for long drives through South Dakota, featuring premium amenities that can make your journey more enjoyable. These high-end vehicles often boast superior suspension systems, providing a smoother ride over varied terrain. Luxury SUV rental models typically include more spacious interiors with high-quality materials, reducing fatigue during extended trips. Advanced climate control systems maintain ideal cabin temperatures, while noise-canceling technology ensures a quieter ride. Many luxury SUV rentals also offer advanced infotainment systems and comfortable seating with multiple adjustment options. While standard SUV rentals can certainly handle long drives, luxury options elevate the experience with additional features that can make exploring South Dakota's vast landscapes more relaxing and refined.
When parking large SUV rentals in Rapid City's bustling tourist spots, patience and strategy are key. Look for designated oversized vehicle parking areas, often found near popular attractions. Utilize parking garages when possible, as they typically offer more spacious spots suitable for SUV rentals. When parallel parking, take advantage of your vehicle's backup camera and parking sensors. If available, use the park assist feature to guide you into tighter spaces. Consider parking slightly further from main attractions where larger spots may be more readily available. Always be mindful of your SUV rental's dimensions and leave ample space for other vehicles to maneuver. Remember to fold in your mirrors when parking in tight spaces to avoid damage.
For extended road trips from Rapid City, consider fuel-efficient SUV rental models to maximize your travel distance and minimize stops. Hybrid SUV rentals like the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid or Ford Escape Hybrid offer excellent fuel economy without sacrificing space or comfort. For those preferring non-hybrid options, compact SUV rentals such as the Honda CR-V or Mazda CX-5 provide a good balance of efficiency and capability. If you need more space, mid-size SUV rentals like the Hyundai Santa Fe or Kia Sorento offer respectable fuel economy for their size. These models allow you to explore South Dakota's vast landscapes while keeping fuel costs in check. Remember, actual fuel efficiency can vary based on driving conditions and load, so plan your route and fuel stops accordingly.
Preparing your rented SUV for adventures near Rapid City involves careful planning and respect for the vehicle's capabilities. Start by familiarizing yourself with the SUV rental's features, including its drive modes and terrain management system if available. Check the tire pressure and ensure they're suitable for the terrain you'll encounter. Pack essential supplies like water, snacks, and a first-aid kit. Bring a physical map of the area as cell service may be limited. Before heading out, inform someone of your planned route and expected return time. Remember to stay on designated trails and respect local regulations to preserve the natural beauty of South Dakota's landscapes. Always prioritize safety and avoid pushing the SUV rental beyond its intended use or your driving abilities.
