Everything about the car and the overall transaction was excellent. Cory was responsive and easy to communicate with, and I appreciated how quickly he addressed any questions or concerns that came up. My only frustration was being asked to handle an oil change during the booking. I had reserved the car for three weeks with a 4,000-mile allowance, but was told it would need an oil change after about 1,000 miles. With a pretty full schedule, it was stressful to try to fit this in, and it took multiple stops along my route to find a shop without a long wait. While Cory did reimburse the cost, I didn’t feel this responsibility should have fallen on the renter — especially for a longer reservation. It would have been much easier if the oil had been serviced prior to the booking so the trip could proceed without interruption. I’m still happy to give a five-star review because the experience overall was positive, but I hope this is something that can be handled ahead of time for future renters.

Whether you're passing through the city on U.S. 97 or looking to reach one of Bend's outskirt attractions, keep a few essential car rental tips in mind to get the most out of your experience.

What are the road rules and driving conditions in Bend?

Driving in Bend means adhering to Oregon's laws and observing posted speed limits, which vary from 15 mph in alleyways to 55 mph on the highway. Other important regulations apply, including the prohibition of U-turns at traffic signals or at intersections in cities.

Road conditions are generally good in Bend, so you won't have to be extra mindful of potholes or cracks along the drive, though traffic can sometimes slow down on the main road, the 97.

What is parking like in Bend?

In Downtown Bend, metered parking rates are quite low, ensuring that you never have to break the bank to cruise through with a rental vehicle. Of course, parking lots and garages are also available, but these fetch a slightly higher price.

Are there toll roads in Bend?

While Oregon does have a few toll bridges, there aren't any toll roads that pass through or around Bend, Oregon. Again, your driving budget doesn't need to be extreme on this visit.

Are there gas stations and EV chargers in Bend?

Running low on fuel in Bend? Not a problem. Many gas stations can be found along U.S. 97, including ARCO, Fred Meyer Fuel, Spage Age, and VP Racing Fuels.

Driving an electric car rental? You can find just as many charging stations throughout the city, including Tesla, ChargePoint, and Electrify America.

Do I need to rent a car in Bend?

Bend is somewhat walkable, featuring many safe sidewalks throughout most neighborhoods, but it is not exceptionally so. Beyond the downtown area and Old Mill District, Bend is people-centered but still benefits greatly from a rental car.
