Trip was great but the shuttle company was very unprofessional and rude I was there right on time to pick up my car due to my flight getting delayed and my mom’s walker being lost. There should be a note on the reservation about there being a shuttle and how important it is to be on time so you don’t get yelled at. But otherwise the trip was great. Car ran good, and was comfortable. Jeff had good communication and was kind

Kyle's communication was wonderful. Incredibly descriptive about where to find the car, park the car, etc. Photos included! I added on camp chairs and coolers that I didn't end up needing but I was floored by how thoughtful he was to include an umbrella because it might rain this week. Absolutely will rent from again next time in town! 5 stars PLUS! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🤩

Montpelier, Vermont

Stowe Mountain Resort

A year-round playground, Stowe is beloved for its powder-dusted ski slopes in winter and its lush hiking trails in warmer months. Drive up the Auto Toll Road for sweeping views of Mount Mansfield, or park nearby and tackle the Sunset Ridge Trail. With your own wheels, reaching the resort is a breeze — especially if you're carrying ski gear or hiking packs.

Quechee Gorge

Known as “Vermont’s Little Grand Canyon,” Quechee Gorge carves a dramatic path through the landscape just off US Route 4. Park in the visitor lot and walk the bridge for panoramic views or descend to the Ottauquechee River for a peaceful picnic. With no major transit options in the area, a car is essential for this detour.

Shelburne Museum

Just a short drive south of Burlington, the Shelburne Museum houses everything from folk art to a restored steamboat on 45 acres of landscaped grounds. Ample parking makes it easy to stop in, and having a car means you can spend the morning here before cruising over to the Lake Champlain waterfront for lunch.

With Lake Champlain to the west and the Green Mountains rising to the east, BTV puts you at the heart of Vermont’s natural splendor.

Montpelier may be the nation’s smallest capital, but it’s rich with character, history, and maple-drenched charm. Arrange a car pick-up in town or nearby and chart your own path through forested byways, quaint main streets, and local sugarhouses.

Stowe and Northern Vermont

If your plans include a ski weekend or a leaf-peeping road trip, booking a rental car in Stowe is the smart move. Top tips for renting a car in Vermont

Vermont’s winding mountain roads and rural routes reward confident drivers with breathtaking views and off-the-beaten-path discoveries. These quick tips will help make your Vermont rental car experience smooth, scenic, and stress-free — from your first reservation to your last mile.

What documents and paperwork do you need to rent a car in Vermont?

To rent a car on Turo, you must create a Turo account, be 18 years old or older with a valid driver’s license, and get approved to drive on Turo. When you’re booking your first trip, you’ll go through an approval process by entering your driver’s license information by providing a photo of it and some other information. In most cases, you’ll get approved immediately, and you’ll be set for future road trips, business trips, and family vacations!

What are the road rules and driving conditions in Vermont?

Traffic is generally light across Vermont’s highways, though you may encounter congestion around I-89 near Montpelier and Burlington during peak travel seasons. Speed limits are typically 25–30 mph in town centers and 50–65 mph on highways, but can drop quickly in rural areas — so keep an eye on the signs.

Winter driving calls for extra caution. Between December and March, snow and black ice are common, especially in higher elevations and around the Green Mountains. Studded tires are legal from mid-October through May, and many locals drive with snow chains during heavy storms. In summer, fog and slick roads can appear after afternoon rain.

If you're exploring small towns or trailheads, narrow backroads and unpaved paths are part of the charm. A compact SUV or all-wheel drive vehicle is ideal for accessing less-traveled areas and scenic viewpoints across the state’s charming cities and countryside.

Are there toll roads in Vermont?

There are no toll roads in Vermont, making road-tripping between towns and attractions even easier on the wallet.

Do I need to rent a car in Vermont?

Public transport is limited and major sights like Green Mountain National Forest, Lake Willoughby, and Mad River Glen are best reached by car. With convenient rental locations in Vermont — including near regional airports — it’s easy to pick up a vehicle that suits your pace. Turo makes it simple to skip the traditional airport car rental desk and get on the road faster, whether you're visiting for leaf-peeping season or chasing a summer road trip through the state’s scenic cities.

What occasions can I rent a car for in Vermont?

- Vacation car rental: With its covered bridges, mountain towns, and lush state parks, Vermont is made for slow drives and spontaneous detours. Cruise along Route 100 or explore the maple farms and waterfalls near Stowe. To lock in the best prices, it’s worth booking your trip in advance — especially during fall foliage season when the roads come alive with color.

- Wedding car rentals: Picturesque venues like The Inn at Round Barn Farm and Basin Harbor turn Vermont into a dream wedding destination. Guests and bridal parties alike often choose to book SUVs or luxury sedans to ensure comfortable transport across towns and rural roads. Renting a car for the big day means you can tailor your vehicle to the vibe of the celebration — practical, polished, or a little bit of both.

- Long-term car rentals: If you're planning to spend a season skiing in Killington or working remotely in Burlington, long-term car rental in Vermont on Turo offers flexibility without the commitment of ownership. Many travellers lock in lower prices when booking multi-month trips through Turo.

Vermont’s winding mountain passes, historic small towns, and rugged backroads make it a dream to drive — so long as you’ve got the right car for the journey. On Turo, you’ll find a wide range of vehicles including, but not limited to:

- SUV rental: Ideal for mountain drives or winter conditions, options like the Subaru Outback or Jeep Grand Cherokee offer all-wheel drive and ample space for snow gear or hiking packs.

- Luxury car rental: Glide through Burlington’s lakeside neighborhoods or pull up to a dinner reservation in Stowe in a premium model like the Audi A6 or Lexus ES.

- Pickup truck rental: Great for rural stays or moving between cities, a Ford F-150 or similar makes hauling gear or navigating backroads simple and smooth.

- Electric vehicle rental: Go green as you cruise between Vermont’s eco-conscious towns. Models like the Tesla Model Y combine innovation with long-range comfort.

- Performance sport car rental: Add thrill to your scenic drives with a Ford Mustang or Chevy Camaro — ideal for Route 100’s dramatic fall foliage views.
