I needed this rental to commute to work from Joliet to Aurora, and to collect my personal belongings from my old vehicle that I lost. After having a negative experience with a reservation for a different rental agency and needing a vehicle urgently, I came to Turo and luckily found this car! :) There was a small hiccup with the pickup address/zip code leading to the wrong place but the host and I worked together to locate the vehicle, and the brake light was on from when I started the vehicle (although the brakes were fine and had zero issues! 😇) but I had zero problems the entire time driving the car! I am very thankful that it was available after I was stranded in Plainfield because of Hertz, and I will look to rent this vehicle again in the future if it is available because it was reliable and affordable. If you are looking for an affordable and reliable car to commute, this is perfect!

10/10. This car is in excellent condition. It’s beautiful. The inside is well kept and clean. The outside is sleek, black, gorgeous and of course clean. It has the DARKEST tint on the windows which was excellent to keep the sun out and for privacy while driving! The host was amazing. Very easy to communicate with and responded to my messages right away. I had never heard of Turo and I’m so glad Uber advertised it in the app. I didn’t have to drive very far, only to stores and places for activities with my son. This car helped save hundreds of dollars that I would have had to pay if I would have proceeded with ride share services. I recommend anyone to reserve this car if you have the same type of plans. Hotel, food, activities— in short distance. I’m very sure it would have been fine if I went to Chicago or something though too, but that just wasn’t a part of my itinerary this time. Definitely will look into renting from this host in the future.

Top tips for renting a car in Joliet

Nearly all of the city's top attractions, from its parks to its historic landmarks, are conveniently located within easy driving distance. Whatever your travel plans may be — a family vacation, a business trip, or just a weekend of sightseeing — Turo makes it easy to rent the perfect car. Here are some tips you can use to make your trip more enjoyable.

What are the road rules and driving conditions in Joliet?

Because of its convenient location at the intersection of Interstates 55 and 80, Joliet is one of the easiest cities in northern Illinois to reach. Driving around town doesn't usually come with much traffic, but rush hour and race day at Chicagoland Speedway and Route 66 Raceway can cause delays. During the winter, you should expect snow and icy conditions, which can make the roadways dangerous. Preparing ahead for slick surfaces is a key part of staying safe.

What is parking like in Joliet?

Finding a parking spot in Joliet is usually not difficult. Around the Gateway Center, Rialto Square Theatre, and Harrah's Casino, you'll find several public lots and garages downtown. While some areas have parking meters or time limits, there are still plenty of free spots available. Arriving early is smart, as reserved spaces at major event venues like speedways or ballparks tend to fill up quickly.

Are there toll roads in Joliet?

Toll roads such as I-355 and I-294 run near Joliet, so you may pay tolls when traveling to or from the city. Some rental cars on Turo are already set up for electronic tolling, so it's worth checking the vehicle's details when you book to know what to expect before you set off.

Are there gas stations and EV chargers in Joliet?

There are plenty of gas stations in the Joliet area, especially along major highways like I-55 and I-80, with brands like Shell, BP, and Speedway well represented. Joliet also has a reliable public EV-charging network. This includes a Tesla Supercharger site at 2701 Plainfield Road (confirmed on Tesla's official site) and multiple Level-2 charging stations, such as those at Joliet Junior College (Lot E2) and other public spots around the city. With both gas and electric options available, drivers in Joliet can easily refuel or recharge.

Do I need to rent a car in Joliet?

The only public transportation options in Joliet are buses and the Metra, which only goes as far as Chicago. Having a rental vehicle allows you the freedom to explore at your own pace, perfect for seeing places like the Old Joliet Prison, Pilcher Park Nature Center, Rock Run Preserve, and the Illinois Rock & Roll Museum on Route 66. When you have your own car, you can stop anywhere you choose to eat and see the sights without worrying about following a set schedule.

The primary driver (whoever rented the car) can add additional drivers with no fees or additional charges. Only the primary driver can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do it for you. We encourage you to request to add additional drivers before your trip starts, though guests can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress.

To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. You can request to add drivers via the “Trips” tab in the Turo app without additional driver charges or extra costs.
