Hit the road

Looking to explore the Queensland coast and surrounds? The Gold Coast is the perfect place to do it from. Up and down the coastline and further inland, there’s a host of natural wonders, pretty towns, beaches, and swathes of lush forest, along with fun theme parks that are perfect for family holidays. If you’re game for a slightly longer road trip, you can even venture over to islands just off the coast by car.

Convenient pickup & return

Rather than hustling at the busy terminal curbside, take your time picking up the car at a parking lot or garage. Check in, load up your luggage, and get comfortable with the car without a big rush.

Contactless check-in and checkout

Many hosts offer contactless check-in and checkout, if their car has remote access technology, allowing you to find the car, unlock it, and be on your way without meeting them in person. Message your host for specific instructions.

Free cancellation

Cancel for a full refund up to 24 hours before your trip starts. Because life happens and it helps to be flexible when it does.

Destinations near the Gold Coast

Purple squiggle

Tamborine Mountain

Head 50 minutes out of the central Gold Coast and you’ll hit the verdant town of Tamborine Mountain. There are plenty of accommodation options surrounded by towering trees, along with bushwalks, lookouts, local markets, galleries, and distilleries. The drive to the town is half the magic, with roads that offer sweeping views of the nearby landscape.

Byron Bay

Australia’s capital of hippie cool, Byron Bay is a fantastic destination if you’re after an eclectic vibe and alternative crowd. You can also surf at one of the town’s many beautiful beaches, dine at a vast selection of trendy eateries, or shop for locally made fashion and accessories.

North Stradbroke Island

North Stradbroke Island may sit off the Queensland coast, but you can actually take your car there — the roads on the island are sealed and easy to drive on. When you get there, go whale-watching, swim at the numerous beaches, or head deeper underwater for a snorkelling adventure.

Hit the beach or the shops — the choice is yours.

Mermaid Beach

Compared to busier spots like Surfers Paradise and Burleigh Heads, Mermaid Beach is incredibly laid-back. The beach itself is good for fishing and relaxing swims, while just up from the sand you’ll find hole-in-the-wall eateries and the popular Mermaid Surf Life Saving Club — a beloved meeting spot for locals.

Miami Marketta

Miami Marketta is one of the Gold Coast’s best dining precincts, a bustling night market filled with cuisines from around the world. Pull up a stool at one of the long communal tables and sample dishes from Thailand, Spain, Korea, Greece, and Turkey, paired with local beers, wines, and live entertainment.

Cavill Avenue

Cavill Avenue is the beating heart of Surfers Paradise. This lively pedestrianised shopping strip is packed with restaurants, bars, clubs, and retail outlets. There’s obviously lots to do here, but simply strolling up and down the street lets you soak up the vibrant atmosphere.

There is no fee or additional charge for adding a driver to your trip on Turo. Only the guest who booked the trip (primary driver) can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do it for you. We encourage you to request to add authorised drivers before your trip starts, though guests in the US, Canada, and Australia can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress with no extra charges.

To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s licence and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. You can request to add drivers via the “Trips” tab in the Turo app without additional driver charges or extra costs.
