A monthly car rental in Detroit gives you the car you need without the staggering cost of owning one here. Detroit drivers pay roughly $5,687 a year for car insurance alone — the highest in the nation. Add a $770 monthly car payment, parking, and maintenance, and ownership starts to feel like a second rent check. A monthly rental on Turo cuts through all of that with one transparent price and zero long-term commitment.
Whether you're an auto industry contractor arriving for a six-month assignment at GM or Ford, a traveling nurse rotating through Henry Ford Health, a recent Wayne State grad figuring out what comes next, or someone whose lease just ended, car rentals in Detroit on Turo fit the moment you're in. Pick a duration that works, extend if plans shift, and move on when you're ready.
Finding an extended car rental in Detroit on Turo takes just a few minutes — and you can do the whole thing from your phone.

Open the Turo app or website and search for monthly rentals in Detroit. Filter by vehicle type, price, features, and pickup location. Once you find the right car, book it instantly — no phone calls, no paperwork, no waiting.

Pick up your car in Detroit and drive it for 30 days or longer. Many vehicles on Turo come with monthly discounts for bookings of 30+ days, so the longer you stay, the more value you get.

If your plans shift, extend your booking, swap to a different car, or cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before your trip starts. You stay in control.

Was great for us. Great communication, friendly and kind. Willing to work with us when needed. Car does have seat stains that I recommended seat covers for as an option for more professional situations as sadly the seat stains make for a feel of dirtiness unfortunately. I think with some seat covers that are dark, and some change outs of the cigarette burns in the plastic parts even with aftermarket parts, that this car would become a top vehicle rental. At the price it was reasonable for our purposes, wish we could have gotten it a little less, but we needed to secure one faster. We paid $25/day as is. The vehicle did have a previous accident and as we drove it the right side of the bumper slightly dismantled and flapped in the air and hung down under the vehicle. We were only able to find a few buttons and screws that were able to work and secured it temporarily for some time but more are missing. I spent about 4-6 hours fixing it all and it cost me about $18-$25 or so off the top of my head. I think it was priced maybe about $5/day more than Id prefer for the experience I had, but it had the room I wanted for the rental I needed and had 33mpg overall with the mixed driving I had. The car has a weird noise from what seems to be the back tires rumbling as if the tires were sitting for too long in one place so might be worth changing with the company who they were purchased from. Everyone said something negative about the seats, and because they had stains and were white we had to be excessively protective of them where if they were dark, we would not have had to be. Even though it looks good from afar, there are quite a bit of scratches on the paint so it doesnt look as fresh up front and personal, so be aware of that. Great car, just wish it were a bit less and do wish it were a bit nicer "feel" for what we paid, but beats renting at a car rental place by a long shot for the cash savings. I recommend getting something to protect the seats so the "feel" can be less stressful and resolve the little stuff and charge the same rate afterwards and it will give a 5 star experience all around. This is still 5 star to me because Im not a bad rater for first time experiences unless I have issues that were far worse. For the money this was still 4.5 stars so I round it to 5 on that alone. Feel was 3 stars (if you are looking for a clean fresh new car feel) and the owner was a 4.5 stars. If I could advise her to be the best of the best and take it to 5 stars plus, it would be to credit back a weeks worth of cost to offset our experience and the work and time we put in and offer a free airport pickup and drop-off, but it's hard to give up that kind of money when they didnt experience what we did first hand. But thats what I would have recommended. That AND an offer to use the car for our next trip within TWO years (because I doubt we will be back earlier) of at least that amount WITH all the changes above if a credit could NOT be given, but even a bit more as a gift for being such a great caring renter as we spent about $100 on cleaning and repairing the vehicle while we had it. The car rides great if you can bear through the rear tire noise and feel (sounds a little like a helicopter but not as loud as that double rear open windows helicopter sound, and the A/C is great both front and back and dual options for those who need it. Comfortable ride and big open. Space for plenty of luggage, people, groceries, etc. Best and biggest in its specific class that we compared at the price that she had it at. However for $1 more per day we saw a similar barely smaller trunked black seated car and $4 more per day we saw a 4 year newer same model (also with darker seats) although showed with less mpg - this one was said to have more than I experienced it with, but with perfect highway driving and bonuses of the A/C, I may have been able to have achieved 34 mpg, so I can see it possible, but was not my experience amd than extra $1-$4/day may have made the feel and experience all the better - especially without the need to repair, a glossier paint, a smoother quieter ride, all without the stress of worry about the protection of the white seats and the cigarette burned spots. Great for utility, but I do not recommend for a fresh clean exciting feel and experience of a newer rental vehicle immediately as is without the changes. Fix the scratches on the paint, the damage and extra raingaurd/ bumper right side and underneath buttons from the previous front accident, resolve the rear tires noise and feel along with the rest above & I believe it will create 5 star experiences across the board for all new renters in every which way - Barnone. But thats just my Class A advice. Not necessary as long as you are okay with a 4 star overall experience. But the owner was nice so I give her the 5. :) For the people I leave an informed review to help to know what you are getting before you choose as-is, & if there are changes, even better!

Thank you for alowing me to rent from you., car ran good, keep a eye on the oil had to add a quart during the trip.

If you are looking for a good deal. This is it if you are looking for a car with class this is not it. But the car did get me to NYC and back for cheaper than a regular rental would cost.
My experience renting through Turo was outstanding. The host were very professional, responsive, and communicated clearly throughout the entire process. They even accommodated me picking up the vehicle earlier than my scheduled reservation time, which made a huge difference and was greatly appreciated. The car was exceptionally clean, well-maintained, and exactly as described. Everything went smoothly from pickup to drop-off, making for a stress-free rental experience. I highly recommend this host to anyone renting through Turo and would gladly book with them again in the future.

The car was as pictured and the host was great with communication. The pick up location was easy to find, and the link used to locate vehicle at pick up was a plus. I will definitely rent from this host again.

Sorry I check-in in late my phone died but the car was there From 730 thanks I enjoyed my trip

Ali was the best host! He was very accommodating! Thank you so much!!!!

Love this car. I found a fully loaded one 2012, but the seller wanted 4k down on an 11,000 dollar car.

Who is monthly car rental in Detroit for?
Just relocated to Detroit
You just moved for a job at GM, Rocket Companies, or one of Detroit's hospital systems. New city, unfamiliar commute, and you're still getting the lay of the land. A monthly rental gives you reliable wheels from day one while you settle into Midtown or Royal Oak — no pressure to make a $30,000 decision before you've even found your favorite coffee shop. Drive what you need now, and figure out the rest later.
Lease just ended — or just sold your car
You're between cars and not ready to rush into the next one. Maybe you're trading in for something more fuel-efficient given the cost of commuting across metro Detroit, or maybe you're waiting to see if a new job sticks before signing another loan. A monthly rental bridges the gap for as long as you need — extend month to month until you're ready, with no deadline pushing you into a bad deal.
Extended work assignment or traveling professional
Auto industry contractors, traveling nurses at Henry Ford Health or Beaumont, consultants on a three-to-six-month project — you need a car for the duration of the assignment, not forever. Short-term rental rates would eat your per diem alive over that stretch. You can rent a car for a month in Detroit on Turo at rates that are dramatically more competitive for stays of 30 days or longer.
Post-college or first car
You just finished at Wayne State or UM-Dearborn. Your credit history is thin, your budget is tight, and you're not sure whether you're staying in Detroit or heading somewhere else entirely. A monthly rental on Turo lets you drive what you need right now without a loan, a down payment, or a credit check hanging over your next move. Keep it month to month and redirect your money toward what actually matters. It's a car ownership alternative that puts you in control.
If you're arriving at DTW for an extended stay — a work assignment, a relocation, a fresh start — you can arrange a monthly rental pickup near the airport in Romulus. It's roughly 20 miles southwest of downtown, so you'll have wheels before you've even hit the freeway. Book ahead, coordinate pickup details through the app, and skip the rental counter entirely.
Downtown is where the work happens — GM's Renaissance Center, Rocket Companies, Wayne State, Henry Ford Health. If you're living or working in this stretch, a monthly rental saves you from ownership costs that stack up fast in a city where parking alone runs $150 to $300 a month. Get around on your terms without the financial weight of a car you might not keep.
Royal Oak draws young professionals who want easy I-75 access to downtown without living in the thick of it. If you've just moved here, a monthly rental gives you the flexibility to explore the metro, lock in your commute, and figure out whether you even need to buy a car. No rush, no commitment — just the freedom to drive while you settle in.

Detroit is a car city — literally built around the industry — and knowing a few local details before you book a monthly rental here goes a long way.
Filter your search for 30+ day trips to surface the deepest discounts. Compare monthly pricing across listings, book in advance for the widest selection, and look for listings that also offer reduced rates on seven-day and 14-day bookings. The earlier you book, the more options you'll have at the price point you want.
For daily commuting across metro Detroit, prioritize fuel efficiency and comfort. Sedans and compact SUVs handle I-75 and I-94 well and keep gas costs down over a full month. If you're commuting through winter, consider a vehicle with all-wheel drive. Think about cargo needs too, especially if you're shuttling between suburbs.
Michigan left turns take a minute to get used to — you'll make a U-turn at a designated crossover instead of a standard left. I-75, I-94, and I-96 are your main arteries through the metro. Freeway speed limits typically sit at 70 mph. Winter driving runs from December through February with over 40 inches of snowfall annually, so give yourself extra time on cold mornings.
Downtown garage rates run $150 to $300 a month, which is worth factoring into your budget. Residential parking in suburbs like Royal Oak and Ferndale is generally free, making those neighborhoods more wallet-friendly for monthly renters. Street metered parking downtown is available for shorter stays when you need it.
Good news: the Detroit metro area has no major toll roads. Your daily commute on I-75, I-94, or I-96 won't come with surprise charges. The Gordie Howe International Bridge to Canada charges a toll for cross-border trips, but that's not part of the typical commute.
Gas stations are spread throughout the metro, so you won't have trouble filling up regardless of where you're based. If you're considering an EV for your monthly rental, Detroit's charging network is expanding with ChargePoint and EVgo stations, especially around downtown and the GM Renaissance Center area. Charging access is growing steadily across the metro.
You'll find reliable sedans like the Toyota Camry and Honda Civic, fuel-efficient compact SUVs like the Hyundai Tucson, and family-friendly options like the Kia Sorento — all available on Turo from listings across the Detroit metro. For monthly renters, these practical everyday vehicles tend to offer the best value and the lowest per-month pricing.
Whether you want to rent a car for a month in Detroit or stay for several months, rentals on Turo get cheaper the longer you book. Trips of 30 days or more unlock the deepest discounts, and many listings also offer reduced rates for seven-day and 14-day bookings. About 60% of available monthly supply in Detroit is priced under $800 per month, with a median around $1,300 per month. You'll see the total price before you book — no hidden fees, no surprise charges at the end.
Yes. If you need your car for longer than originally planned in Detroit, you can request a trip extension through the Turo app. Your host will review and approve the extension, and you'll see the updated pricing before confirming.
If you want to switch to a different vehicle during your monthly stay in Detroit, you can end your current trip and book a new one. Turo's marketplace means there's always a wide selection of cars available across the Detroit metro area.
You'll need a valid driver's license and to meet Turo's standard booking requirements. No additional paperwork beyond what you'd provide for any Turo trip. You handle everything digitally — no forms to fill out at a counter in Detroit.
A valid US driver's license works. International visitors to Detroit can also book with a valid foreign license in most cases, though some listings may have additional requirements. Check the listing details before booking.
Turo offers multiple protection plan options for every trip booked in Detroit. You can choose your level of coverage when you book. Details are available during the booking process.
Mileage policies vary by listing in Detroit. Many listings set daily mileage allowances, but you can filter for listings that offer unlimited distance — especially useful if you're commuting across the Detroit metro regularly. Look for the "Unlimited distance" filter when browsing.
Absolutely. Trips of 30 days or more in Detroit unlock the deepest discounts, and many listings also offer reduced rates for seven-day and 14-day bookings. The longer you book, the more you save.
The primary guest on a Turo booking in Detroit can add approved additional drivers through the app. All additional drivers must meet Turo's booking requirements.
No. Turo does not require a credit check to book a car in Detroit. You just need a valid driver's license and to meet the standard booking requirements — no hard credit inquiry, no financial scrutiny.
For many people in Detroit — especially those needing a car for one to six months — a monthly rental on Turo can cost significantly less than a traditional lease. Factor in the down payment, monthly payment, insurance (which averages $5,687 a year in Detroit alone), and maintenance that come with leasing, and the total cost of a lease climbs fast. Turo's transparent monthly pricing means you know exactly what you're paying, with no hidden costs stacking up over time.
