David was communicative, pickup and drop off was easy with clear instructions, car drove well, overall very satisfied with our experience. Great cost friendly alternative to bigger car rental companies with a lot more flexibility, but come with the right expectations (i.e. don't expect a squeaky clean car)

Mr. John upgraded my rental car free of charge, which let me experience the charm of a GT for the first time. This Mustang made my Great Ocean Road trip incredibly enjoyable. Meanwhile, Mr. John thoughtfully prepared an umbrella and water in the car. I will definitely rent a car from him again when I come to Melbourne next time.

The car rental process was very easy and smooth. Suraj, the owner, personally brought the car key to the meeting point, which I really appreciated. I prefer this much more than using a lockbox, as I’ve had issues with passcodes before. The car was clean, easy to use, and very comfortable to drive. Communication with the owner was excellent — he was easy to contact and replied to messages quickly. Overall, a great experience and I would definitely recommend this rental.

Checkin and Checkout process very straightforward forward. Car is exactly as expected, very fun to drive. Car was clean and presents as neatly as it does in the photos. Host is very responsive which is always a big plus. Great car to take when zipping through country roads and very convenient for Melbourne city driving. Had a great time. will definitely keep this in mind for the next time we need a rental.

Holden BARINA 2013

Great car, runs smoothly and good to get around the city and out of the city on a longer haul. Some minor parts not quite at full function such as the side mirror tilting (this could be fixed by changing the angle by hand) but primarily these were cosmetic. Pick up was really easy, once I figured out the lock box, bluetooth functionality worked and car was comfortable and warm to drive, and clean to arrive at. Overall great value and great location, would rent again.

Fantastic host! Super polite and a pleasure to deal with from start to finish. Great communication, pick up and drop off process was a breeze. Cars are clean and well presented. This is my second hire with this host and both cars have had a high quality phone mount already in the vehicle, (inclusive and not charged as an extra) a non-negotiable for me to use gps safely while driving. Happy to hire with this host again!

Brilliant car. Honestly one of the best ive driven. It is very fuel efficient but gutsy at the same time. This car is more than it first appears to be on the surface, genuinely loaded with features and yet it sips fuel. Would definitely drive this again so thank you to the owner for the opportunity.

This is possibly my new favourite thing regarding car hire, I only came across Turo last week, when I need to book a car late Sunday night for an early Monday start, and could not find any of the traditional car hire places open or able to accomodate, unless I went to the airport. I found Turo and Ajay and booked my car very late Sunday night and hoped for the best for 7am start, Ajay responded immediately, a convenient pick up location, a super convenient process, car was immaculate, and to top it all off, I was able to end the journey at my place and Ajay came and met me at mine to take back the car, so I did not have to worry about transport back to mine. Phenonemal platform and even more than phenomenal host, I willl never use a traditional car hire place again, (note here that not every Turo experience seems great with lots of hosts appearing to cancel with little notice, not Ajay) book, book, book ... highly highly recommended.

Frequently asked questions in Collingwood

What are some popular pickup locations for car hire in Collingwood, and how do they benefit guests exploring Victoria?

Collingwood offers several convenient pickup locations for car hire, making it easy for guests to start their Victoria adventures. The bustling Smith Street precinct is a popular spot, where guests can find a diverse range of vehicles from hosts on Turo. This vibrant area allows visitors to combine car pickup with exploring local shops and cafes. Another beneficial location is near Collingwood Station, providing seamless transitions for those arriving by public transport. These central pickup points give guests the flexibility to quickly access Melbourne's attractions or venture into Victoria's scenic countryside. With Turo's peer-to-peer car rental marketplace, guests can choose from a variety of vehicles to suit their needs, whether it's a compact car for city exploration or a larger vehicle for road trips to the Yarra Valley or Great Ocean Road.

What are some pleasant driving routes near Collingwood that showcase Victoria's natural beauty?

Collingwood offers easy access to several scenic drives that highlight Victoria's natural splendour. The Great Ocean Road, a short distance from Melbourne, winds along the coast, offering breathtaking views of the Southern Ocean. For a closer option, consider a drive through the Yarra Valley, known for its lush vineyards and rolling hills. The Dandenong Ranges, with its towering Mountain Ash trees and quaint villages, provides a refreshing escape from urban life. These routes are perfect for those with a hired car, allowing you to explore at your own pace and stop at charming towns along the way. Remember to check your vehicle's fuel level before embarking on these journeys, as petrol stations can be sparse in some rural areas.

How can guests find convenient parking facilities in Collingwood's bustling areas?

Navigating Collingwood's bustling areas in your hired car can be manageable with some local knowledge. On-street parking is available but often time-limited, so be sure to check signage carefully. Several off-street car parks offer more extended stays, including the Collingwood Arts Precinct car park and the multi-level facility on Langridge Street. For those exploring Smith Street's vibrant scene, consider using the nearby Yorkshire Brewery car park. It's advisable to arrive early in popular areas, especially on weekends. Some local businesses offer validated parking, so inquire if making purchases. Remember, Collingwood's narrow streets can be tricky to navigate, so take care when manoeuvring your hired vehicle in tight spaces.

Which car types are recommended for exploring Collingwood and its surrounding regions?

When choosing a car hire for exploring Collingwood and its surroundings, consider a versatile vehicle that suits both urban and rural driving. A compact or mid-size car is ideal for navigating Collingwood's narrow streets and finding parking in bustling areas. However, if you plan to venture into Victoria's countryside, a small SUV might be more suitable, offering better visibility and comfort on longer drives. For those interested in eco-friendly options, many rental providers now offer hybrid or electric vehicles, which are perfect for city driving and align with Melbourne's environmentally conscious ethos. Whatever your choice, ensure your hired car has good fuel efficiency to make the most of your Victorian adventure.

What should guests know about navigating peak hour traffic in Melbourne's inner suburbs?

Navigating peak hour traffic in Melbourne's inner suburbs, including Collingwood, requires some planning and patience. Morning rush hour typically runs from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM, while evening peak is from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM. If possible, plan your trips outside these times. When using your hired car during peak hours, be prepared for slower speeds and longer travel times. Melbourne's hook turns, unique to the city, can be confusing for visitors, so familiarise yourself with this manoeuvre before driving in the CBD. Consider using Melbourne's excellent public transport system during peak times and save your car hire for off-peak exploration. Always check for current traffic conditions before setting out, as roadworks are common in inner suburbs like Collingwood.

Where can guests find reliable gas stations around Collingwood for refueling their hired cars?

Collingwood and its surrounding areas offer several reliable options for refuelling your hired car. Along Johnston Street, you'll find a couple of well-known petrol stations that are conveniently open 24/7. Smith Street, another major thoroughfare, also hosts a few fuel stations. For those venturing towards the CBD, there are additional options along Hoddle Street. It's worth noting that fuel prices can vary significantly between stations, so it might be beneficial to compare prices if you're not in a rush. Some supermarkets in the area offer fuel discounts with grocery purchases, which can be a good way to save on your car hire expenses. Remember to refuel well before your tank gets too low, especially if you're planning trips to less populated areas outside of Collingwood.

What are some key differences between driving in Collingwood's urban areas versus rural Victoria?

Driving your hired car in Collingwood's urban areas differs significantly from rural Victoria. In Collingwood, expect narrow streets, one-way systems, and heavy pedestrian traffic, requiring constant alertness. Parking can be challenging, with many time-restricted zones. Speed limits are generally lower, typically 40-50 km/h. In contrast, rural Victoria offers more open roads with higher speed limits, often up to 100 km/h. However, be prepared for occasional unsealed roads and wildlife, especially at dawn and dusk. Rural areas have fewer petrol stations, so plan your refuelling stops carefully. While urban driving requires navigating trams and cyclists, rural driving demands awareness of road trains and agricultural vehicles. Always adapt your driving style to the environment, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience in your hired vehicle.

How can guests prepare for various weather conditions while driving in Collingwood and Victoria?

When driving your hired car in Collingwood and Victoria, it's crucial to be prepared for diverse weather conditions. Melbourne is known for its "four seasons in one day" climate, so flexibility is key. In winter, expect occasional frosty mornings in Collingwood, while rural areas might experience fog or even light snow in higher elevations. Ensure your rental vehicle has properly functioning windscreen wipers and demister. Summer can bring intense heat, so check your car's air conditioning before setting out. If heading to coastal areas, be prepared for sudden wind changes. Always check the weather forecast before long drives, especially if venturing into rural Victoria. Keep extra water in your car and adjust your driving to suit the conditions, slowing down in wet or low visibility situations.

What are some essential tips for planning a road trip from Collingwood to regional Victoria?

Planning a road trip from Collingwood to regional Victoria in your hired car can be an exciting adventure. First, map out your route and identify key stops for breaks and refuelling. Regional Victoria offers diverse landscapes, from the Grampians to the Mornington Peninsula, so choose a destination that suits your interests. Pack essentials like water, snacks, and a first-aid kit. Check your hired vehicle thoroughly before departing, ensuring tyres, lights, and wipers are in good condition. Be prepared for varying road conditions, from multi-lane highways near Melbourne to country roads in remote areas. Take regular breaks to avoid fatigue, especially on longer drives. Lastly, download offline maps as mobile coverage can be patchy in some rural areas. Remember, the journey is as important as the destination when exploring Victoria by car.
