James B.
Honda Accord 2020

Was great for us. Great communication, friendly and kind. Willing to work with us when needed. Car does have seat stains that I recommended seat covers for as an option for more professional situations as sadly the seat stains make for a feel of dirtiness unfortunately. I think with some seat covers that are dark, and some change outs of the cigarette burns in the plastic parts even with aftermarket parts, that this car would become a top vehicle rental. At the price it was reasonable for our purposes, wish we could have gotten it a little less, but we needed to secure one faster. We paid $25/day as is. The vehicle did have a previous accident and as we drove it the right side of the bumper slightly dismantled and flapped in the air and hung down under the vehicle. We were only able to find a few buttons and screws that were able to work and secured it temporarily for some time but more are missing. I spent about 4-6 hours fixing it all and it cost me about $18-$25 or so off the top of my head. I think it was priced maybe about $5/day more than Id prefer for the experience I had, but it had the room I wanted for the rental I needed and had 33mpg overall with the mixed driving I had. The car has a weird noise from what seems to be the back tires rumbling as if the tires were sitting for too long in one place so might be worth changing with the company who they were purchased from. Everyone said something negative about the seats, and because they had stains and were white we had to be excessively protective of them where if they were dark, we would not have had to be. Even though it looks good from afar, there are quite a bit of scratches on the paint so it doesnt look as fresh up front and personal, so be aware of that. Great car, just wish it were a bit less and do wish it were a bit nicer "feel" for what we paid, but beats renting at a car rental place by a long shot for the cash savings. I recommend getting something to protect the seats so the "feel" can be less stressful and resolve the little stuff and charge the same rate afterwards and it will give a 5 star experience all around. This is still 5 star to me because Im not a bad rater for first time experiences unless I have issues that were far worse. For the money this was still 4.5 stars so I round it to 5 on that alone. Feel was 3 stars (if you are looking for a clean fresh new car feel) and the owner was a 4.5 stars. If I could advise her to be the best of the best and take it to 5 stars plus, it would be to credit back a weeks worth of cost to offset our experience and the work and time we put in and offer a free airport pickup and drop-off, but it's hard to give up that kind of money when they didnt experience what we did first hand. But thats what I would have recommended. That AND an offer to use the car for our next trip within TWO years (because I doubt we will be back earlier) of at least that amount WITH all the changes above if a credit could NOT be given, but even a bit more as a gift for being such a great caring renter as we spent about $100 on cleaning and repairing the vehicle while we had it. The car rides great if you can bear through the rear tire noise and feel (sounds a little like a helicopter but not as loud as that double rear open windows helicopter sound, and the A/C is great both front and back and dual options for those who need it. Comfortable ride and big open. Space for plenty of luggage, people, groceries, etc. Best and biggest in its specific class that we compared at the price that she had it at. However for $1 more per day we saw a similar barely smaller trunked black seated car and $4 more per day we saw a 4 year newer same model (also with darker seats) although showed with less mpg - this one was said to have more than I experienced it with, but with perfect highway driving and bonuses of the A/C, I may have been able to have achieved 34 mpg, so I can see it possible, but was not my experience amd than extra $1-$4/day may have made the feel and experience all the better - especially without the need to repair, a glossier paint, a smoother quieter ride, all without the stress of worry about the protection of the white seats and the cigarette burned spots. Great for utility, but I do not recommend for a fresh clean exciting feel and experience of a newer rental vehicle immediately as is without the changes. Fix the scratches on the paint, the damage and extra raingaurd/ bumper right side and underneath buttons from the previous front accident, resolve the rear tires noise and feel along with the rest above & I believe it will create 5 star experiences across the board for all new renters in every which way - Barnone. But thats just my Class A advice. Not necessary as long as you are okay with a 4 star overall experience. But the owner was nice so I give her the 5. :) For the people I leave an informed review to help to know what you are getting before you choose as-is, & if there are changes, even better!

Whether you’re rolling into town to explore its storied past, taking in a live Motown set, or just want a taste of that famous Coney Dog, Detroit’s sights will keep you cruising. Detroit, Michigan

Henry Ford Museum

This isn’t your average museum — it’s more of a playground for anyone with a pulse. From the car that started it all, the Model T, to the bus where Rosa Parks made history, the Henry Ford Museum packs American history into every square inch. It’s like stepping into a time machine… with air conditioning. Be sure to check out their massive collection of vintage cars, planes, and even presidential limos.

Motown Museum

If Detroit is the Motor City, then Motown is its soundtrack. Step into the modest “Hitsville U.S.A.” house where Berry Gordy launched some of the greatest hits of all time. Sing along (quietly) as you tour Studio A, where Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Diana Ross once belted their classics. For music lovers, this stop isn’t optional — it’s essential.

Detroit Institute of Arts

For an art museum that houses Diego Rivera’s Detroit Industry Murals, plus a jaw-dropping collection of masterpieces spanning centuries, head to the DIA. It's world-class culture in the heart of the city, and one of the best places to “ooh” and “ahh” over works by Van Gogh, Picasso, and Rembrandt, all without leaving the Midwest.

Top tips for renting a car in Detroit

Ready to make Henry Ford and the Dodge Brothers proud? Buckle up, because Detroit has plenty of quirks and personality for drivers to navigate. Here’s what you need to know to make the most of your car rental adventure in Detroit.

What are the road rules and driving conditions in Detroit?

Detroit drivers are known for getting where they need to be quickly, so expect some lively energy on the roads. Michigan’s speed limits vary by location: on freeways, you’re looking at 70 mph, while city streets sit around 25–35 mph. And yes, Detroit drivers have a soft spot for merging at speed. Just remember, right turns on red are allowed unless otherwise posted.

Where can I park in Detroit?

Parking in Detroit is easier than you might think — especially compared to cities of similar size. Downtown, you'll find metered street parking, several parking structures like the one on 1234 Library St, and easy access to surface lots like the one on 525 Shelby St. For on-the-go payment, use the ParkDetroit app, which lets you pay and monitor your parking session right from your phone, freeing you up to explore Motown’s finest.

Are there toll roads in Detroit?

Detroit itself doesn’t have any toll roads (high fives all around), but if you're venturing out to nearby spots like Canada (hello, Windsor!), you’ll encounter tolls at the Ambassador Bridge and Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. Just keep a few bucks handy for these scenic, cross-border drives.

Where are there gas stations and EV chargers in Detroit?

The Motor City isn’t shy about its love for cars, so gas stations are never too hard to find. From every corner downtown to just off the Fisher Fwy & Tuskegee Airmen Mem Hwy, you'll have fuel nearby. EV drivers, rejoice — Detroit’s also invested in its electric future, with a solid network of charging stations across the city, from Detroit Metro Airport to downtown on 1971 Grand River Ave, and even shopping centers like Somerset Collection.

Do I need to rent a car in Detroit?

If you want to explore Detroit at your own pace, renting a car is your best bet. It’s also often the easiest way to see all the city has to offer without relying on public transport. With Turo, you’ll save money while unlocking the city’s hidden gems like a true local, whether you’re spending a day exploring your own city, or planning an extended stay.

How does car rental insurance work on Turo?

No, you don’t need personal insurance coverage to rent a car on Turo.

In the US, any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host’s vehicle would kick in before your Turo protection plan. When booking a car in the US, you’ll choose between three protection plans — Premier (eligibility requirements apply), Standard, or Minimum — to get the level of protection that’s right for you. On each trip, you’re covered with third-party automobile liability insurance provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company.*

In New York state, you’ll also choose between Premier (if available), Standard, or Minimum. With each plan, you’re covered with liability insurance of $1,250,000.* Protection plans for New York trips also include access to roadside assistance, priority phone support, and 24/7 customer assistance.

On the vehicle pages, you’ll see the total miles or kilometres you’re allowed to drive under the heading “Distance included.” You can find cars offering unlimited mileage with every trip by using the “Unlimited distance” filter.

Can other people drive the car that I rented?

Yes, multiple guests can drive the car you rent on Turo, as long as they are all approved to drive. The primary driver (whoever rented the car) can add additional drivers with no fees or additional charges. Only the primary driver can request to add drivers; Turo hosts cannot do it for you. We encourage you to request to add additional drivers before your trip starts, though guests can request to add a driver while a trip is in progress.

To speed up the process, have your additional driver create a Turo account and get approved to drive before you request to add them. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and meet the age requirements for the car you’ve booked. You can request to add drivers via the “Trips” tab in the Turo app without additional driver charges or extra costs.

How much does it cost to rent a car in Detroit?

When you're looking at the costs of car rental, Detroit is quite affordable compared to other cities (and Turo is quite affordable compared to a traditional rental car company). Costs can vary depending on car type, booking length, extras, and delivery. For cheap car rental in Detroit, look out for discounts on longer-duration bookings and early bookings.

What types of cars can I rent on Turo in Detroit?

Whether you’re looking to turn heads or just need something that handles Michigan’s snowy streets, Detroit’s got the rental car types for you. Turo’s Detroit car rental selection includes everything from luxury SUVs and premium rental cars like the Cadillac SRX, to sedans and sports cars like the Chevrolet Corvette.

Want a classic option that screams Detroit? Opt for a Chrysler 300. Need roomy comfort? A Nissan Pathfinder might be for you. Keen on something a bit more rugged? Select a pickup truck like the Ford F-150 for those unpredictable Midwest roads.

* Any personal insurance you may have that covers damage to the host’s vehicle would kick in before your protection plan, except in limited situations for trips booked in Maryland, but this protects your own wallet. In the US, liability insurance is provided under a policy issued to Turo by Travelers Excess and Surplus Lines Company. Terms, conditions, and exclusions apply. The policy does not provide coverage for damage to a host’s vehicle.

For questions or information about the third party liability insurance that is included in protection plans, consumers in Maryland and the licensed states listed here may contact Turo Insurance Agency at (415) 508-0283 or claims@turo.agency. For questions about how damage to a host’s vehicle is handled, visit the Turo Support site.
