I rented this 2026 Expedition Max specifically for professional/client use, so my expectations may be different from someone simply looking for a large SUV for a family trip. The vehicle itself was in good condition, drove very well, and could be a very nice rental. However, based on my experience, I would not rent it again for anything client-facing.
The exterior was reasonably clean, although there were noticeable water spots and some debris from the trees where it was parked. Nothing serious, and I would have been able to make it presentable with about 10 minutes of detail spray and a microfiber towel, had I not decided I needed to take it to a full service car wash.
The bigger issue was the interior. There was a significant amount of dog hair throughout the rear of the vehicle, as well as sticky food or drink residue on the trim between the front and rear passenger areas with dog hair stuck to it. I ultimately spent $25 at a car wash and approximately 90 minutes cleaning and detailing the interior myself so it would be reasonably presentable for my clients the following day. Fortunately, I picked the vehicle up a day before I actually needed it. To the host's credit, he reimbursed me for the $25 car wash.
There were also a couple of logistical issues that prospective renters should know about. I happened to ask the night before pickup whether I could leave my personal vehicle at the pickup location. I was then informed that parking restrictions are strictly enforced and that my vehicle could be towed, with the suggestion that I take an Uber instead. That is important information that I think should be clearly communicated before someone books.
The vehicle was also provided with somewhere between one-half and three-quarters of a tank of fuel rather than a full tank. When I brought this up, I was told simply to return it at the same level or higher. With a digital fuel gauge that cannot be monitored while fueling, that turns refueling into unnecessary guesswork, and I ultimately returned it with more fuel than I received.
Overall, the Expedition itself was very good. If I were renting it for a family trip, friends, or general transportation, I would consider it. But this appeared to be a personal vehicle that is also rented on Turo rather than a vehicle being maintained to a consistently professional or luxury-rental standard.
For anyone considering it for executive transportation, business clients, weddings, or another presentation-sensitive use, I would not assume that it will be delivered ready for that purpose. Based on my experience, I would plan enough time after pickup to inspect and potentially clean the vehicle before using it.
