Top tips for renting a van in Baltimore

Exploring Baltimore with a van opens up possibilities for group trips, family outings, or transporting gear for special events. Before hitting the road, it's helpful to understand the city streets and how a larger vehicle handles in traffic.

Take your time getting used to the van's length and height. Watch for low bridges, narrow lanes, and tight turns. Slow down around corners and maintain a proper distance from other vehicles to stay safe.

Check your mirrors and use backup cameras when reversing or parking to ensure your safety. Keep cargo balanced and secure, and give yourself extra distance when stopping. Plan routes that suit a larger vehicle to avoid narrow streets or heavy traffic congestion.

What is parking a van like in Baltimore?

Parking a larger van in Baltimore, Maryland, requires attention to height limits, tight garage spaces, and narrow residential streets. Public lots, van-accessible spaces, and open street parking make it easier to find spots at any location. Always heed all signs for parking restrictions so you can avoid fines.

How to choose the right type of van for your Baltimore trip

Selecting the right van for your trip to Baltimore, Maryland, starts with your needs. Passenger vans fit groups or families, while cargo vans handle large items or equipment. Consider seating, storage space, and the number of people or cargo you plan to carry.

Loading a cargo van

Plan your cargo van loading carefully to make trips in Baltimore easier. Keep frequently needed items near the doors. Tie down heavy or breakable gear, and make sure to leave a little space for last-minute additions. Spread the cargo evenly to maintain balance and safety while driving.

Gas stations and EV chargers in Baltimore

Baltimore offers many gas stations and EV chargers throughout the city and along main routes. Vans often run on diesel, so make sure to use the correct fuel. Electric vans can use public chargers, making it easy to plan longer trips and reach your city location without delay.

On each trip, you’re covered with third-party automobile liability insurance provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company.*

We encourage you to request to add additional drivers before your trip starts, though guests can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress.

To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked.
