Though a little old now, the Subaru Liberty was a pleasure to drive and very easy on fuel. The car was clean and ready to go when I picked it up. MJ was helpful and responsive, and even offered to drive me back home after drop-off. It's great to have a car rental in the inner south of Canberra!

Nice. We enjoyed a lot. Who else can say that they have rode a Lexus convertible. A car was a bit too small for me (near 2metres), with the roof down it was a bit too windy above 80km/h. But dont feel discouraged, the car is great and you will have a lot of fun. Driving wise - everything great

Things to do and places to see in Braddon

Braddon offers excellent car access to Canberra's premier attractions including the Australian War Memorial, Parliament House, and Lake Burley Griffin's scenic foreshore. You can easily drive to the National Gallery of Australia and explore the cultural precinct before heading to Mount Ainslie Lookout for panoramic city views. The area provides convenient parking near Lonsdale Street's bustling dining scene and the trendy Ori Building's rooftop bars. Your rental car gives you the freedom to explore beyond Braddon to nearby Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve or the historic village of Hall at your own pace.

Australian War Memorial and ANZAC Parade

The Australian War Memorial stands as one of the nation's most significant cultural institutions, combining a shrine, museum, and extensive archives. You'll find ample parking available on site, making it easy to spend several hours exploring the comprehensive exhibits and commemorative areas. The drive along ANZAC Parade offers impressive views of the memorial's distinctive dome and the ceremonial avenue lined with national monuments.

Lake Burley Griffin waterfront circuit

Lake Burley Griffin provides a spectacular driving route that circles the entire artificial lake through Canberra's heart. You can stop at multiple points along the circuit including the Captain Cook Memorial Water Jet, National Carillon, and various parks and beaches. The lakeside roads offer excellent parking spots for picnics and the route connects seamlessly to major attractions on both sides of the water.

Mount Ainslie Lookout and surrounding bushland

Mount Ainslie Lookout delivers breathtaking 360-degree views across Canberra and the surrounding Australian Capital Territory landscape. The sealed road winds through native bushland before reaching the summit car park and viewing platform. You'll appreciate having a vehicle to navigate the hill's winding roads and can easily combine this scenic drive with visits to the nearby Australian War Memorial or continue exploring other elevated viewpoints around the capital.

Top tips for renting a convertible in Braddon

Book your convertible car rental early on Turo to secure the best vehicle selection, especially during Canberra's peak spring and autumn seasons when weather conditions are ideal for open-top driving. Look for automatic transmission vehicles if you're unfamiliar with manual gearboxes, and consider extras like keyless entry and backup cameras for easier city parking. Choose a convertible with all-wheel drive if you plan exploring beyond the urban area, and check for pet-friendly options if travelling with animals to Canberra's many dog-welcome parks and outdoor spaces.

Frequently asked questions in Braddon

Why choose a convertible for exploring Braddon's outdoor attractions?

Convertible car hire in Braddon offers an unmatched way to experience the Australian Capital Territory's fresh air and scenic beauty while navigating between outdoor destinations. The open-top driving experience enhances visits to nearby parks and nature reserves, allowing you to fully appreciate the ACT's landscape and pleasant climate. A convertible car rental provides the perfect vehicle for discovering Braddon's surroundings with an added sense of freedom and connection to the outdoors.

How do you operate a convertible roof properly?

Most modern convertible cars feature electronic roof controls located near the handbrake or centre console, requiring the vehicle to be stationary before operation. Press and hold the roof button while ensuring no obstacles are above the car, and the automatic system will handle the folding process completely. Always check your convertible car hire manual for specific instructions, as some Toyota models and other manufacturers may have slightly different operating procedures.

What safety tips should convertible drivers follow in Australian Capital Territory?

Always secure loose items before lowering the roof, as wind can easily carry objects from the vehicle during travel through ACT's open roads. Wear sunscreen and protective eyewear when driving with the top down, particularly during Australia's intense UV conditions. Keep the roof closed during adverse weather and ensure all passengers understand how the automatic roof mechanism works before beginning your convertible car rental journey.

Which scenic routes from Braddon suit convertible road trips best?

The routes leading toward the Brindabella Ranges offer stunning mountain vistas perfect for open-top driving experiences from your hired convertible. Drives through the ACT's rural areas showcase rolling hills and native bushland that are best appreciated with the roof down. Consider exploring the paths around Lake Burley Griffin and nearby nature reserves, where a small convertible provides excellent manoeuvrability and panoramic viewing opportunities.

How should you pack efficiently for a convertible journey?

Pack items in soft bags rather than hard cases, as convertible cars typically have limited boot space and irregular storage areas when the roof mechanism is housed. Secure all belongings in closed compartments or use cargo nets to prevent items from being displaced by wind during your convertible car hire adventure. Bring extra layers and weather protection, as convertible driving conditions can change rapidly throughout your Australian Capital Territory exploration.

What weather factors affect convertible driving in ACT?

Strong winds common in the Australian Capital Territory can make convertible driving challenging, particularly for smaller automatic vehicles that may be more susceptible to crosswinds. Sudden temperature changes and afternoon storms typical of ACT weather require quick roof operation capabilities during your rental car experience. UV exposure is significantly higher in open convertibles, making sun protection essential during Australia's peak daylight hours when exploring Braddon and surrounding areas.
