I have no complaints.. I enjoyed my trip and the experience

Good. Host was friendly. Rental price was reasonable and affordable

I started this experience wanting to be understanding, but unfortunately that understanding turned into feeling like my patience was being taken advantage of.

Before my August 22 pickup, the host contacted me to say my reserved vehicle was no longer available because of an emergency with the previous renter. I completely understood and accepted the replacement after being assured it would still be ready at my scheduled 10:00 AM pickup.

After paying for a Lyft and arriving with my two small children, I was told the replacement vehicle wasn’t ready after all. We waited over an hour outside in the summer heat.

When the first replacement vehicle was finally brought out, the attendant warned that it “might stink a little” because they hadn’t had time to air it out. I expected a mild cigarette smell, but instead the vehicle smelled overwhelmingly like body odor and used motor oil. It should never have been offered to a customer.

They eventually switched me into a Jeep Compass, but it was also in poor condition. It had worn seat covers, broken air vents, a rear passenger window that didn’t work, no Bluetooth, only one charging outlet, and very basic features. I intentionally booked an economy vehicle because this was only a three-day trip—I wasn’t looking for luxury, just a clean, reliable, and well-maintained vehicle.

While Turo applied a travel credit so I wasn’t charged the higher rate for the replacement vehicle, that simply kept my total at the original booking price. It wasn’t compensation for the delay, inconvenience, or the condition of the vehicles I was offered.

What disappointed me most wasn’t that my original reservation changed—it was how the situation was handled afterward. I accepted the inconvenience from the beginning, yet still experienced a lengthy delay, was offered an unacceptable vehicle, and ultimately received a replacement that was also in poor condition. I left feeling less like a valued customer and more like someone who was expected to accept whatever was available.

One final suggestion is for Turo itself: please clearly identify whether a listing is operated by an individual host or a commercial rental business. Every experience I’ve had with individual hosts has been excellent, and I likely would have chosen a different vehicle had I known this reservation was through a commercial operation. That transparency would help customers make more informed decisions.

2/5 stars. I appreciate the employee who apologized and worked to find another vehicle, but the overall experience fell well below what I expect from a commercial rental operation. I hope both the host and Turo take this feedback as an opportunity to improve.
