A monthly car rental in California gives you the car you need without any of the strings that come with owning one. No loan, no lease, no down payment, and no dealership. You simply choose how long you want the car and drive it for as long as your plans require, all booked from your phone.
It's built for people who need a car for a stretch of time, not a weekend trip. Maybe you just relocated to California, your lease ended, you're between cars, or you're here on an extended work assignment. Whatever the reason, extended car rental keeps things flexible, affordable, and free of any long-term commitment.
Getting a long term car rental in California takes three steps, all handled in the Turo app.

Open the Turo app or website and search for monthly rentals in California. Filter by vehicle type, price, features, and pickup location. Once you find the right car, book it instantly — no phone calls, no paperwork, no waiting.

Pick up your car in California and drive it for 30 days or longer. Many vehicles on Turo come with monthly discounts for bookings of 30+ days, so the longer you stay, the more value you get.

If your plans shift, extend your booking, swap to a different car, or cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before your trip starts. You stay in control.

Great Tesla and an even better host! The car was clean, drove perfectly all week, and the whole rental process was smooth and hassle-free.
Thank you for everything. The car was very comfortable and easy to drive, which made the trip much more enjoyable. I also appreciated how smooth and stress-free the whole rental process was. I would gladly rent from you again in the future.
Car delivered to address on time, great communication, easy and smooth ride

The rental went well. It's an easy check in & check out. Car was great on gas and helped me accomplish what I needed to do. I would definitely rent again. Thank you!
10/10 car rental experience! New to Turo, and first car rental in what seems like a hundred years, so I appreciate very much the ease of the entire process. This lil red Prius is dependable, and GREAT on gas! Handles well on the road, and brakes are punctual. Upon pick up, the car was clean, gas tank full, ready to hit the road! Kristian is friendly, available, communicative, and I give thanks that he offers this service with his vehicle. I recommend renting with Kristian and will rent again.
Great trip, great car! The fact that the car was dropped off and picked up at my house was the best thing ever. Will book again!!

I am so glad I found this car. The Prius is great. I was also glad to meet the owners when I picked it up because I was new to this type of car, and having someone show me the features made it much easier to get started. I brought a phone holder so I could use navigation and connect my phone to the car, which was very helpful, especially if you are used to relying only on Waze. The Prius is a very comfortable car, and I was excited to try out a hybrid for the first time. Unfortunately, I didn’t have access to charging, so I couldn’t take full advantage of that feature. We also agreed with the owners that I could return the car at a different parking lot, which made it much easier for me to get to the airport. The parking lot even provided a shuttle ride to the airport, which was very convenient. I would definitely rent this car again. Overall, it was a very good experience. Yes, there were a few creaks here and there, but that’s normal for a used car that has had different drivers over time. I didn’t find anything that limited or bothered me during the trip. Thank you for a great first experience with your car & Turo.
Serg was an exceptional host — professional, responsive, and made the entire rental process smooth and stress-free. The car was spotless, exactly as described, and drove perfectly. Highly recommend renting from Serg and would definitely book again!

The car was amazing for my trip I will say make sure you are near a charging station, but overall the cart was great being that it doesn’t run on gas amazing
Best host ever! Accommodating Nice and professional highly recommend this was also my first rental experience

Excellent trip , love the car. Great host response so fast just love everything, will be booking again soon!

Five stars all around!! The host was very responsive and gave great guidance on locating the vehicle. The car is nice and comfortable, and provides a great, smooth ride. Would definitely recommend and rent again.

Who is monthly car rental in California for?
Just relocated to California
A move to California often comes before you know the area. You might be starting a tech role in the Bay Area, an entertainment or healthcare job in Los Angeles, or a biotech position in San Diego. A monthly rental gives you a reliable car right away, so you can learn your commute and your neighborhood before deciding whether buying even makes sense.
Lease just ended — or just sold your car
When a lease ends or a car sells, you're suddenly without wheels but not ready to sign for the next one. A monthly rental bridges that gap. Drive an everyday car for as long as you need while you take your time deciding what to buy, and extend the rental if your search runs long.
Extended work assignment or traveling professional
Traveling nurses, contractors, remote workers, and interns on defined-period California stays need a car for weeks or months, not days. For a 10-week or six-month assignment, a monthly rental is usually more competitive than booking short-term rates day after day, and it flexes with your schedule if the project runs long.
Post-college or first car
If you're fresh out of school with limited credit history and a tight budget, a car loan feels like a heavy commitment when your plans are still taking shape. A monthly rental lets you drive what you need in California without a down payment or a credit check, and without locking yourself into years of payments.
If you're flying into California for an extended stay, you'll find monthly and long-term rentals near the airport. Booking a car near LAX means you can pick it up soon after you land and settle into your new routine without arranging a separate ride into the city first.
Greater Los Angeles is one of the best places in California for a monthly rental, especially if you live or work there rather than passing through. A long term car rental fits daily commuting across the region's spread-out neighborhoods, from downtown to the San Fernando Valley.
The San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley draw project-based and relocating workers who need dependable wheels for months at a time. Monthly rental suits residents navigating the region day to day far better than short-term rates, and it saves you the cost of buying in one of the country's priciest markets.

A little planning goes a long way before you book a monthly rental in California. Here's what to know about pricing, picking a car, and driving in the state.
Use the duration filter to see rates for longer stays, since trips of 30 or more days unlock the deepest discounts. Browse by price range to match your budget, and book in advance when you can — the best-value everyday cars in California tend to get reserved early.
For months of daily driving, prioritize fuel efficiency, comfort, and the cargo or passenger space you actually need. Reliable everyday cars usually offer the best value for a long stay, so lean toward sedans, compact SUVs, and hatchbacks over flashier options you'll pay more to keep.
California traffic gets heavy in Los Angeles and the Bay Area, so plan extra time on major routes like I-5, US-101, I-405, I-10, and I-80. New residents should know the state uses carpool and express lanes on many freeways, and a monthly rental makes learning your regular commute a lot easier.
For a long stay, think about parking as a monthly cost, not a one-off. Dense areas like Los Angeles and San Francisco often use residential permit zones, and a monthly garage spot can run well above street parking. Factor it into your budget the same way you would rent.
California uses FasTrak for its toll bridges, express lanes, and toll roads statewide. Tolls fall outside what Turo handles, so keep it simple: check the route you'll drive most and look into whether FasTrak makes sense for your regular trips before you set off.
Gas stations are easy to find across California, so refueling a sedan or compact is rarely a worry. If you rent an electric car, the state has one of the most extensive charging networks in the country — apps like ChargePoint and PlugShare help you locate nearby stations during a longer stay.
Monthly rentals in California skew toward practical, everyday vehicles: reliable sedans, fuel-efficient compacts, and family-friendly SUVs that hold up to daily driving. You'll find dependable makes like Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, and Kia, which tend to offer the best balance of comfort, space, and running costs.
Whether you want to rent a car for a month in California or stay for several months, rentals on Turo get cheaper the longer you book. Trips of 30 days or more unlock the deepest discounts, and many listings also offer reduced rates for seven-day and 14-day bookings. About 60% of available monthly supply in California is priced under $800 per month, with a median around $1,300 per month. You'll see the total price before you book — no hidden fees, no surprise charges at the end.
No. Booking a monthly car rental in California on Turo doesn't involve a credit check, so you can get a car without the paperwork and approval process that come with a loan or lease.
Yes. If your plans in California run longer than expected, you can extend your monthly rental right in the Turo app, subject to the car's availability, so you keep driving without rebooking from scratch.
Yes. If your needs change partway through a monthly rental in California, you can swap into a different car that fits your budget or space requirements, giving you flexibility that owning a car simply can't match.
To book a monthly rental in California, you'll need a valid driver's license and a payment method, plus you must meet Turo's eligibility requirements. You can confirm the current details in the Turo app before you book.
You'll need a valid driver's license to rent a car in California on Turo. Guests visiting from outside the US should check Turo's requirements for international licenses in the app before booking.
Mileage allowances are set per listing, so each monthly rental in California shows its included distance and any daily limit up front. If you drive a lot, use the search filters to find cars that suit higher-mileage stays.
Yes. Listings across California offer discounts that grow the longer you book, with the deepest savings on trips of 30 or more days and reduced rates on seven-day and 14-day bookings.
Monthly rentals in California skew toward practical, everyday vehicles — reliable sedans, fuel-efficient compacts, and family-friendly SUVs from dependable makes like Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, and Kia. You can browse by type, price, and features to match your stay.

It can be, especially for shorter needs of one to three months in California. A lease usually means a down payment, a fixed monthly payment, and maintenance costs you carry yourself, plus a multi-year commitment. A monthly rental on Turo shows one transparent all-in price with no down payment and no long-term contract, so you can compare the real numbers for your situation before deciding.
