The car was very clean, well-maintained, and drove perfectly throughout my trip. I highly recommend renting it if you’re planning a road trip or exploring California. FIAT 500 2017

This was the best experience I've had since I began using Turo several years ago for my travels. Aside from the very reasonably-priced rental rate for his car, my host, Sarkis, was SO nice, stayed in communication with me throughout the entire rental process, and went out of his way to be extremely accommodating. He actually delivered his car to the LAX airport for us and brought us back to the LAX airport for our departure! That's in Los Angeles, folks ... unpredictable drivers, crazy, busy freeways and bumper-to-bumper traffic. I mean ... who does that?? I'll tell you who does ... my super host, Sarkis, does! I highly recommend him if you find yourself needing a car in Los Angeles. He really is the best!

Toyota Prius Prime 2021

I am so glad I found this car. The Prius is great. I was also glad to meet the owners when I picked it up because I was new to this type of car, and having someone show me the features made it much easier to get started. I brought a phone holder so I could use navigation and connect my phone to the car, which was very helpful, especially if you are used to relying only on Waze. The Prius is a very comfortable car, and I was excited to try out a hybrid for the first time. Unfortunately, I didn’t have access to charging, so I couldn’t take full advantage of that feature. We also agreed with the owners that I could return the car at a different parking lot, which made it much easier for me to get to the airport. The parking lot even provided a shuttle ride to the airport, which was very convenient. I would definitely rent this car again. Overall, it was a very good experience. Yes, there were a few creaks here and there, but that’s normal for a used car that has had different drivers over time. I didn’t find anything that limited or bothered me during the trip. Thank you for a great first experience with your car & Turo.

Another great experience booking with this host. This car was INCREDIBLE on gas. I drove around the world for my side business and the gas needle barely moved. The car was super comfortable and I was able to connect android auto. The host was always prompt to questions and concerns. I already have new dates lined up to rent again. Listen these cars are older but you do not feel or see that when driving. Now I'm worried I'm letting the cat out the bag and the car won't be available anymore lol.

Who is monthly car rental in Texas for?

Just relocated to Texas

The Texas Triangle — Austin, Dallas–Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio — drove most of the state's recent population growth, adding millions of new residents. If you just moved for a new job or a fresh start, you probably want to learn your commute and your neighborhood before committing to buying. A monthly rental lets you settle in first and decide later.

Lease just ended — or just sold your car

When a lease wraps up or you sell your car, you don't have to rush into the next big decision. A monthly rental bridges the gap while you weigh what to buy next, or whether to buy at all. Drive something reliable in the meantime, and extend the rental for as long as you need to make the right call.

Extended work assignment or traveling professional

Traveling nurses at the Texas Medical Center in Houston, contractors, and project-based workers often need a car for a defined stretch — 10 weeks, three months, six months. For stays like these, a monthly rental is usually more competitive than paying short-term rates day after day. Book the duration that matches your assignment and focus on the work.

Post-college or first car

Fresh out of a Texas university like UT Austin, Texas A&M, or the University of Houston? Limited credit history, a tight budget, and uncertainty about where you'll land can make buying feel premature. A monthly rental lets you drive what you need now, without locking into a loan before you're ready.

Pickup locations for monthly car rental in Texas

Purple squiggle

Dallas–Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)

DFW is one of the largest hubs in the US and a common first stop for people arriving to start an extended stay in Texas. If you're flying in for a new job or a months-long assignment, you can arrange a monthly rental near the airport and have a car ready for the drive into the metroplex. It's a practical starting point for long term car rental in Texas.

Houston

Houston is the state's largest metro, home to the energy sector and the Texas Medical Center — the kind of destinations that draw extended renters and traveling professionals. Guests flying into George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) can line up a monthly rental for the weeks ahead, then settle into the city without the pressure of buying a car right away.

Austin

Austin ranks among the top US metros for job growth, with employers like Apple, Dell, Tesla, and Oracle pulling in professionals from across the country. If you're relocating for one of them, a monthly rental near Austin-Bergstrom (AUS) gives you a car from day one. Get to know your commute and the city before you decide what to drive long term.

Top tips for monthly car rental in Texas

A little planning goes a long way when you're renting by the month in Texas. Here's what to keep in mind before you book.

Finding the best deal

Use the duration filter to focus on cars set up for longer stays, since trips of 30 days or more unlock the deepest discounts. Reduced rates also kick in on seven-day and 14-day bookings. Browse by price to match your budget, and book ahead when you can — the best-value cars tend to go early.

How to pick a car

Think about how you'll actually drive day to day. For a Texas commute, fuel efficiency and comfort usually matter more than flash. Reliable everyday cars — sedans, compact SUVs, and hatchbacks — tend to offer the best value for a monthly rental. Match your cargo and passenger needs, then pick the car that fits your routine.

Road rules and conditions in Texas

Texas leans on a few major interstates, so it helps to know them. I-35 runs the Central Texas corridor through Austin and Dallas–Fort Worth, I-10 crosses east to west through Houston and San Antonio, and I-45 links Houston with Dallas. As a new resident, expect heavy metro traffic during rush hour and plan a little extra time.

Parking in Texas

If you're staying a month or more, look into long-term options rather than short-stay lots. Downtown Dallas, Houston, and Austin all offer monthly garage rates that usually beat paying daily. Dense urban cores often have residential permit zones too, so check the local rules for the neighborhood where you'll be parking overnight.

Toll roads in Texas

Texas tolling is concentrated in the Dallas–Fort Worth, Houston, and Austin metros, and it's handled electronically rather than at cash booths. If your monthly rental keeps you in or around these metros, you'll likely cross a toll road at some point. Keep it general and check your specific route so nothing catches you by surprise.

Gas and EV charging in Texas

Gas stations are plentiful across Texas, so filling up is rarely a concern wherever you're driving. If you're renting an electric car, public charging is expanding steadily along the I-35, I-10, and I-45 corridors and at retail centers in the major metros. Plan longer trips around charging stops, and you'll be set.

Types of cars available in Texas

Guests renting monthly in Texas tend to reach for practical, everyday vehicles — reliable sedans, fuel-efficient compact cars, and family-friendly SUVs. You'll find familiar, dependable makes like Toyota, Honda, and Ford well suited to daily commuting and Texas road trips alike. Pick the size and style that matches your routine, and you're covered.
