The car quality, the location and the host deserve a 5 star. However, the experience with Turo is a 1. I contacted Turo directly before I rented the vehicle to ensure it was fine traveling to Rosarito MX on a family vacation. The Turo agent without hesitation said yes. It was ok and I will be responsible for any damages if any. Then I cancel my previous reservation and went with Turo.
Ohh boy I regret that. Once We crossed the border I get a text message indicating I violated their policy and requesting to return immediately. I contacted Turo and they said first to return the car. Then to wait for the investigator for instructions to return the car. He never called that day. I waited until midnight then I had to drive back to the border to drop off the car and cross back the border walking to find a rental in MX. while I have a to leave my kids alone in the hotel in MX. not to mention it cost me twice as much to rent the last minute car. The risk and hustle of crossing at 3:00am walking.
I could not get a straight answer from Turo. Until next day when the investigator called and saw all my calls and communication that I was not stealing the car. I could probably stay there without all the personal risk and hustle. He just apologized as he saw there was not intended risk. I travel very often and have rented cars before to cross border in Europe, USA-Can-MX and never had issues. A $500 rental end up costing me $1,400 plus unnecessary risk for me or my family just because their staff is not well informed about the policies.
