Joshua Tree sits at the intersection of the Mojave and Colorado deserts, where twisted Joshua trees create an otherworldly landscape against dramatic rock formations. You'll discover hidden oases, world-class rock climbing sites, and some of the darkest skies perfect for stargazing. A car rental gives you the freedom to explore this vast desert wilderness at your own pace, accessing remote trailheads and scenic viewpoints that public transportation simply cannot reach. The park's sprawling 800,000 acres demand personal transportation to fully experience its diverse ecosystems and geological wonders. Your rental car becomes essential for navigating between the park's different entrances and discovering both popular attractions and secluded desert gems.

Car drove very smooth, was good on gas and host is phenomenal I book with them often and they are always accommodating and prompt in responding.

Absolutely incredible experience..The car quality was flawless interior, as well exterior, and drove like a dream. The pickup location was super convenient. The host, was extremely friendly, responsive. 10/10 would rent again!
Easy peasy.. appreciated the cold water .. great lil car to take looking in the shops through down Joshua tree and around the wonderful Morongo Basin

Very responsive and helpful made things very stress free. Also was very under standing about accommodating to my trip!

Very communicative and attentive. Great vehicle. Would love to rent again!
Host was wonderful and the car drove great no issues would rent again I gave this Host Mrs Keys five starts for going the extra mile my son cut his finger and she had an emergency kit and a flash light so I could see note pad and pen if I needed to take a number extra water for the road Thank You

Kevin is a kind, laid back, and extremely understanding host. The Malibu gave me no issues whatsoever. Malibu is Chevy’s most reliable 4 door sedan. Can’t go wrong with Lady Malibu! Even the mileage was pretty good. You get 400 estimated miles on each 15.9 gallon tank. Five star experience. (No hesitation on that or any other score!)

Always clean and reliable! Great host! Communicative and very customer service oriented. Look forward to using again!

Another fantastic experience with this host. as always, the transaction was incredibly smooth. I really appreciate the opportunity to use such a well-maintained vehicle for my work. Highly recommend this host for anyone looking for reliability and professionalism!

Joshua Tree National Park offers incredible hiking trails, rock climbing opportunities, and stargazing experiences that require a car to access properly. You can drive the scenic park roads to reach Skull Rock, Cholla Cactus Garden, and Keys View, which provides panoramic vistas across the Coachella Valley. Your rental car allows you to explore multiple park entrances, visit the quirky Integratron in nearby Landers, and venture to Pioneer Town's Old West movie sets. The flexibility of having your own vehicle means you can chase the perfect sunset spots and return to your accommodation after dark desert photography sessions.
The national park spans both high and low desert ecosystems, featuring the iconic twisted Joshua trees alongside massive boulder formations perfect for climbing. You'll find ample parking at most trailheads, though arriving early helps secure spots during peak seasons. The park's loop roads connect major attractions, making it easy to visit multiple sites in a single day with your rental car.
This naturally sculpted rock formation resembles a giant skull and sits along an easy walking trail accessible by car. The parking area provides convenient access to this popular photo spot and connects to longer hiking trails deeper into the desert landscape. Your vehicle allows you to combine this stop with visits to nearby Jumbo Rocks and Live Oak areas.
This elevated viewpoint offers sweeping views across the Salton Sea and into Mexico on clear days, accessible via a paved road suitable for all vehicle types. The parking area accommodates numerous cars, and the short walk to the viewpoint makes it perfect for visitors of all ages. Having a rental car lets you time your visit for optimal lighting conditions and easily combine it with other scenic drives through the park.
You can reach Joshua Tree by several transportation methods:
• By plane: Fly into Palm Springs International Airport, then drive approximately one hour to reach the area
• By car: Drive from Los Angeles via Interstate 10 and Highway 62, or approach from San Diego through desert highways
• By train: Take Amtrak to Palm Springs station, then arrange ground transportation to complete your journey
Book your rental car early on Turo, especially during cooler months when desert tourism peaks and vehicle availability becomes limited. Choose a car with good ground clearance and air conditioning, as desert conditions can be challenging for both vehicles and passengers. Look for extras like a backup camera for navigating tight parking spots at popular trailheads, all-wheel drive for exploring unpaved areas, and keyless entry to avoid fumbling with hot metal keys in desert heat.
SUVs and trucks provide excellent ground clearance for Joshua Tree's rocky desert roads and sandy washes throughout the national park. Compact cars work well for paved routes around Joshua Tree, while vans offer ample space for camping gear and supplies during extended desert adventures. Four-wheel drive vehicles handle the varied terrain around Yucca Valley and Desert Hot Springs with confidence.
Gas stations are located in Joshua Tree town along Highway 62, with additional fuel stops in nearby Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms. The closest stations to Joshua Tree National Park's west entrance sit in the town of Joshua Tree itself. Stock up on fuel before entering the park, as no gas stations operate within the national park boundaries.
Park Boulevard offers stunning views of iconic Joshua tree forests and massive boulder formations throughout the national park. The drive from Palm Springs through Desert Hot Springs to Joshua Tree showcases dramatic desert landscapes and mountain vistas. Highway 62 connects Joshua Tree to Yucca Valley, providing excellent views of the Mojave Desert's unique terrain.
Carry extra water, snacks, and a full tank of gas when exploring the vast desert areas around Joshua Tree and the national park. Check your car's cooling system and tire pressure before venturing into remote desert regions near Indio or Desert Hot Springs. Plan your route carefully and inform others of your travel plans when driving through Joshua Tree's isolated desert areas.
Joshua Tree National Park features designated parking areas at popular trailheads and viewpoints throughout the park. The town of Joshua Tree offers street parking and small lots near local businesses and restaurants. Parking fills quickly during peak season at popular spots like Skull Rock and Cholla Cactus Garden within the national park.
Drive slowly on unpaved roads around Joshua Tree to avoid damaging your car on loose rocks and sandy surfaces. Keep your headlights on during dawn and dusk when wildlife is most active near Joshua Tree and surrounding desert areas. Watch for sudden weather changes that can create flash flood conditions in desert washes around the national park and Yucca Valley.
