I will break my car rental experience (November, 2025) into 3 parts: Turo, car provider and vehicle. Turo. First time to use this app. Overall, simple and intuitive to use. It is a good option when compared to the traditional car rental companies. It was really nice not having to wait at the service rental counter. Car provider. Once you finish with the Turo process, you finalize all the details with the car owner. Daniel was exceptional to work with. He was timely and thorough with his responses to all my inquiries. Our flight arrived earlier than scheduled. I contacted Daniel and he had the car immediately available for my use. He was honest and trustworthy. At the end of the trip, I identified what I thought was a new chip in the paint. He reported it was present before the rental and not an issue. There is comfort in knowing there was no hidden agenda. Vehicle, Toyota Corolla, 2015. Don't let the age or size of the car deter you. The car was clean, dependable and satisfied all of my needs for 2 people. Hawaii may be dramatic with its natural wonders, but it is stingy with the parking spaces and roads (think road to Hana and Haleakala Volcano). We were happy to be driving this car instead of the SUVs and Jeeps that populated the parking lots and narrow, twisting roads. Overall, I would recommend Turo and HIGHLY recommend Daniel and his Toyota Corolla for your car rental needs in Maui.

David was communicative, pickup and drop off was easy with clear instructions, car drove well, overall very satisfied with our experience. Great cost friendly alternative to bigger car rental companies with a lot more flexibility, but come with the right expectations (i.e. don't expect a squeaky clean car)

Wow. Just wow. If you’re planning to rent a car while in Oahu, this Ford Mustang convertible is absolutely the way to do it. There’s nothing like dropping the top and cruising along the island coastlines with the Hawaiian sun and ocean views around you. It honestly became one of the highlights of our trip. The car itself was spotless, fun to drive, and perfect for exploring the island. But what really made the experience exceptional was Gabriel. From start to finish, he was incredibly responsive, professional, and accommodating. Pick-up and drop-off were seamless, and he went out of his way to make everything easy and stress-free for our family. If you’re considering renting a vehicle in Oahu, do yourself a favor and rent from Gabriel. You won’t regret it!

Top tips for hiring a car in Rockhampton

Whether you're visiting for the first time or you're rediscovering the regional gem, there are a few things to note when looking to hire a car in Rockhampton.

- GPS and navigation: Considered a rural region, Rockhampton may be a little more remote than expected. Stay prepared and navigate with ease by choosing a car type with an in-built GPS and navigation system.
- Choose the right vehicle: When picking a hire car, it's important to consider road and weather conditions before you set off. Luckily, Turo offers a range of car types and models to suit all activities and locations.
- Extra space: Whether you're catching waves or camping under the stars, you may want to consider picking a car type that offers extra space or storage racks.
- Book in advance: Plan ahead and hit the road with ease by booking in advance to beat the rush.

Rockhampton Road Rules

Remember to drive on the left side of the road in Rockhampton, adhere to the speed limit by following road signs and be aware of pedestrian crossing and school zones in neighbourhood areas. Plus, fully licensed drivers must stick to the legal Blood Alcohol Concentrate (BAC) limit of under 0.05.

As Rockhampton is considered a rural and mostly remote area, road conditions differ as you venture further from Brisbane or surrounding cities. Along the way, you might encounter unsealed and less maintained roads and passing native wildlife (especially in the early mornings, late afternoons and nights). Always be cautious when driving in remote areas to avoid collisions.

When entering the Rockhampton region, you may pass by gravel roads and driveways. Make sure to look out for 'no through road' signage, as this may be considered private property.

Airport advice: Navigating in and around the airport

Flying into Rockhampton airport? Once you've picked up your luggage from baggage claim, you'll spot a range of hire car companies located inside the terminal building (right next to the East St Cafe).

Want to skip the hassle of a rental car desk? Book ahead and get your Turo host to deliver your car directly to the Rockhampton airport car park.

Alternatively, you can grab a taxi or Uber into the city or even take the public shuttle bus straight to your accommodation. This means you can check-in to your hotel or holiday rental sooner, and your Turo host can drop your ride directly to wherever you're staying in Rockhampton.

Parking in and around Rockhampton

In and around Rockhampton, there are various free and paid parking options. Both on-street parking and parking lots are conveniently located within the city.

Some of the most convenient parking locations include:

- Quay Street and surrounding areas have on-street parking spaces, but availability may be limited during peak hours.

- Some attractions, like the Rockhampton Art Gallery and Pilbeam Theatre, have designated parking areas or nearby street parking.

Some areas might have time restrictions on parking, and some spots could be reserved for specific purposes, like disabled parking or loading zones, depending on the time of day. Make sure to check signage and remain aware of timing when parking in the city centre.
