We rented this car for our trip and, overall, the vehicle itself was great. It was roomy, comfortable, and drove well—no issues there, and we genuinely enjoyed using it during our stay.
Unfortunately, our experience with the host was very different. When we first got into the car, we noticed a rip on the bottom right of the driver’s seat. Wanting to be transparent and avoid any potential issues later, we sent a photo to the host right away to document the pre-existing damage.
Instead of acknowledging it, the host became immediately defensive. We were told we should be “grateful” because other customers are, which felt dismissive and unnecessary. The situation escalated when he suggested we return the car, which felt like a threat to our vacation plans. At that point, we had to explain multiple times that we were simply trying to protect ourselves from being charged for damage we did not cause.
What should have been a simple, responsible communication turned into a stressful interaction where we felt like we had to plead just to keep a rental we had already paid for.
To be clear, the car itself was perfectly fine and met our needs. However, the host’s demeanor and the way we were treated made this a negative experience overall. No customer should feel uncomfortable or pressured for doing the right thing.
