Great ride and Cathee is super helpful and understanding!

Car locked up… I had parked in front of a business awaiting parking directions and turned the car off, went to turn the car back on to park maybe two minutes later and it wouldn’t start I was informed that this didn’t appear to be the first time this issue occurred. Really unfortunate, it was 9pm so I received no response from Cathee. Turo customer support was a bit of a hassle and a 1hr phone call but the situation seems to be resolved now. Other than that, pickup was a little tricky as I was given a code but not a place to put in the code to receive the key and had to call several times to get in touch with the host for this. I also noticed the car had roaches however this is a common problem In Hawaii so just be cautious with any rental that isn’t professionally exterminated and cleaned frequently.

Very good communication and a slight issue with a car was resolved anticipatively.

Overall an amazing experience

The car was in excellent condition and allowed us to explore much of the big island in air conditioned comfort..

Our host was also lovely and the complimentary chips and salsa Cathy provided us, helped to compensate somewhat for the hassles and stress that we went through with Turo and their (very poor) customer support.

We would recommend this vehicle and host, but as our first experience with Turo, we learned that car rental payment with an Amex Gold card unfortunately does not cover “peer to peer” car rental insurance (as it normally does for free with other more conventional car rentals) so keep in mind that adding Turo’s (multiple) insurance services nearly doubles your rental cost!

In summary the Turo customer support was dismal, and the added insurance costs that using their service required will definitely make us think twice about ever using Turo again; as this experience added a lot of needless stress that no one wants when on vacation.
