Whether you're road tripping across the outback, hauling camping gear or moving furniture, nothing beats a Toyota Hilux rental. There's a reason this is one of Australia's best-selling vehicles: the Hilux is a powerful workhorse perfect for navigating both bush and inner city driving with ease.
On Turo, you'll find a wide range of Hilux utes ready to hire for any length of time. Zip around in the sporty Hilux GR Sport or transport heavy loads from A to B behind the wheel of a rugged Hilux Workmate. No matter what your itinerary looks like, you'll find vehicle availability of the Toyota Hilux from local Turo hosts across Australia.

There's a reason why the Toyota Hilux has earned a reputation as a legendary ute. For over 50 years, the Hilux has been the go-to vehicle for tradies and anyone seeking an ultra-reliable truck rental. Expect strength, durability and a tried and tested design that knows how to get the job done.
Searching for a ute with power and performance? The Toyota Hilux delivers on both fronts. Expect up to 165kW of power and 550Nm of torque on the GR Sport, as well as Toyota's legendary towing technology (offering an impressive 3.5-tonne braked towing capacity on 4x4 models).
Hauling a heavy load of cargo? Expect plenty of room, with the Hilux offering generous tray space for all your gear, equipment and even bulky furniture. Travelling with your crew? Look out for the Double-Cab variants that offer room for five, perfect for camping trips with the extended family.
Whether you're venturing to remote parts of Australia, towing a boat for a weekend away, or simply moving house in the inner city, it's hard to beat renting a Toyota Hilux. Practical for everything from road trips to hauling gear from Bunnings, this rugged ute suits all kinds of driving styles and conditions.

Staying safe on the road is what the Hilux does best, thanks to Toyota Safety Sense. Features like Pre-Collision Safety systems alert drivers when a front collision may be likely, even helping to apply the perfect amount of brake pressure to avoid a crash. Plus, expect adaptive cruise control, lane departure alerts and speed sign recognition as standard.
Planning to hit the road and venture off the beaten track? From natural parks to rugged coastal drives, the Hilux SR 4x4, SR5, Rogue and GR Sport models are made for the task, offering rear differential lock, low range 4WD and handy Downhill Assist Control. In short? These features help you avoid locking up on slippery, steep and even rocky downhill roads for a smoother, safer drive.
No matter the job, the Toyota Hilux has you covered. Expect handy Trailer Sway Control and intelligent technology designed to minimise swaying when towing. With a generous tray space to match, you'll be getting all your gear between camp sites, rural properties and worksites without a worry when renting a Hilux.

Is this your first time driving a Hilux? Here are a few handy tips to get you started:
- Give yourself extra space when parking and turning, as a Hilux is much bigger than a standard car
- While the Hilux is responsive (particularly when you opt for automatic transmission), expect a slightly bouncy drive thanks to the vehicle's leaf spring suspension
- When towing or loading up your Hilux, leave extra room when braking
- Practice reversing and parking in an open area and be aware of height restrictions in car parks
The cost of Hilux car rental can vary depending on the model variant, booking length, extras, and delivery. For cheap Hilux rental, look out for potential discounts on longer-duration bookings and early bookings.
While the Hilux does offer impressive cargo capabilities, it's important you secure your cargo before hitting the road. Use the tray's four load-anchorage points to secure goods properly and prevent loose items from flying out during travel.

To rent a car on Turo in Australia, you must create a Turo account, have a valid driver’s license, get approved to drive on Turo, and be 21 years old or older.
When you’re booking your first trip, you’ll go through a quick approval process by entering your driver’s license and some other information. In most cases, you’ll get approved immediately, and you’ll be set for all future road trips, day trips, and business trips!
You must have a valid, full, active, permanent licence to book a car in Australia. A valid licence is one that’s not expired, suspended, or revoked.
If you have a licence issued by a country outside of Australia, Turo requires you to have a valid permanent licence issued by your home country. If your licence is not written in English, you must also have an International Driving Permit or an official English translation of your licence.
The minimum age to rent a vehicle on Turo in Australia is 21 years of age, with all drivers under 25 years old being subjected to an extra charge of $15/day (a.k.a the Young Driver Surcharge). Plus, if you're looking to hire certain vehicle classes, you must be 25 or older to book a Deluxe Class vehicle, and 30 or older to book a Super Deluxe Class vehicle.
You don’t need personal insurance coverage to rent a car on Turo.
When signing the rental agreement, you’ll choose between the Premier (if available), Standard, and Minimum protection plans. Each plan includes varying limits on financial responsibility for damage to a host’s vehicle. All trips include up to $20,000,000 (per event) in legal liability protection. Legal liability protection protects against damage to other people’s property and death or bodily injury (where the legal liability is not covered or capable of being covered by any statutory or compulsory scheme) as a result of an accident involving the vehicle. All protection is provided by Turo Travels Mutual.*
You can get discounts and pay less money for car hire on Turo.
On your Account page, make sure you’ve checked the box to receive email notifications, and enable push notifications from the Turo app in your phone settings — we’ll send you occasional promo codes, discounts, and deals.
Yes, there is — whether you want to rent a car for three days, three months, or even longer, you can on Turo. You’ll find discounted prices on bookings lasting 3+, 7+, or 30+ days, so you can get the best deals and lowest rates possible by booking longer trips.
Some hosts offer unlimited distance for a trip; others set a daily distance limit — you’ll need to check on each rental car individually to see if this service is provided. On the vehicle pages, you’ll see the total miles or kilometres you’re allowed to drive under the heading “Distance included.” You can find cars offering unlimited mileage with every trip by using the “Unlimited distance” filter.
Yes, multiple guests can drive the car you rent on Turo, as long as they are all approved to drive. The primary driver (whoever rented the car) can add additional drivers with no fees or additional charges. Only the primary driver can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do it for you. We encourage you to request to add additional drivers before your trip starts, though guests can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress.
To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. You can request to add drivers via the “Trips” tab in the Turo app without additional driver charges or extra costs.
On Turo, you can't rent a car on your Ps in Australia. To hire a car on Turo, you must have a valid full license - no provisional or conditional licenses are accepted.
* Any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host’s vehicle would kick in before your Turo protection plan, except in limited situations for trips booked in Maryland, but this protects your own wallet. Liability insurance is provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company. Terms, conditions, and exclusions apply. The policy does not provide coverage for damage to a host’s vehicle.
For questions or information about the third party liability insurance that is included in protection plans in the US, consumers in Maryland and the licensed states listed here may contact Turo Insurance Agency at (415) 508-0283 or claims@turo.agency. For questions about how damage to a host’s vehicle is handled, visit the Turo Support site.
When a trip is booked in the state of Washington, physical damage to the host’s vehicle is covered by insurance purchased by Turo, but the Turo insurance does not change the contractual responsibilities of hosts or guests with respect to physical damage to a host’s vehicle.
