2022 Volkswagen Tiguan
Unfortunately, our experience with this rental was disappointing. At pickup, the trunk had a significant amount of dirt and pet hair, which I photographed and reported immediately. We were also required to pay an airport parking fee that had not been disclosed beforehand.
Once we began driving, the brakes squeaked whenever they were applied. On the second day, the check engine light came on and remained on for the rest of our trip. We reported both issues to the host and were told not to worry and that we should be okay to continue driving.
This was especially concerning because the evening before our trip, the host asked us to let them know if we planned to travel outside the metropolitan area so we could review the fluids and tire pressure with them. I explained that this was our first visit to the area and I did not know how far we might travel, and asked that they please ensure the fluids and tire pressure were checked before we picked up the vehicle. They agreed.
On the morning of our return, we were also reminded that the vehicle needed to be returned extremely clean, despite the fact that I had already documented and reported the dirty trunk at pickup. I reminded them of the condition I had already documented at pickup. They initially responded that the interior had been extremely clean and needed to be returned as such, but later advised that they would have the trunk cleaned before the next reservation.
The vehicle got us through our trip, but because of the cleanliness issues, undisclosed parking fee, squeaking brakes, check engine light, concerns about our safety, and how the maintenance issues were handled, I cannot recommend renting from this owner.
