Absolutely phenomenal experience from start to finish. This was hands down the best Turo host I’ve ever rented from. Communication was instant, pickup was effortless, and the car was spotless and exactly as described. You can tell the host genuinely cares about providing a great experience, not just renting out a vehicle. I rate the host 100 stars because he really cares about his guests. The car itself was PERFECT… smooth ride, super clean, well maintained, and made the entire trip stressfree and enjoyable. Everything worked flawlessly and it honestly felt better than renting from any traditional rental company. If you’re considering booking with this host, do it. I wouldn’t hesitate to rent from them again and will absolutely be looking for their vehicles first next time I’m in town. 10/10 experience all around.

Top tips for renting a car in Joliet

Nearly all of the city's top attractions, from its parks to its historic landmarks, are conveniently located within easy driving distance. Whatever your travel plans may be—a family vacation, a business trip, or just a weekend of sightseeing—Turo makes it easy to rent the perfect car. Here are some tips you can use to make your trip more enjoyable.

What are the road rules and driving conditions in Joliet?

Because of its convenient location at the intersection of Interstates 55 and 80, Joliet is one of the easiest cities in northern Illinois to reach. Driving around town doesn't usually come with much traffic, but rush hour and race day at Chicagoland Speedway and Route 66 Raceway can cause delays. During the winter, you should expect snow and icy conditions, which can make the roadways dangerous. Preparing ahead for slick surfaces is a key part of staying safe.

What is parking like in Joliet?

Finding a parking spot in Joliet is usually not difficult. Around the Gateway Center, Rialto Square Theatre, and Harrah's Casino, you’ll find several public lots and garages downtown. While some areas have parking meters or time limits, there are still plenty of free spots available. Arriving early is smart, as reserved spaces at major event venues like speedways or ballparks tend to fill up quickly.

Are there toll roads in Joliet?

You should expect to pay tolls on highways like I-355 and I-294 when traveling to or from Joliet. For your convenience, some Turo hosts equip their cars with I-PASS devices. These gadgets pay for tolls automatically, making your travel much easier. Otherwise, making a payment online is a breeze. Before setting off on your tour, be sure to consult your host for any necessary information.

Are there gas stations and EV chargers in Joliet?

There are plenty of gas stations in the Joliet area, especially along major highways like I-55 and I-80, with brands like Shell, BP, and Speedway well represented. Joliet also has a reliable public EV-charging network. This includes a Tesla Supercharger site at 2701 Plainfield Road (confirmed on Tesla’s official site) and multiple Level-2 charging stations, such as those at Joliet Junior College (Lot E2) and other public spots around the city. With both gas and electric options available, drivers in Joliet can easily refuel or recharge.

Do I need to rent a car in Joliet?

The only public transportation options in Joliet are buses and the Metra, which only goes as far as Chicago. Having a rental vehicle allows you the freedom to explore at your own pace, perfect for seeing places like the Old Joliet Prison, Pilcher Park Nature Center, Rock Run Preserve, and the Illinois Rock & Roll Museum on Route 66. When you have your own car, you can stop anywhere you choose to eat and see the sights without worrying about following a set schedule.

When booking a car in the US, you’ll choose between three protection plans — Premier (eligibility requirements apply), Standard, or Minimum — to get the level of protection that’s right for you. On each trip, you’re covered with third-party automobile liability insurance provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company.*

In New York state, you’ll also choose between Premier (if available), Standard, or Minimum. With each plan, you’re covered with liability insurance of $1,250,000.* Protection plans for New York trips also include access to roadside assistance, priority phone support, and 24/7 customer assistance.

The primary driver (whoever rented the car) can add additional drivers with no fees or additional charges. Only the primary driver can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do it for you. We encourage you to request to add additional drivers before your trip starts, though guests can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress.

To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. You can request to add drivers via the “Trips” tab in the Turo app without additional driver charges or extra costs.
